50 Enhancements across WDW for the 50th

An "embarrassment of riches"? I'd have a hard time classifying 2 rides in each of 3 new lands as such given how long it will take from start to finish on all of that and how much has been closed in the meantime.

But you didn't get the 2012 revised edition of "The Disney Customer Playbook"

Chapter 1: thank them profusely whether they do something or not...and pay any ransom.
Chapter 2: buy upsells cause they say so
Chapter 3: obsess over parades...the least expensive of things to go ga ga over.

I'd love to see JiI back to the original but with upgraded animatronics to more modern versions.

And also the Dreamfinder and Figment meet and greet coming back

After 15 years of complaints the case can be made on the ledger books that a reconstruction of the now "classic" ride is justified...that pavilion is a wreck and it only serves to make the elimination of wonders of life and innoventions that much more blatant...

...but...they really screwed up that ride...a shoestring budget that involved more mechanical demolition than anything. They would need a longterm, 100 mil plus reinvestment and without moron Bob's ip fetish being served...I don't see it.

You do realize a lot of these ”50 enhancements" are just refurbs of existing attractions right? That is something Disney should do anyways whether there is an anniversary or attendance drops. It's not like it's 50 brand new attractions.

Yeah...but they don't...and nobody questions it with their wallet.

I'll stop talking about this stuff the very MINUTE it changes.

I really want to see this happen, I'm just really doubtful is all.

When I think regular refurb I think the usual draining of Splash and putting some new paint and maybe fixing an animatronic or two. So while I guess these would technically fall under the term refurbishment, it is still a bit more.

Maybe I see the parks management in a more negative light than I thought. When I read the first post the thought 'yeah right' popped immediately into my head. Lots of things you listed could have been plussed or added to even 20 years ago and they never were. I guess I just am not very hopeful they would do that now.

I do understand a 50th anniversary is a big milestone, but that is DL that always goes above and beyond for milestone anniversaries. WDW usually doesn't do much.

I hope my ramblings make sense. It just almost seems too good to be true. All these things many on the boards talk about wanting, like the end scene on COP being updates. Granted, I don't know how much it costs to re-program animatronics to do different movements, but switching out furniture and doing an updated 30 second video game graphic and cutting out the words 'car phone' just seem like very low cost things to me that could have been done a long time ago (if they had any interest in doing it at all).

This is why I think this would be relatively easy to do. They don't have to spend billions they just spend a little money to fix up existing attractions like what you said with CoP. Disney might also include Star Wars land and other new attractions already in the works in this 50 number.

If a milestone was "significant"...in the past...it would warrant a significant ADDITION or two...

Not putting new paint on small world, closing the park at 8, and only selling 20,000 $150 hard ticket events for extra "magic"...

...so yeah, skepticism is warranted until proven otherwise.

What gets me is that they are treating the $125 base tickets like "oh, that's the minimum"...it's not even getting a second thought that there is a responsibility to sell those...

Now it's nothing but stacking.

I think the World Showcase is one of the areas that needs the least work, but if they did do something here I'm curious: would fans prefer them to add 1 or more new IP rides/attractions in the pavilions? Or would people rather get an entire new nation, either in the African outpost area, or one of the other spaces where they could fit one.

Those are both major, expensive propositions...what makes you think either would be on the table?

This reminds me of that promotional year that every week had a "plus" and then it turned out some of the pluses were literally a new soup on a CS menu. I'll believe 50 real plus-ups, on top of the current plans, when I see them...and not just 10 real plus ups and 40 other plus ups where parks people are given $1K to "think of something for this ride - anything!"...

Edit - That was the "Limited Time Magic" year where most were "nothing burgers" at best...

GET OUT OF MY BRAIN!!!

Oh yes, I totally agree some of these things would be easy/relatively cheap to do. I'm just qualifying my hesitation to believe it by saying that if they were really that cheap and easy to do then wouldn't they have been done a while ago.

Haha, I think I just really want to believe they're going to do this but in my heart I don't want to get all excited and be let down.

Personally I'll take the new ride or 2. I would love to see a new pavilion...but there is the possibility that pavilion might be boring.

Take Italy, for example. A very beautiful pavilion, but I never spend any time there, not counting inside the restaurants. I don't care for any of their live entertainment and most of the gift shops are too pricey for me. So, unfortunately, it is usually a pass by or pass through pavilion. Whereas other pavilions I feel there is lots of stuff to do and see.

So I'd rather get a couple new rides (which I feel Epcot desperately needs more rides), than a new pavilion that might be beautiful but not give me a lot to explore.

Yes!! I remember being so excited for limited time magic and waiting for all the promotions to be revealed so I could plan a trip.

I had such high expectations for that promotion because it came on the heals of the Years of a Million Dreams promotions. In that promotion, things actually happened. I never won anything personally but it was an environment where you knew exciting things could and did happen.

The Limited Time Magic was kind of the beginning of my disenfranchisement with Disney trumpeting amazing experiences just to feel disappointment about them later.

well, 2 of the 3 new lands will be experiences unto themselves. If they deliver on the promise of Pandora and Star Wars Land I actually think getting both of those within 2 years or so is pretty dang good and could qualify as an "embarrassment of riches" .... now, if all you care about in those lands is the rides, then yeah, 6 new rides isn't all that to write home about

Fully agree about the "Years of a Millions Dreams" - we only won one thing (we were waiting for Star Tours to start and CMs came in and gave everyone in the simulator the special "could" Mickey ears. It wasn't anything huge but something "extra" that I thought was pretty cool)

@Franzenel I love the idea of updating Philharmagic!

I think it would be tough to do a major change to Kali River Rapids (like Doubling the size) - but maybe add some animatronics or something to make it a bit "more"

There's that pesky elevation problem that keeps arising.....Either have to start higher, finish lower, or have a second lift in the middle......not going to happen.

Animal kingdom lodge Jambo and Kidani.
A New Balance running trail that goes through the safari area and connects the two resorts. They have these trails at a lot of the resorts and I really think they are missing one here.

What they really need is a trail connecting to the park. It's just a little over a mile to the back of pandora. Have a village on the way selling drinks and apps..... I'd stay there all night.

Honestly? Just the fact that this thread is about the idea of changes being implemented for the 50th anniversary and the concept that it's more fun to talk about new things that people would enjoy. I realize that expensive projects are few and far between, but since the concept of improvements to the park was introduced, and these are 2 ideas that have been brought up repeatedly as desirable improvements, but are fundamentally different processes I was curious what the consensus preference would be.

Wouldn't it be great to have the fans vote for their preferred enhancements (or 10)...even if you just made it a contest for one enhancement per park (so you, as Disney, know you can only be stuck with 4 big monetary drains, which you should be on the hook for every year anyway) that the fans get to choose - like "fan month"...THAT would be a good 50th anniversary special...
