Hi guy's. I will be at WDW for 4th of july 2005. What's the best thing to do on the 4th? Do I go to MK or Epcot? How are the crowds? Any special activities that go on? Any info will be helpful. Thanks in advance

It is one of the busiest days of the year. I would try EPCOT

If you like crowds, I'm talking shoulder to shoulder people, go to Magic Kingdom. They have a fabulous fireworks show, but you don't have to be in the Magic Kingdom to see it. We often have made PS at O'hana for 7 or so, and then watched the fireworks from the boat dock or beach at the Poly. Traffic is absolutely horrible in the hours prior to and after the fireworks. You will not be allowed to park anywhere you are not staying (Contemporary, Poly, etc.)

On a positive note however, the day after, July 5th, the parks are relatively quiet and enjoyable. I was surprised how many people leave right after the 4th.

In my opinion, if you're choosing between MK and Epcot, go to Epcot.

I spent the day at the pool. Early in the evening I headed to MGM to camp out for the fireworks.

Immediately following the MGM fireworks I powerwalked to Epcot to see Illuminations and thier special fireworks.

We've been to WDW for the 4th of July twice. The first year we choice the MK for the fireworks, what a nightmare. Like a previous poster said, shoulder to shoulder. The second trip we decided on Illuminations at Epcot. Illuminations is one of my favorite shows at WDW. The show they put on for the 4th was just spectacular, it took our breath away. ºoº :earsgirl:

DH & I took our only couples DVC trip over the 4th a few years ago, it was great! Like another posted said the crowds on the 4th were huge and the 5th was not so bad. We were able to still see attractions without long waits on the 4th such as PoC, CoP, if I recall Space M was only about 45 minutes. Also they had an e-night that weekend as well (don't know if they do this now with the last resort stays).

you can do both!!!

just be sure to be walking toward the monrail while Illiuniations is going on....

the MK fireworks on 4th aren't until 10:00pm -

we are going this year too!!!

we are spending 2 days at AKL, 2 days at VWL (for the 4th), then 2 days at BCV - crazy.....

both fireworks were great!!!

I am hopping that MK are better this year.

We spent last 4th of July in Disney. Won't be doing that again (lol). Actually we will be at Disney this 4th as well just no where near the parks.
MK was SO crowded. AK was good, moderate amount of park goers.
Epcot was not as busy as MK but a close second. We did spent time at MGM and that was pleasant for the most part, thats where we saw the fireworks. My personal opinion is to steer clear of MK and Epcot that day.
I won't even tell you how long it took us to get back to the parking lot that night.

We were there last year the beginning of July. I'm hoping to go back again this July!!!! We chose to spend the 4th at Discovery Cove (save your pennies and go!!). Only 1000 people are permitted each day. This place is unbelieveable!

airhead("did someone say, "Disney" ?")

The 4th is great, but the MK is something I will NEVER do again - inside MK, I mean. Stood in line til 2:30AM to EXIT the park one year after last fireworks show at midnight. I would do like another poster suggests and make a PS at Ohana or Chef Mickey's or somewhere outside the park to watch the fireworks. Also, Illumninations at EPCOT is fabulous, and the crowds there are much more bearable. Have fun!

Our experiences have been about every other year on the 4th. We have done R&R by the pool once catching fireworks from the bay lake area, inside MGM (they were great) and this year I think we will be in MK. I'm still in the planning mode, but would like to see them from inside the park sometime! I really don't mind the crowds and don't mind busy transportation issues, I just plan for it to be crazy and take it from there!

We'll be there on the 4th too!. For now, our plans are to hit MGM in the morning, rest up at the BW, then hit Epcot in the evening. Looking forward to the fireworks, we'll take the crowds in stride.

Peace,
G4L

We have spent many 4th of Julys at WDW, Our one single tidbit of advice would be...........avoid MK!!!! It has the best fireworks display but is also the most difficult park to navigate on the 4th of July, Epcot is a much better choice for the 4th of July. Been there, done that---many, many times---stick with Epcot.

we are also going to be in wdw for the first time this year. we intended to be in MK but after thinking it out i feel we would be better off in Epcot and seeing illuminations. i know wishes is spectacular on the 4th but i really dont want to start out our trip by dealing with intense crowds that wil surely be there on the 4th. besides can you really make a bad with a choice of epcot and illuminations.

anyone ever do mgm on the 4th

Thanks for all your input everyone. I think Epcot is the way I'm going to go. I think I will call tomorrow to try and get a dinner reservation set up (anywhere) so I can avoid the park during the day but show up for a late dinner and then just stay for the fireworks.

Ditto - Last July 4th I watched the MGM fireworks from just inside the entrance of Disney/MGM Studios and then powerwalked (or should I say powerlimped) over to Epcot to see the most spectacular version of IllumiNations that I have ever witnessed. You can make it to the Epcot fireworks in time even if you don't powerwalk.

We were at WDW last 4th of July.. we spent the day being lazy and enjoying the BCV pool.. then about 5pm, DH and DS#1 went to Epcot while DS#2 and I went to MG to ride RNR. We met at Chef Mickeys for dinner at 7:30.. watched the fireworks from Contempary, then walked to MK.. As everyone was leaving, we stayed until closing at midnight and rode the MTs- space, space and thunder.. plus saw wishes . waited forever to ride astro orbiter. it was a great day, we would do it again..
