OK, I've been on 2 DCL cruises already, and didn't even know this was POSSIBLE! Jim (my Jim, that is) is a wine geek to the nth degree (a result of our 3 years living in Sonoma County). His specialty is finding really good wines (rated 90+) for under $20. :cool1:

Cool!! :thumbsup2 A skill that is sought after on many levels!! Tell him he needs to share techniques!!

He LOVES to share his skill! He now buys wine for our neighbors. I think his main technique is to find small stores with "under the radar" wines, and then spend time talking with the store owners. They suggest some to him. He picks others on his own.

Now the drinking technique is one I'm sure he'll share with everyone on May 27th!

Some people just have a different list of priorities. I'm not saying anything is wrong with that, but just glad that me and my hubby are on the same page with our priorities. Family comes first. I'll tell you a little story...

Almost 4 years ago a very good friend and fellow union plumber of my DH's was killed on the jobsite. He was 40 years old, 2 young boys and a great wife and family. All gone in an instant. You realize in a hurry your own mortality and things in your life get put into perspective. IT'S JUST A JOB! Now, my DH doesn't hesitate to spend time with family and MAKE time for his kids. Our way of living has also changed. Not saying we live beyond our means, but we live life to it's fullest, hence Carpe Diem (seize the day).

Maria, thank you for sharing that story. How sad! But it does put things in perspective. Jim and I see things the same way too, and I'm glad we do. Even if it means we don't live as high on the hog as we would if I were scrambling up the corporate ladder, I think we'll be better off in the long run.

New here and to cruising? Did you book these ruins thru DCL. We booked the Tulum ones because that is all we saw in book. Can you give me info on this as really don't want to spend all day either but do want to see ruins. Thanks

Debbie - welcome to the thread! I see you got your ticker working too - good job.

DCL does offer a tour to the San Gervasio ruins. Mark and I took it back in '03. It is on the island of Cozumel itself so much easier to get to. The ruins here aren't as big and grand as Tulum, but we thought it was a nice excursion. Not sure why it didn't show up for you on the DCL site. We aren't looking to do anything on Cozumel so didn't check that out on booking day.

Jim have you found out if they will have the Rock Shrimp at the end of May?

If they don't would it make more sense to do something more halfway between Port Canaveral and Daytona?

I'm still working on that.

There really is not much between Daytona and the PC. Mims and Oakhill really don't have much.

Stay tuned for a JB update.

All of this talk of quitting jobs is making me a little jealous. DH keeps reminding me that if I work, we can both retire early. Besides in the next year or so I'll hopefully be cutting back on hours to be home with the kiddos when they get home for school ... no more after-care for them ... that's the plan.

Ang, that was the main reason for my change too. I don't want Erin to have to be in after care when she starts 1st grade in the fall. For one thing, I want her to be able to get involved with activities after school. But for another, after care around here costs almost $1,000 a month . That's not much less than we're paying for her daycare/kindergarten - and it's just for 2 hours a day!!! That's just crazy.

My comment about Jim training Lisa was actually more of a poke. Bartending, anyone? Hey, those jobs are great for grad school! Maybe not med school though.

At least it was not poletending. :guilty:

Jim - well you know the area best so we'll take you word on it. JB's will be fine with or without rock shrimp.

Just tell us when to be there and we will.

Added bonus for anyone coming to the pre-cruise meet. You can have your buttons and navigator that night. Assuming of course that Jim lets us ship the box to his house and he brings the box that night. ;)

Hey, Mary....I noticed that the kids have their DIS id's on your website. Could you add KT and Nick's??

KT is *KT*

Nick is BuckeyeNick

When you have a chance....in fact, wait a bit....maybe more parents will chime in with their kids' screen names so you can change them all at once. :)

THX!

All fixed. I've also updated the spreadsheet so that when we make buttons the buttons will have their screen names on them.

Caleb is hotrodjoe. Now if I could just get him to post a bit on the teen/tween thread...

You have two children so I don't see what the problem is. Just make sure you reinforce the straps on their back packs.

Or, just have it shipped to the boat. That is what I am thinking of this year, it all depends on how many bottles I have to carry.

So glad I don't have to make these decisions!!! :lmao:

Hi DVC Debb, yes, we booked it through Disney. They have the info on the DCL site. It is fairly inexpensive ($49 pp) includes a stop at San Gervasio Ruins, and Playa Mia Beach.

We are also DVC -- where do you own at??

Hi Mary -- I told you that Ashley's screen name was SwimmerGirl. It is actually SwimmerGirl91. Sorry about that. Thanks Mary
