Tinkerbell!! I even named my husband's dog after her. I didn't know at the time that he was going to put her in retriever training competitions. It sounds kind of silly when they call out her name amidst names like "Smokin' Crop of Yella" and "Sir Brutus of Avondale." The kids all cheer her on though.

Just realized you said cartoon character. I guess that would be Goofy, then.

Love it!!!
We too are booked through Disney but are def canceling. I bought a book on Rome. I am about 1/3 of the way through and convinced that we will be fine on our own. I am going to start buying all the entrance tickets soon. Ohhhh, getting sooooo excited!

Brooklyn, if you are comfortable w/ it, it's very easy to do Rome on your own from Civitavecchia (we've done it before.) It will involve a lot of train/metro, but you sound like you can handle it! :thumbsup2

What you'll want to do is take a taxi to the train station there and then train into Rome - Termini Station. At Termini, you can jump on the metro to the major sights - the metro has 2 lines that both intersect at Termini. There is a colloseum stop on the metro (on line B) and there is also a stop at the Vatican (on line A) I also believe the main tran from Civitavecchi to Rome has a stop near the Vatican also.

You may already have it, but I highly recommend grabbing a copy of Rick Steves Italy, it will take you through the sights & the transportation transfers. Also, if you buy tickets for the forum+colloseum in Rome, buy them at the Forum entrance b/c the line at the Colloseum is usually longer.

I thought the DIS'ers would appreciate this:
Dr. Dave just bought his wedding ring, and on the inside, it's engraved with our initials plus the phrase: "To Infinity and Beyond!" :)

Adorable!! :cutie:

I currently have a cat 9 cabin on the 2nd floor.
I debating going to a cat 8 cabin.
Right now I know my room number and know I am midship.
If I change to a cat 8 I will not know my room until right before we leave and I will be in the front of the ship. They said there is also a chance of getting an upgrade but I do not want a cabin with a veranda.
Any opinions on what is better????
:confused3

We were on deck 1 last cruise and loved it. I however really like the higher decks too.

If you are willing to spend the money to be higher I would pick the GTY. If you don't like the room they give you you can always try to change it. It is not like with a GTY CAT 12 when you get what you get and that is it. You still have the abitlity to change your room number if there are rooms available (which I don't see being a problem on this empty cruise). You also then have the chance of being upgraded. If I was you I would switch to the CAT 8.

--What's more important to you ... mid-ship, or Category 8? DW and I always book mid-ship (we are also Cat 9, mid-ship). If you get upgraded to a mid-ship with Verandah ... we'd be more than happy to swap with you. That aside, it sounds like you'll probably best best staying where you are currently located. Is there a reason why you would want to move from Cat 9 - midship, and / or opt for the Category 8?

Oh, and Monica...YOU ROCK! :grouphug:  :grouphug:

I think we can take a whole week off without thinking about this trip. (Like that's going to happen). Then I'll start my 'to do' list for shopping/packing/stopping mail/converting $$ etc. etc. etc.

We switched from a 9 to an 8 because, although we really like deck 2, we thought there is a possibility we might get better views of ports and coastline on a higher deck for this special cruise. We love deck 7, so a few weeks ago when a deck 7 Cat 8 opened up, we switched. Of course we may find our side of the ship is always pointed out to sea and we have no view, in which case the higher deck won't make a whit of a difference.

I asked my 5 year old son pirate:to decide if we wanted deck 2 or 5 (while looking at a picture of the ship and pointing to the different levels). He said all he cared about was that he has the pull down bed. :rotfl:

Goofy of course is my favorite character. When I retired from teaching ,the children- (first graders) asked me what I was going to do- I replied that I was going to be Goofy's helper. I had a huge collection of Goofy stuff in my classroom . Having more time to do Disney things is the closest I can get to be be Goofy's helper. You will find me taking pictures with Goofy in all his different outfits.

That is all DD cares about too. If you do not have 4 people staying in the room then you might not want to switch to GTY. Since all staterooms don't have the upper bunk it might be harder to find what you want after room assignments are done.

We have 4, just checking with my mom who is coming with us to make sure she doesn't mind the switch.

--NO, NO, NO! Not all rooms have upper bunks! There are many rooms which only sleep three. I am not sure why they do not have the upper bunk, but would guess it has something to do with wiring, HVAC (something) behind the wall in that spot. -- Oy Vey --- I think I am getting snow-blind. Pardon me ... I will take a Tiger Woods (mea culpa) on this one! Sorry! :confused3

---Ooops, now I have to go look up the different CAT #'s. Are you talking about deck 7, verandah? If so, that is a CAT 5. I forget what CAT the Navigator Verandah's are ... maybe that's what was dster113 was referring to.

The Navigator Verandah's cat is 7 on decks 5, 6 or 7. I tried to upgrade us to a Navigator Verandah room but my TA said there were none left. It's the only verandah I would have done. Maybe for the best it was $2,000 for the upgrade and I don't know if they would have let 3 plus a baby in the room.

Navigator Verandas are Cat 7. Since husband I did a Nav Veranda for our honeymoon we have been spoiled.

And since everyone is talking about where they are going afterwards. DH and I are going to Germany. We are actually getting of the boat on Friday.:scared1: He has always wanted to see Neuschwanstein!:woohoo:
