40th Birthday Ideas Please

We shall be going to Disneyworld in October this year and it's Dopeys (partner, boyf, etc) 40th while we are away.

I'm looking for great ideas (to pass off as my own and make myself seem supertastic) for things to do in WDW.

Which is the best place for dinner - best view, best food, best atmosphere?
Has anybody managed to get an extra things added - I'm not thinking of a plane skywriting - but say a cake, maybe Eyeore breakdancing, you know the sort of thing.

Does anybody know if I can order personalised gifts and get them delivered to our room (or held in a particular shop that we would 'just happen' to wander in to)?

My DH celebrated his 50th on 4th Jan this year whilst we were in Orlando.

This is how we celebrated:

Morning - Boggy Creek Airboat and Swamp Buggy ride (he knew about this)
Afternoon - Booking for a three hour short game teaching session at the Nick Faldo Golf Institute (surprise)
Evening - Meal at Flying Fish Cafe at Boardwalk (known)
IllumiNations Cruise (surprise)

I did book a cake and champagne to be delivered to the cruise boat but unfortunately it didn't arrive. Will be watching my credit card bill to make sure they did not charge me for it!

It was hard work co-ordinating all the activities from the UK as I wanted everything in place before we left on 16th Dec but it was well worth the effort. Espeically the IllumiNations Cruise, as we wandered up to the boats he even pointed out the one decorated with banners and balloons and said someone must be having a birthday! Yeah, YOU!!!

Captian Ron gave DH a special Year of a Million Dreams certificate to commemorate the cruise and as we were eating ice cream at Beaches and Cream after the cruise, we gave some of our balloons away to a lady who was on a desperate search for some for her 6 yr olds birthday the next day. So a warm and fuzzy feeling to end the special day!

There are so many different ways to celebrate at Disney I'm sure others will be along shortly with their suggestions.

If he's a 'Disney' guy then I would work around his favourite park

A Character breakfast at his favourite park (assuming it's not MGM!)

The day at the park doing his favourite rides utilising FP & getting a Birthday Button to help with the Birthday wishes

ADR at his favourite restaurant wth a birthday cake for dessert

All in all I would try to go with his favourite things so he know's how much thought has gone into it

Gavin likes Disney but neither of us are under any illusions he goes to WDW & DLP for any other reason than he loves me so his idea of a great birthday would be a lie-in and a break from the parks

Park schedules are announced 6 months out so I assume it's the same for MNSSHP & MVMCP

What about a surfing lesson at TL?
or a Balloon ride?
or swimming with dolphin or manattee?
or a secret night at the beach?
or having your illuminations cruise?
Gosh there are loads of things you could do!!!

we were planning on going on the 27th Oct which they are not doing
so no party for us this year

what about a surprize cruise for 3 nights
or a dinner at
Victoria and Albert's Grand Floridian Resort

followed by dinner at downtown disney - loads of choices, then pleasure Island, Party the night away there must be at least one 80's themed club...
or if a more slower pace preferred, Discovery Cove is a day you won't forget, and the cruise in the evening sounds good. We did D.C on our 10th anniversary and it was a lovelly chilled out day, you forgot you was in the middle of Orlando. thoughly recommend it.

We did a year of birthdays (3 trips between Oct 2005 and Sep 2006).

For ds (his 10th birthday) we did a Wishes birthday cruise and got a cake from the Polynesian.

For ds and dh (his 40th birthday) I hired Gifts of a Lifetime. Dh got a Villains Scavenger Hunt through MGM; ds got a Star Wars Scavenger Hunt through MGM during Star Wars weekend. They are a fantastic company and will customize anything for you, not just scavenger hunts. www.giftsofalifetime.com

I ate at the Coral Reef on my 40th birthday and got a personalized menu and a Happy Birthday in chocolate on my dessert.

I also wore a Tigger t-shirt (I think it was a Dis design) that said "Today's my birthday". We were at Epcot and a lovely young CM gave me a free bottle of water! I got to sit in the front of a lot of rides too!

We are off to WDW in 11 days for my DH's 40th. His birthday is on the Tuesday but I have a few surprises lined up for him.

Firstly, on the Monday, he is going parasailing at Sammy Duvall's (courtesy of his Mum and step-Dad - he doesn't know yet but will find out the day before we go)

On the Tuesday (his birthday) I have got the Segway tour booked at Epcot for the morning (he doesn't know about this), followed by some of his favourite rides (mission Space and Soarin'), then lunch at Le Cellier and then over to MGM (his favourite park) for the afternoon and evening (hopefull to see Fantasmic, which we haven't seen before).

I have also got tickets to Cirque du Soleil for later in the week and a meal planned at Raglan Road (which we both really like).

There are so many things you can arrange. I also plan on ordering a cake for him from the Boardwalk Bakery when we arrive but I still need to find out more details about how to do this.

Thanks everybody for these great ideas. I might drop a few heavy hints on some of them for myself when I hit 40 in December (though to be fair I intend hitting it then running very fast in the other direction - I might start wearing heelers and, rather that dancing, I might start 'throwing some shapes' on the floor. I shall also have to play VERY bad rap very loudly on my phone on the the bus. Hey I might become an internatinally renowed hip hop artiste as part of my mid-life crisis).
