Shelley,

How does EEL sound to you?!!! (that's how it sounds to me!!) :lmao:

Stacey took the words out of my mouth. EWWW!
I'm usually one to try anything once but I really do not like sushi or raw fish in general and WEIRD stuff like eels and such..no thanks! I love seafood but not the really weird stuff. LOL

I don't remember how Alicia got started on sushi, but it is her #1 food choice. It was cute, Tori ordered a rainbow roll, and carefully removed all the raw fish pieces from the top. Then she ate most of the rest of the roll, which included raw salmon in the center. I don't think she noticed, she even said it was good! Then she called her Dad to report that she had just eaten sushi for the first time. And she really did!

Hard to believe, but that roll was just the first course. We all followed up with the filet (which was so, so good). Then the lava cake for dessert. I think Alicia was moaning the loudest. The next night we had whole lobster at Narcoosees. I asked the waiter if they could shell it for us in the kitchen, and he said yes, so we ordered it. So good. Laura told you we ate well!

This is the good part about getting the dining plan. The bad part is, way too much good food!

Ah, Alicia and I would get along real good... we'd share the love of good food (and especially desserts!) LOL
Everytime I see a picture of her or she's talked about on here- I always can't help but think about how she was on stage -and at the time I didn't even realize she was YOUR daughter. hahahaha

Not so bad for the school schedule here. Charter school starts Aug. 16, she's done on May 20. We could go to WDW before the crowds! But since we are planning to head to the West Coast next summer, I guess we won't. Next year, her senior year, we might buy annual passes at WDW again. Food & Wine, spring break if it's not the busy Easter weeks, then after school is done. She wants her senior trip to include a visit to the Harry Potter park at Islands of Adventure. Hope it's open by then.

Kevin's youngest son was here this weekend with his family. His little girl is so cute! 3 1/2 is a fun age. Maybe he will post a picture, we went to the zoo today. It was HOT. We will see them tonight for New Mexican food, then they head home.
I think I could handle the early august start if we got out May 20th too! That would be awesome! But for many years we had the first week of Aug thru end of May. Last year was mid august like you said (still school ending last day of May unless the last day was on a weekend) and then this year starting Aug 27th and still ending at the same time. I'm wondering what other holidays they'll cut out. they already cut us down to practically nothing BESIDES the stupid super long Christmas holiday break. I guess we'll lose one (or both?) of the long weekend breaks we had last year. I really wish they'd just shorten the holiday break though...

I broke my toe today! Stacey, I guess I'm like you were ... wearing that non-bendable "shoe" & on crutches. As usual, I was not watching where I was walking & smashed my foot into a chair in the breakfast room. I new immediately that I broke it. I did go to one of those instant med places. Of course all they could do is bandage it up & say stay off of it. It's sort of poking out though. The dr. said that it was possible that I tore a tendon. He said to give it a week & if it doesn't look better then to go to an ortho doc.

On another note, I booked a cruise for my parents today. I got a Clark Howard travel email with a senior rate for a Carnival Cruise out of New Orleans. It was just too good to pass up. Including port fees & taxes, it was $664 for the 2 of them for a 4 night cruise in Sept. They've never cruise before. I didn't do any sort of research ... I know ... . My parents both turn 65 this year so this is our (my sister & my) birthday present to them. I hope it's not too horrible.

Ang

A UTOP ... sorry guys, but I see to need the extra pixe-dust for myself today! Extra pixie dust to everyone else that needs it too.

Oh no! I'm so sorry about your toe. Painful. :(

I'm sure they'll have fun on the cruise- like others said... they don't have disney to compare to. LOL

It's official. Summer is over. :confused3

Yesterday we picked up both Matt and Lisa at MCO. For the first time since May we are all home....that means summer is over and school is about to begin.

The really sad part, it means I'm back to cooking for Matt. :scared1:

Here's a picture of the girls from this morning ... back to school. Ashley is officially now in school too. She started pre-k today. Emily is now in 2nd grade.

Good Monday All --- first, Mary - continued prayers coming your way for your friend and family.

And to catch up with the rest of you who seem to be in over-drive for the pre-school days. SUMMER IS NOT OVER, I still have diving to do.

Home Improvement Projects --- good luck to all who are attempting major construction. We managed to (finally) replace the yellowing ceiling light panels…yuck – boy were they dirty and greasy. And also replaced the blinds in the master bedroom. Ours were recalled a few decades ago and we never got around to it….

“SWIM Mom” I saw this license plate at Church on Sunday and thought of Pam….it was simple, but to the point…

WDW memories – Oh, I am jealous as I have not been to WDW for ages, well at least 6 weeks. We were thinking of heading up next weekend, but it is way to hot. Still, pictures of Tori and Alicia at the CG are tempting. Sushi – yummy.

And the two girls are “very pretty” indeed…..and what, by the way, is wrong with Red Hair? I wish I had the nerve to put a little more red back into mine.

Kiki – land shark beer…I wanna see your truck….Better still, beer and sushi…

And speaking of food and drink, Laura – I see your countdown timer for food and wine. Have you followed the food and wine thread…Those folks are serious. I need a new countdown time…

Angie – Ouchey – what else can I say.

Back to School – Georgia starts early!!!! Summer cannot be over….yet???

I still have diving to do….We stayed at home this weekend to do some gardening - nope, too hot, way to hot. I stayed inside with the cats. Oh well, there is always later.

Take it easy today all!!!!!!!!!

Kiki – land shark beer…I wanna see your truck….Better still, beer and sushi…

The proper beer for sushi isn't Landshark... try either Harbin or Kirin, both Asian beers brewed in the USA by the mothership, in a mutual brewing agreement. (They brew our stuff over there...) Food/beer pairings are as serious as food/wine pairings... gotta have the right combinations!!!!!

Wow have they grown since the cruise! Wow. Time goes so fast.
It's funny, because as much as I really needed the peace and quiet, even sending Jared back on the first day (at age 14!) was kind of sad.

And your poor toe!! I'm going to really be praying for you that it heals up quickly and correctly. Not the least bit of fun when it doesn't. But you have your "youth" on your side!! (as opposed to the much older ME, that is)

I think the cruise for your parents is a great idea. As long as they avoid the party crowds (if there are any) then they'll probably LOVE it.

Hi, Irene! I like your new ticker - makes me hungry! :)

I'm doing 2 Food & Wine trips; not doing many of the paid events - PFTS is getting too expensive. I'm a Food & Wine Pairing kind of gal! ;) I booked the LeCellier pairing for 9/28; and Diana and I booked the Bistro pairing 10/27. You are meeting up with us on Sunday, 10/28 right?!! :yay:

If ONLY I lived closer!  I could do it too.

The family meeting was just as I expected. Jay & I laid out all the "ground rules" for this year....what we expect from each of the kids, including Megan....and they all sit and nod their heads in agreement....but you know darn good and well that they'll just proceed to do whatever makes them happy regardless.
I often wonder if it's even worth the stress it causes me. :confused3
I suppose it is. At least they know that we're staying at least semi- on top of them.

Cute picture Angie, they look so excited! There were be no excitement on this house on Thursday, just lots of frantic running around.

Irene, you can scuba dive more than just the summer, can't you? Kevin has scuba'd in December in Florida. You'll have to ask Jim about that.

And I have 10/28 marked on my calendar, meet with Irene, Sam, Jim, Sharon. And maybe a scuba kid or too. Seems like that's after a race or something, Jim and Matt should be hungry.

No school for another two weeks - Maggie's dance class is starting this afternoon. This year - she's dropped down to one class a week- tap class, her favorite. Because she wants to play lacrosse this year, ballet and jazz had to go... Lacrosse is three nights/week.

We had a good weekend with friends at their beach house rental for the weekend. ah, would be nice to own...I'm sure insurance, if it can be obtained, is pretty pricey...I enjoyed my morning cup of coffee and a book watching the sun rise at 6:30am, listening to the waves.

The girls were excited to have a pod of dolphins swim very close to the shore on Friday afternoon.

Early Saturday a.m. our friend was surf fishing, He mentioned he hooked a small shark...:scared1: Not excited to let the kids swim after that...:sad2:

So Stacey, you tell them everything in one fell swoop rather than nagging all year? Or do you wind up doing both, that's what I would do? We have not had the grade talk yet, that is imminent. I figure we need to remind her as late as possible. Though she has it in her head that the Junior year is the "most important" for grades. Don't know where that came from, an older friend I think. Of course, that did no favors for her Freshman and Sophomore years. She had one nine week report card with straight A's though! That's the one we keep for the insurance company.

Great idea! I may be pessimistic, but I'd probably go one step further and put it in a contract form - signed in blood:thumbsup2

Reminds me of Family Ties episodes of their family meetings, complete with a gavel:rotfl2:

I talked to my brother last night. He and and his wife are taking life one step at a time and are doing ok. He's writing a series of letters to the baby, helping him work through the grieving process.

He told me the story of Mitchell's name, too. He teased my father a few weeks earlier while the kids were visiting, that the baby should be an M name. With all of the M names in our family, he rarely calls us by the right one (Marilyn, Monica, Mariela, Maggie, Mike and Matthew) Maggie came up with the name Mitchell... Brian and Mariela decided they liked the name and planned on calling him Mitchell from that point.

Awww....cute story about the name....but such a shame. I can't even imagine how hard that must be. :flower3:

Nah, we'll still have to be nagging them all the way through....every day, I'm sure. But at least this way, they can't say that they weren't TOLD what we expected of them. Especially since we had them all together and there are witnesses. Of course, they could gang up on us and they could ALL say "You never told us that"....
Such as....if they go over on their cell phone bills, not only do they have to pay the money back, but they lose the phone for a month.....they've been properly warned.

And we HAVE done written contracts with Megan. When she breaks them, she just claims she was "coerced" into signing and that it was done under duress.
:sad2: :sad2: She's had those kind of smart mouth answers since she was in Kindergarten. Like the time I popped her mouth for sticking her tongue out at me, and she said "I wasn't sticking my tongue out at you, I was just tasting the air!".......four years old.....great. I should have known I was in trouble way back then.
