Kristi,

Do you have the link to this website?

My family would be interested in doing the same tour. However, since we're a group of six on our own with some limited mobility issues with the grandparents and then just having small children, we'll probably just do it as a family. It looks like you have found a good tour company and we would love to find out more. Thanks for doing the research!

Does this sound like a good company to go with for the walk less/see more group? We could pre-book and have the van waiting for us at the pier.

I think the standard tour would be fine, but if others want to see the Moorish Castle, that is cool too.

Happy Goofy - what do you think?
Stlkeeler - what do you think?

Anyone else interested in joining us? I believe the van can hold up to 8 but I'll recheck the website to confirm.

Kristi

April 12, 15, 17, 19 & 22nd, 9:30AM at the Promenade Lounge.

Books will be donated to the crew library at the end of the cruise.

This will also be another chance for DISers to chat and mingle...we won't exclude you if you have a kindle :rotfl2: or if you just want to show up and say hi! :thumbsup2

Count me in to this activity! I've been putting together a pile of books to bring on the trip--small ones that don't take a lot of space. I tend to read quickly so this will be perfect in saving some luggage space!

I could not imagine with 6 of them! :scared1:

I just bought these new space bags that are for hanging clothes. I am going to see how well they work. You are right they don't weight a ton but getting them in there is the killer! Oh yes and shoes!!!! Oh, I am going to have to go to GAP and check out the shoes. Thanks! :thumbsup2

Would love to know how the space bags work. We have used 2 gallon ziplocks with some success but always looking for something new.

You can google the shoes. They come in navy or red. Not really cute but perfect to go with that nautical dressy theme. Hope my girls fit I never even tried them on. We literally roll the dresses up in balls. I know it seems cruel but DCL presses them perfect and I can get them ALL in one suitcase, shoes included. Very scary to look at though.

OK...for my FE's this is what I've decided to do in order to keep track of everything. I'm making one FE package per cabin. Inside it will be some general things for the adults and then a some gender/age specific items for children (if any) in that cabin.

This way I can make sure that I find something fun for folks in all cabins (children and non-children), but also include some things that are just for the kids.

So, I'm starting to buy/sort stuff by cabins now.....

website - gibraltartours.org
I had to use the email for booking to get any information though.

I have a couple of questions. (yes again :goodvibes)

1. When is the cut off date for joining the FE and SM?

2. For the prizes for best door, farthest traveled, etc - do we want these to be fun silly prizes or something kinda "good" (with a $ limit)?

3. For best door, do we want to judge all doors of our group or have those who want to be judged sign up?

Kristi (can you tell I'm a bit obsessive)

Only reason I mentioned wanting to ask before Lynne goes on vacation is that she may:
1. know the answers,
2. want to give input
3. add to website

Anyone can answer my questions.

I finally heard back from a private company that does van tours of Gibraltar. The pricing is based per person rather than a set price. Here is what was sent to me.

Thank you for your email and interest in Gibraltartours.
If so please see information below regarding tours and prices:
The Standard Tour, lasting one and a half hours at a cost of £25 per person, this tour includes visiting Pillars of Hercules, St. Michael’s Cave, the Top of the Rock, the Apes, the Great Siege Tunnels.
The Extended tour, lasting two and a half hours approx, costs £35 per person and includes visiting Pillars of Hercules, St. Michael’s Cave, the Top of the Rock, the Apes, the Great Siege Tunnels and Moorish Castle, we will also drive to the Frontier Area and Europa Point via Camp Bay and Keightley Way Tunnel. At Europa Point there are spectacular views to Africa and from this point you can see three Countries, two Continents, the Atlantic and the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea.
These tours do not involve much walking and as a qualified guide, You will be given a complete historical commentary throughout the duration of the tour. The vehicle used for this tour will be a Volkswagon Caravelle, 8 seater, is fully air-conditioned and would be for your party exclusive. The price is inclusive of all entrance fees.

Rechecked website and the vans do hold up to 8 people. If you want to check them out go to gibraltartours.org

Kristi, this sounds fine. I don't really care about the castle but I'd like to see the "spectacular views" offered on the extended one. But I will go with the majority.

What is everyone doing about euros? Where are you getting them? Anyone buying them before you leave home? Can anyone give me an idea of how much you're bringing? I know this depends on a lot of things but maybe a general idea? I'm not a big shopper-not that much room left in the luggage. But I'd like to get a few little things to bring home. Same as everyone, probably...

1. I know suggestions were made about the cut-off date. March 1 might have been mentioned - that would give 6 weeks preparation time. Anybody joining after that time would be notified that they might receive less gifts and/or could be put in a group with other late joiners (this worked well for my last cruise - there's always somebody who discovers this site when they feel the panic of impending cruise departure).

2. What do you think?

3. I'd go with all doors. You never know what is considered "best" by others' standards.

Is it too late to get a lime green lanyard? Stands out even more than red!<grin>

Fast forward -

Brooklyn - "Mom, I REALLY love this lime green dress for my prom"
Mom - (Thud ):headache:

(Sorry, I know I'm a latecomer, but couldn't resist - we actually LIKED our lime green DIS pins in the past.)

Okay, Ken, now you're really a part of this thread.

That sounds like a great idea!

Any idea if it's an all cabin FE or are you breaking it into smaller groups?

I just did an all cabin total on the first page post. I am just referring to the website to see the groups broken down further, since you had already done that...very helpful. I can always go back and edit it if further breakdowns are wanted. I know that Krisann did a more complete breakdown of the groups on page one of the thread too.

And about the cut off date, March 1 works for me. There will be alot of people joining the cruise later, ask Brooklyn, lol! So I can do sub groups for them like you mentioned earlier. Good idea.

I picked up two of the $6.99 Quartet Dry Erase Board for $1, via Staples website coupon, as mentioned several pages ago. When I got home, I opened one of the dry erase boards, as I was going to use it at home, on the refrigerator. Unfortunately, the magnets did not hold, and the board fell to the ground (made in China).

I called ACCO (the manufacturer) at 800-541-0094 ... was told several batches of board were shipped with inappropriate magnets. They offered to send replacement magnets. I though this information should be posted online - in case anyone else purchased these boards. If you do not try them out in advance, they may not stick to your stateroom door. Worst case scenario, I can add extra magnets to the back.

SNOW UPDATE: It snowed AGAIN in Pennsylvania. Just a dusting this time ... but it's still cold and white. Looks pretty, until it melts and turns to ice.

I found out that you can always reach the website by using the drop-down menu under my screen name - there's a link to personal website (homepage). Neat feature.

OK, thanks! But why do some of your posts have your siggie and some don't? I was under the impression that when you changed your siggie, it changed it on all of your posts. But I've been known to be wrong before...

Responding to your ?? Looks like spellings are ok. I am 55 yo. I have a gty cat 12 cabin and late dining with Dee and katypop. (We would like more to join us. We'd like to get a large group together. PM Dee47 to join us.) I would like the classic logo with Donald running for my nametag.

Have a great vacation!

My siggie - when I am doing a bunch of posts in a row (for which I am known to do, even though I can multi-quote), I tend to leave the siggie off to save space (and declutter the look). But I need to remember to put at least one siggie each day, don't I?

Yes, when you change the contents of your signature box, it changes it anywhere you are posted on the boards.

FISH EXTENDER EXCHANGE

To further clarify my question - If you participate in the FE, will you be giving gifts to all cabins involved or are we breaking it down into smaller groupings?

Lynne -- All of our info is correct on the website, but I wanted to let you know that we prefer the red/black "officially voted on" logo for our lanyards!

Thanks!

Important: The pickpockets in Barcelona are very clever and unscrupulous... the situation seemed worse than in Rome or Paris. :sad2: Please be careful. Just watch your belongings WHEREVER you travel... I cannot stress this enough!! Dr Dave often wears a black, fitted photographer's vest that has lots of interior pockets, and we keep our camera in our pockets whenever we can.
PrincessMonkey

We always wear a money belt in crowded foreign cities. Unfortunately, pickpockets are common & its just better to be safe than sorry. Especially watch out if you view street performers on Las Ramblas in Barcelona, people aren't paying attention so they are great marks.

Like animals, pickpockets have evolved over time and sometimes use complex schemes to get their hands on your $$$ ;)

Here's a great money belt for anyone who is interested:

They also have them that go around the ankle, just do a google search.

My husband and I are doing Seville and the whole day Montserrat. I know Seville is a long ride but it is one city I did want to see.

me too! :goodvibes

Hey everyone, this will be my second Disney cruise and the first trans-Atlantic cruise. It will be me and my roomie and my Soul Pal Mickey. Looking forward to it and hopefully meeting a lot of you DISboard members and maybe doing some activities with you. So say hi and looking forward to April! You can't miss me as I'll probably be the only person with a Pal Mickey and most people say I look like Will Smith.

Welcome! Glad to have you onboard.

Why, lime green and white are the colors for our Disney wedding!
Our lanyards will be a PRECIOUS memory!
;)

You could put them into your wedding scrapbook.....or better yet, use them as wedding favors!!! :rotfl:

I know this depends on a lot of things but maybe a general idea? I'm not a big shopper-not that much room left in the luggage. But I'd like to get a few little things to bring home. Same as everyone, probably...

We always get some Euros before we leave home. We order them from our regular bank (Suntrust) but I know in some areas the banks do not do this, so just call yours to find out.

We usually bring a few hundred with us (we're a party of 2) to begin with and then we use ATM's in Europe when we need to get more currency. I would advise against doing currency exchange in your airport at one of those booths, it is an expensive way to do it.

Even if you're not a big shopper, you'll need Euros for street food, restaurants, taxis, tips, museum/site admission, etc. so it can add up.

Speaking of ATM's in Europe....this is something I always do before I leave the country & I wanted to remind everyone to put it on their to do list:
Call your bank & credit card companies and let them know the dates & countries of your travel. If you don't they may suspect fraudulent activity and cut off your card while you're abroad

Hope everyone is having a great day!!!! :flower3:
