Steve-valid question. As you said price is really not a deciding factor....the only consideration is pool heating because we will be there in January. But that's not a huge expense. When posting originally I thought of you and that if anyone would know this answer you would.
My main reason is I have a ds (7) who has Aspergers and some other behavioural issues. I am concerned with having the pool right there, that is all my ds will want to do. When he gets a thought in his head there is no changing it. He would probably be obssessive about the pool, and I would have to be on guard as far as him sneaking out etc. A community pool would give us use of the pool, but not be in his constant sight and act as a constant temptation. The other fear is weather. We have been 5 times in January and have had a full range of weather. There have been days where even with pool heat, the outside temps are to cold for swimming. He would not understand this, his thougths would be this is Florida, there's a pool I must swim.
Now there is the slim possibility the pool would be an advantage because we wouldn't have to deal with starngers and others in a community pool, which is a whole other set of problems.
Sorry for the long winded explanation.......my amazing ds leads a great life bacause I spend hours obssessing over all case scenarios....Thank God for this resource....there are no unknowns!
