40 years from now......Will there be an offer?

By the time that my recently SSR contract is up, I will be into my 80's and probably won't mind it all that much. However, I am sure that, at that point, I wouldn't mind giving my points to my kids and grandkids. I am wondering if DVC will simply take the points back and resell them for a pretty high price or offer us some sort of sweetheart deal to extend them another 30 or 40 years. Part of me thinks that the lure of the cash register will be too great and that they will snap up their points from me and resell them at a premium, but the other part thinks that they will make a very attractive deal with me so that they don't have to go through the trouble of cultivating yet another buyer.

Thoughts?

I think that the OKW offer was a test. I understand that there are several issues to resolve. If it proves successful, you will see similar offers at other resorts.

What was the offer?

OKW was extended 15 years to 2057. The price approved by the board was $25 per point. Those that extended early received a $10 discount, so $15 per point. If you refused, you now have a chance to extend at $20, if you've changed your mind.

However, OKW will then be nearly 65 years old, so to extend it longer than 2057 may be an expensive proposition. Surely the units themselves will be in need of major recontruction by then, I mean, look, some building at the Poly have been nearly rebuilt, with major work needed, and those buildings are only about 35 to 37 years old.

WDW isn't even 37 years old yet. Think of what it looked like (# of parks, # of resorts, etc) in 1971 when it opened. Think about the changes to Disney's corporate structure, mergers, etc since then.

Now try to predict what amount of change will happen in another 40 years?

I know it makes a nice topic for idle conversation but it is obviously something that no one really has any idea about.

My guess is that by that time we'll be staying at the Hannah Montana Villas of Wilderness Lodge! :rotfl2:

My thoughts are that I'll worry about the present and let the future fall as it may. Who knows, there may not even be a WDW as we know it in 40 years. JMO

Thats why SSR works for me. By the time our SSR contract expires I will be ready to kick the bucket and join Walt in the frozen blue yonder. Maybe there can be a new attraction for that in Epcot's Future World.
