4/24/2010 Med cruise: Friends, Romans, Countrymen lend me your Ears

Thanks-I've never planned anything last minute like this and would love to start booking everything-my bags are half packed already!!

Just a reminder that we have room for a couple of people on the Italy tours and would be interested in joining other small groups if there are openings. The tours are outrageous. As much for 1 as I normally spend for all, they want for just one. The only thing that makes sense is to share.

Can we give the porters boxes (not suitcases) to be delivered with our luggage? (if there' not too heavy and have something for the room stewards to utilize)?

Lynne, I'm pretty sure that you can. When we went on our cruise in November, we picked up a case of water on the way and they took it along with our luggage.

I am interested in joining any group tours. My husband has requested that we stay with a group and not go on our own. I have been looking at DCL tours and it will cost us and more than the cruise to do a tour everyday.
Please let me know any info for DIS tours.

Thank you

Correct - no candles. Don't know about the hanging lights. And, as for the irons - we're not allowed to have them in our rooms, but the ones in the laundry rooms are on countdown timers - so even if you leave them on and walk away - they shut off automatically after a few minutes. :thumbsup2 So, they do trust us with hot stuff - just on a very short leash :goodvibes

Does this mean that if I put candles in the FE gift that they will be confiscated or that you just can't light them?

What a difference in the Med FE than the TA. I just finished doing 53 cabins and now my dining room table is covered with plastic bags with room numbers etc.

I will have to clear a space for this group. I must say I am really enjoying it. My husband keeps saying how are we going to get this stuff on the ship.

I know there is quite a difference with the groups on the TA vs the Med cruise. I can't wait to see them though!

SKOI,
I just join this site so I am still learning how to use it. Could you add me to your roll call.
Caderi, DW, DD. All adults, late dining.

We are three adults and would be interested in joining new forming or existing groups taking tours on their own. Do you space for 3 adults? We prefer a group with mostly adults. If you have room could you indicate what places are you planning to visit?

I am just curious about the reason for a two bathroom spoiling your trip. The reason is that we reserve a room with two bathroom so I could use one while my wife could use the other. Am I missing something that I should have taken in consideration?

Very nice explanation. I joined a week ago and have been having problems finding my way around the site and understanding the different acronyms.
Thanks

I think Julie (skoi) is still in Morocco. Just checked her website and saw they have reached Rabat for their volunteer work at the Children's Hospital.

I'll put you on the external website, which can be reached via the http address in my signature box (below).

ST PETERS BASILICA
DRESS CODE

I had heard about a dress code for women, didn't know that it also applied to men:

Dress Code

The Dress Code is strictly enforced at St. Peter's Basilica. No shorts, bare shoulders or miniskirts. This applies to both men and women. Even if you get through security, you will be turned away by the attendants at the door. On a hot summer day, I've seen dozens of men in shorts turned away.

Lynne, I also have read that they can be very strict with the dress code at St. Peter's :)

I'd better telll Malcolm to put away his miniskirt...

Belinda, perhaps Malcolm can wear the mini for some other event? lol :rotfl2:

Hi there, welcome aboard

I think the issue is the two bathrooms are a bit smaller (each one) than the one bathroom - Corinna (dolphingirl47) preferes the larger one bathroom and sharing/taking turns :thumbsup2 (please correct me if I'm wrong ;))

We have only stayed in a Cat 11 before (1 bathroom) and I had no problem, after this cruise we'll have tried both.

Even though the size of the single bathroom is slightly smaller than the combined size of the split bathroom, it is much more spacious. In the split bathroom a lot of space is taken up by the dividing wall and the extra sink. Both parts of the split bathroom are about the size of a closet (and not a big one either). I am Pooh sized and felt incredibly claustrophobic in the split bathroom to the point that I refused to use it and just used the restrooms in the public areas of the ship and the showers in the spa. For a four night cruise, this was perfectly acceptable, but I was not too sure if this would work for 11 nights especially with us being down on deck 1 as well.

No, you are absolutely right. We used to cope with one bathroom at home for many years even if we both had to go to work. So on vacation, sharing really is not an issue.

Yes we have been at St. Peter's and it is enforced and it is advised if you wish to get into the tour. Also no backpacks and they have tight security lines. The dress code is expected in most if not all churchs and holy places in Europe and is a sign of respect towards the sight. Like alot in Europe sometime the rules are enforced and other days...well maybe not. We felt the security was appropriate without being intrusive. The Swiss guards are a great sight and take wonderful pictures.
