4 day Wonder -New Years Eve 2007

Howdy and welcome on board - I can appreciate the long answer, I get a little out of breath myself when I begin explaining our upcoming trip. I was also looking for a thread that would give some type of idea about NYE events and how formal or informal the occasion is on ship. I happened on this link that might be of value to you:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread...rid=&highlight=wonder+cruise+nye+new+year+eve

It's also my understanding from several other posts that 3 & 4 night cruises normally do not have a "formal night", but NYE is the exception, so if your DH wants to dress to the nines, tuxes are available for rental.

We have had a van take us to the port--it took about an hour for the ride. My son hates all the waiting at the port and then waiting to get into the room, so we'll probably not leave to go over til about 10 or 10:30. The DCL bus is easy, but I've heard it arrives late at the port.

Thanks for the info, BethA! DH and I will be driving so maybe we will hold off leaving until 9:30 - 10:00. Oh, and we love the BW too!

Also, Welcome Aboard, ltlmaint!! :grouphug:

Thank you all for the warm welcome and the links. I love to read trips reports.

I am also very excited about the potential for a true formal night on the 4-day cruise. The idea of the tux makes things easy for my husband too. It should be so much fun.

Now you've been all planning this for awhile...any concerns about luggage? Any chronic overpackers? The last two times I have been to WDW I have had to switch clothes from one bag to another in order to avoid overage charges at the airport. This trip is going to be the longest yet, I am really panicked. Do any of you repeat cruisers have any tips?

Kim

On our last trip my one bag was 6 pounds over the limit and we ended up paying the extra for them to put a tag on it that said HEAVY---I can never seem to pack light. For the 4 night I don't relish the thought of dragging suits, etc--I wonder if everyone will be dressed up.

Hi Gang,

At the mention of fhtpdw20 I just found out about this thread. I had been planning a Christmas vacation with my family, DH(38), DS(12), DS(10) and myself DW(35) and celebrating with my sister, KT27(28), her DH(35) and DD(10).

We were in the midst of planning ADR's last Friday. We could not decide to do for NYE. We originally planning to stay at VWL from 12/23-12/27 and then switching to SSR from 12/27-1/2.

We were really having a dilemma of what to do NYE that would include everyone, be fun and not trapped in with tens of thousands of people.

I did a google search for ways to celebrate NYE in Orlando. A link came up to allears.net and quoted readers saying how they would best celebrate. One reader suggested there was no better way than on DCL.

So as I read this comment out loud to my sister on the phone, she said "why not". After my inital outburst that she was insane or heavily medicated, I was swayed. We had a paid for a cruise earlier this year and were unable to go. I had scheduled for a future date with no specific cruise in mind. With a little finagling and a patient Sandy at Small World Vacations, we are now joining all of you.

Sorry for my long windedness but I am very excited and am glad to be a part of this thread.

I would also love to hear your thoughts on what we can expect because of NYE. Any ideas on how they normally celebrate?

Thank you!

Kim

Hey SIS!

Just wanted to pop in and say HI:santa:

Yup we are in! Officially booked in a Guranteed Category 7 as of today. Counting the days :)

I'm just bumping to see if anyone had any thoughts on "must sees" in Cocoa Beach :confused3

It’s been awfully quite on this thread for some time now. Has this become a dead thread?

Not sure where everyone is. We have never done anything in the Cocoa Beach area--so I can't help.

Sorry

Just dawned on me that we will be celebrating New Years in five monthes. We are in a "peak" season at work, so getting all the overtime $$ possible. Next on the horizon is back to school. Anybody made any decisions about excursions?? I don't know whether I want to stay on ship in Nassau or book something. Hope everyone is having a safe summer.

So far its been an OK summer, nothing near as hot as last year (11 consecutive days of 100+). This week is “fair week” so it has been a hassle trying to get all of DD’s animals and projects over there and set up and well as getting the camper for DW and DD to stay in at the fairgrounds setup. Well, I guess between the Kennedy Space Museum, playing in the ocean, maybe some miniature golf and a nice dinner, our dance card in Cocoa Beach should be pretty full. As far as excursions go, in Nassau we are doing the Dolphin Encounter Swim in the morning and then a quick self guided tour and a stop by the downtown shops (straw market?). In CC, it looks like the most physically exertive thing we will be doing is snorkeling, but most of the day will be lounging, kind of playing it by ear. Hope everyone else is doing fine – Take care.

Just wanted to let everyone know that my family will be on this cruise. It will be myself (41), DW (39), DS (11) and DD (8). We met a couple of other DIS'ers on a 3 night in July last year. I'm looking forward to being on this one. Hopefully some of us can find a way to meet.

We did door signs for the last one. We had family members without adjoining cabins, so the signs helped the kids find everyone. We were on the boat for the premeir of POTC, so we all stayed up until midnight to see the first showing.

As for the night before, we're staying at the Radisson at the Port. It was a nice way to start the cruise last year. We have family in Florida, so we'll be staying with them as we drive toward the port.

We're doing the dolphin encounter, too. We wanted to do it last year, but it filled up before I could reserve it. Hopefully, the 90 day castaway club timeframe allows us to get in on it this time.

Welcome aboard!

If you’re concerned that the Dolphin Encounter may be booked up before the 90 day window, you can contact them directly to make reservations. This has its ups and downs. The upside is you can book before the 90 days to assure your family a spot and its a little bit less expensive. The down side is that it’s not coordinated through Disney, so you’re on you own in regards to getting to the ferry and back. Also, from what I understand if it’s a Disney booked excursion and you’re running late getting back they will hold the ship for you, otherwise you may be on your own.

Either way, I bet you all are going to have a great time!

Welcome, glad you could join us! I've been reading about the experiences of sharing a dinner table with strangers. Anyone interested in linking up to share a table? We are on the first seating. We have decided to stay onboard in Nassua and do a couples massage.

We got ours, but I didn't look at it--it seemed the same as previous books received.

We received our planning pack in the mail yesterday also. Actually yesterday was a twofer. We got the stuff from Disney and our passports came also :woohoo: . It was a little over 15 weeks to get the passports after submitting the apps. I really am grateful that I will be showing my passport photo only to people that I will, in all probability, never again meet in my lifetime :scared1: .

We got our cruise packet...still waiting for the passport but it hasn't been 10-12 weeks just yet.

Is anyone getting a "room" at Comfort Suites to be able to use the pool at Atlantis?

Not us - our dance card's pretty full in Naussa. Since Boxing Day is on Jan 1, a pretty big holiday from what I understand, does any one know if any of the locals in Nassua do any Pre-Boxing Day celebrating on Dec 31?

My DH & stepdaughter's passports arrived.

DH sent is in the regular way the week of July 4th and it arrived last week. So it took about 8 weeks.

My stepdaughter's was expedited the first week in August and it arrived late last week also.
