40% passholder discount

I managed to 'change' an existing one night reservation at the Contemporary for September and save about $300

Original poster here to report as to why I could not book this morning (and believe me, I tried for hours!): I was told that it is because my AP has not been activated yet. Extremely frustrating! I have to be able to go and activate it to book future AP discounts, and right now it's not safe for everybody to go! Not exactly a "magical" answer for me.

You can book with an AP discount by phone. Show the activated pass after you check in and get to the parks to activate it. I have done this before.

Hmmm 🤔 I have 4 vouchers in MDE and I was able to book the AP deal this morning.

You got some bad / confusing information from a CM. Your specific situation appears to be that you have purchased you AP voucher from a third-party. This is a know issue, did you purchase your AP from a source other than Disney?

Most of the others on the thread that have been successful making an online reservation have an active AP or an AP voucher purchased and linked in MDE that was purchased directly from a Disney source.

Worst case is that you follow @Eastern 's advice and call. Yes it is another crazy day on the phones since they opened up reservations again for 2020 this morning to add to the call volume.

Did you buy direct from Disney? Mine were purchased at Sams. None of the accounts (4) worked. Had To use an account with an activated pass on it.

I just got right through. Zero hold time.

Yes, I bought direct from Disney.

Am I only one really, really bothered by this? Clearly for the near future, and into September even....social distancing is still going to be an issue. Pool and restaurant capacity at resorts, on buses, etc is going to be an issue.

Why over-tax the system? Why increase guests? I mean I know the financial reasons, of course. But...in the current climate, with the current Covid restrictions, it just seems really, really silly.

I don't want to say I may cancel over this, but it's something I'm going to think on really, really hard. Because now I am wondering...really how safe is Disney going to be, if they are increasing guest capacity? How frustrating is it going to be if I have to wait list 4 hours to get into Gasparillas?

Disney likely wouldn't be doing this if it would cause reservations to exceed the restricted capacity they intended. They have probably determined what they want resort capacity to be so that it can be operated safely and also work financially and these discounts are designed to get capacity to that level. I would be surprised if any resort was more than 25% full even with these discounts.

I very much hope you are right. Of course, it would be nice if Disney would come out with the numbers...even if they are just rough numbers so that people can have peace of mind.

I agree. I believe they have calculated how many guests they can have in the parks, and then they hope that all those guests stay on property. Obviously they won’t, but Disney is going to try to fill as many rooms as they can up to that number. Also, I would guess that a lot of the visitors are going to be at least semi-local, and Disney would rather they would pay for a night or two than have them drive to/from home.

I already had a trip booked at a discount rate for late August and this new discount was higher by about $100 than what I already had booked, so I left the booking alone.

Fair, and we will have a better sense once more resorts open with the parks, but I think the fact that entire resorts aren't even opening demonstrates Disney is not expecting high occupancy.

I'm guessing the unused APs will work if purchased direct from Disney. Haven't had this problem before. Hope they fix it.
Not sure why this would matter but it may. Our AP vouchers (purchased through TicketsAtWork) are linked but not activated, and I cannot view the current discount.

This whole thing brings back memories of post 911 when Disney was not a place people wanted to go. People were scared, families were not flying and everyone had a kind of wait and see attitude. I remember taking my kids to the Studios the weekend right after and we were basically the only ones in the park literally...it was my 3 little ones and all the characters to themselves...very strange to say the least. Disney discounted the rooms at the resorts to an incredibly low level and they were still pretty much empty. I think Disney sees that the demand is not there, especially with the lack of overseas travel, so they decided to add discounts and offers to at least increase occupancy. I really don't see the resorts or parks being busy anytime soon, as people are still either afraid to come, or simply don't have the extra money at this point. I am actually looking forward to the lower crowds, because after being a pass holder for the last 25 years, I can say that before all of this, the crowds and prices have been getting out of control.

Anyone can call and get the passholder discounts. You just need to show your activated pass after you check into your resort. You can check in and go to the parks and show it later.
