Good news to report on my friend's husband Lars (from her blog)

We are so pleased to report that Lars has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home. We want to clarify, that at this point, his kidneys are removed as he awaits his transplant. He will continue on dialysis three times a week until a possible transplant in September.

Monica - thanks for posting the good news......

Oh... they're on our account too... trying to get into the HDtv thing, including putting up a new DirecTV dish and running the cables and all. Nearly killed my garden by hitting it with weed control products, though it's springing back now. And some overdue closet weeding, more like summer than spring cleaning. ;)

I guess I should start talking to you about my trip in September to Evanston, IL. Possibly we can get together.

I'll send you the info when I get back to the office on Monday. That will give you some time to plan excuses on why you are not available! :rotfl2:

I thought we were going to keep that a family secret and not tell everyone about that. :confused3

Now you all know why I have to be so sweet.....because Sharon is bitter! :rotfl:

Strange - this does not look like Sharon???????:confused3

Mark and Mary, if you need any help making up the excuses, let me know. I've come up with several so I didn't have to meet up with the Pot Sitter. :lmao: :lmao:

All I wanted was a place for her to do her homework rather than wasting the time walking home, only to have me pick her up and drive right back by the school (Yes, I am bitter!!!:rotfl: )

You can send her home with Elizabeth if you'd like... its a shorter walk... only about 1/4 mile.... maybe Elizabeth would actually DO homework in the afternoon if someone else were doing it!!!!:rotfl:

Just getting back from 2 days of meetings in Naples... I couldn't believe the traffic this afternoon... it took me almost 6 hours to get home... mostly thanks to a 35 ft fishing boat 'parked' in the middle of I-75 near Ft. Myers... when I finally inched my way past it, they were using a crane to try to get it out of the road. Arrggh!!!!

I am soooo ready for the kids to go back to school!!!!!! Aug 20 isn't getting here soon enough!!!

My ideal school year would be to start after Labor Day and end by Memorial Day. It could be done easily by eliminating the Teacher Duty Days and the Early Release Wednesdays. In our district the Teachers negotiated to have classes shortened on Wednesdays so they would have time for Prep, Meetings, etc. However, you can't find a Teacher in the Middle School 5 minutes after they dismiss - all gone. The only Teacher I am aware that will allow them to be in his class room prior to school is the Band Teacher (who is AWESOME). Kiki may know of some others, but they are definetly few and far between.

When I had to pick Lisa up from school each day to take her to the gym last year, I asked if she could stay on campus for that early release hour and study in the library or elsewhere. I was told that was not possible. All kids must be off campus immediately following school unless they had a special group meeting (like Band, Dance, etc). All I wanted was a place for her to do her homework rather than wasting the time walking home, only to have me pick her up and drive right back by the school (Yes, I am bitter!!!:rotfl: )
I'm confused. Are you saying they got out early but yet still had to be back at school for the regular "after school" stuff (ie: gym) so she had to leave and then had to come back?
oh I'd be bitter about that too. I'd be like uhuh... homey don't play that. That ain't the way Shelley rolls... :rotfl2: That stinks!

Oh yeah, and TOP with scubamom. :)

No. I think her point is, Lisa would go home. By the time she GOT home, Mrs. Scuba would be picking her up to take her to GYMNASTICS.....and in order to get to gymnastics, they had to drive right by the school. So instead of Lisa using that time productively to do her homework, she was using it to get home, just to be picked right back up. Better? "Homey" doesn't need to get upset. :lmao:

I am probably going to take you up on that. I will let you know for sure once Lisa gets home and we get her schedule next Thursday. Lisa knows that whatever doesn't get done before or during school has to be done in the car. She enjoys reading and talking, so I am sure she would love to get it out of the way. However, she does like to socialize, so . . . .

No, I have to pick her up from school normally at 3:45 so we can drive to her gym in Orlando for practice from 5-9pm each night (she's a gymnast). On early release Wednesdays, she walks home(wasting the hour of early release) and I pick her up and drive her to the gym (which has me driving right by her school).

Thanks Karen, I didn't read far enough to see that you helped me out.

Hey June '08 MINI MEET people!!!

I booked our flights into California today and our Super Shuttle to the port!! :yay:
It's starting to feel real now.

I didn't book the return stuff, because we'll fly into Long Beach, but fly out of Orange County. Going to Long Beach on USAirways, will probably use Southwest to fly home.

Virgil...if you fly into Long Beach, you can share our private Super Shuttle!
Better yet, fly to Phoenix the day before, and fly to California with us!

Oooh, when she said GYM I thought she meant back to the school gym for athletics or cheerleading practice after school or something. LOL

Okay explain again what the early release is FOR? Because I think I didn't understand that part..
(our schools do not do early release but in middle school they can stay after school in the library or in a "tutoring classroom" if they want for about an hour every day after school- after the regular day of school... no early releases though)

:yay: That's got to feel good, Stacey! Wish we were cruising too, but at least we'll be at DLR! :yay:

I thought you all might like to see a picture of Tori & Alicia from our recent trip.

IMG_2073.jpg

Funny how different the mothers and daughters can be! For Diana and myself, the trip was about the cuisine (we did eat well! :rotfl:) and for the girls, it was mostly about looking for "cute" boys!! :rolleyes1

That picture is the first that I've seen Tori since the cruise. WOW...she's really growing up into a beautiful young lady!! Not to say that she wasn't already a pretty girl, but you know what I mean......
And Alicia's red is fading.....

And of course they were looking for cute boys...isn't that what cute girls are supposed to do??

Actually, Laura. I think the cuisine was important to at least ONE of the girls! I like that picture you took of Alicia at California Grill, with two thumbs up over her Snake in the Grass sushi.

And the red really needed to fade. It's a little more uniform in color, though, than it appears in this picture. More strawberry blonde all over, or maybe peach?

The really interesting thing about the "looking for cute boys" part: when they would see a cute boy, they would try really, really hard to pretend they were ignoring him, while stealing glances. The boys were doing the same thing. The Moms of course, didn't care about looking cool, so we watched the whole thing. Made the waits for buses a lot more entertaining.

No problem... I can't WAIT for the kids to go back to school... maybe they'll stop bickering non-stop. They are making me nuts! Ray has been working on an install in Jacksonville for the past 2 weeks, so he hasn't been home with them... which makes them argue even more!

Alicia's hair color looks great in person. :thumbsup2 More than a few people commented on her "beautiful hair" :goodvibes

I like that picture too -- I've been trying to post it, but we can't get it to rotate correctly!

And, yes, the cuisine was very important to BOTH the girls -- I just think the boys were slightly more important! :rotfl:

Here she is, with her Snake in the Grass! :woohoo: Sorry about the red-eye; I have a knack for doing that! :headache:
