5% cash back for Discover card purchases - Get Disney cards at Lowes

I'm not sure if it's the same for everyone, but for me with my Discover card, the current 5% cash back bonus category is Home Improvement stores. I went and purchased $125 of gift cards at the Lowes near my house and the 5% cash back showed up on my statement.

I don't know if all Lowes stores sell gift cards, but mine sells all kinds. I got a $50 Disney gift card for in the park spending, a $50 Marriott gift card to help cover our hotel (Fairfield Inn), and a $25 Shell gift card to pay for gas in our rental car. They also have tons of restaurants, etc. So you could pre-pay for things you would be buying on the trip anyway, and get 5% cash back.

I just wanted to put this out there in case anyone was looking to save some money. I think I saw this a few months ago on the budget board at the WDW DIS boards. or maybe it was here. Now that I have done it and have seen the 5% cash back in my account, I plan to go get some more gift cards! We are doing a 11 day road trip, so there will be plenty of uses for gas cards and restaurant cards. Again, this is for Discover card holders, but check to make sure your current 5% cash back category is Home Improvement.

I use my Target RedCard (the debit one) for purchasing Disney gift cards, which I had read about on DIS, but they recently began offering Southwest gift cards too. I was thinking, "this works great for me!!" and I bought one yesterday. I had some Target cards that they give you when you purchase certain items plus I used my red card, and the $50 SW gc only cost me $27 I do have a SW cc so it was kind of silly to buy that and not a Disney gc but I didn't really think that through until afterward

Thanks for reminding me about this. I have the Discover IT and get this category also.

I plan on cashing in my cash back bonuses for Discover gift cards 2mos prior to trip to use as spending money also(they say it takes 6-8wks for processing/delivery) to help save even more!
