I wanted to address question #2. I would be perfectly happy to just get a little sign stating the name of the award and the name of the group that I could hang on the door. Like a blue ribbon a la county fair competitions. I don't know how the rest of you feel, but I imagine we will have already recieved a TON of gifts on this trip.

What do you think gang?:disrocks:

I was thinking along the same lines - having a certificate with magnets so it could be put on the door. Glad to hear I am not the only one that thinks this.

I also think it would be better to break down the FE cabins - I'm making something and 40+ of these things could kill me. I also like the Feb. 1st cut off date.

Kristi

Just to clarify, are you doing Seville on an excursion or on your own? We are going to take the train, so if/when we figure out the details on that (how long the train is, etc.) we can post the info.

I would love to have this info! I think I would like to do this. I am a more on my own schedule type of person!

I think Karen (16+) and I are also going to take the train into Seville (it's under 2 hrs). Since it's such a long port day, I figured we could get there and back before the sun goes down and the ship leaves (late).

If a bunch of us want to train travel to Seville together, we could meet for breakfast and then head out.

Lynne

Count me in!

And Lynne, I TOTALLY misunderstood your question of the FE. I was thinking you meant smaller groups as in statistics, but now I see that you mean delivery wise. Whatever the group decides is fine with me. All the cruises I did it on have been a total stateroom thing (one being 120 staterooms), so I am not used to the smaller groups way.

So everyone voice your opinion how you want to deliver them. I think 40 is not that big of a number, but I don't know what people will be making/bringing. I just thought doing one for everyone would be more fair. Please give your input everyone.

I would prefer the original date mentioned in the previous thread to complete the Fish Extenders group on February 1st...

Members may need more than 1 month's time to craft gifts for the approx. 45-50 cabins/families that we will have... For example, it can take some time to think of a gift, and time to place an order online. If you're making something from scratch or personalizing the gifts, it can take longer.

After reviewing the FE thread on the main board, some latecomers have difficulty with the task, as much as they want to participate. Secret Mickeys might be an easier objective in a shorter time period? :confused3 Packing gifts and delivering gifts to 50+ cabins could be a daunting situation.

I'm just trying to be realistic for just a sec! Any thoughts?

PrincessMonkey

I actually have always thought the opposite, that it would take longer to prepare for the Secret Mickey since it is multiple, seperate gifts dealing with getting to know a person (generally) instead of just a general FE gift. But I know from this thread that alot are doing things that are much more personalized for the FEs. So I think both might need a bit of time for preparation....

If everyone wants the cut off date for Feb. 1, that is ok too.

Auntlynne, who did your FE? I see it posted on the first page and I think it's cute.

Kristi

I took my fabric to a local woman who does embroidery on a commercial machine. Way too expensive. Wish I had gone with the woman on ebay [gradysmommy has been doing it for several years (I've seen her referenced a bunch - even sdlong329's FE is from there, if I remember all the way to a few weeks ago)]. She can do pretty much any of the Mickey / Minnie head designs - w/crown, pirate bandana, bow... in nearly any material. I just checked on ebay and found her page - it has examples & pictures of the different style heads.

I did my own assembly & sewing. I'd get a new one, but I've only used this one once and it still looks good (and wasn't stolen).

For most people, it's not too early.

I already have Euros, so it's one less thing to worry about.

I think it might be early for someone planning to exchange a very large amount and has yet to track the exchange rates. They might have a bit of homework to do.

Woody

How does one go about tracking the exchange rate? That question seems silly but what I mean is is there any way to track what it has been? I know I can watch what happens in the future. I stopped by the bank today to make inquiries and he told me the rate today is 1.54. Last week it was 1.31 and he said that was the lowest he's seen in a long time. He also said the exchange rate is set by the government. When I said I had been reading about not going to those places in the airport he said they can charge basically anything they want as an exchange fee but the rates should all be the same. I have no reason to doubt him but I don't know for sure.

This sounds amazing Kristi. Our group maybe very interested in this tour (21/2 tour). We are 4 to 11 people possibly. I checked out the website, but didn't see any costs or exact details of each tour. Did you have to request it?

I finally heard back from a private company that does van tours of Gibraltar. The pricing is based per person rather than a set price. Here is what was sent to me.

Thank you for your email and interest in Gibraltartours.
If so please see information below regarding tours and prices:
The Standard Tour, lasting one and a half hours at a cost of £25 per person, this tour includes visiting Pillars of Hercules, St. Michael’s Cave, the Top of the Rock, the Apes, the Great Siege Tunnels.
The Extended tour, lasting two and a half hours approx, costs £35 per person and includes visiting Pillars of Hercules, St. Michael’s Cave, the Top of the Rock, the Apes, the Great Siege Tunnels and Moorish Castle, we will also drive to the Frontier Area and Europa Point via Camp Bay and Keightley Way Tunnel. At Europa Point there are spectacular views to Africa and from this point you can see three Countries, two Continents, the Atlantic and the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea.
These tours do not involve much walking and as a qualified guide, You will be given a complete historical commentary throughout the duration of the tour. The vehicle used for this tour will be a Volkswagon Caravelle, 8 seater, is fully air-conditioned and would be for your party exclusive. The price is inclusive of all entrance fees.

I have a friend who requested 2,000 Euro from B of A. They gave him two 1,000 Euro notes.
:scared1: Eep.

Just as a reference, Rick Steves Spain book is excellent for planning your own excursions in Spain.
If you want to plan your own day in Europe and are unfamiliar with the area, I too recommend trying to find a current Rick Steves' book to get you started. It may not have all of the specific excursion information you need, but you get a full overview of the sights to see and how to see them efficiently.

Yes! I love that idea. I agree that our suitcases will be pretty full with FE items. A blue ribbon magnet for the best doors is PERFECT. :lovestruc
(Or should we make them Lime Green ribbons? :rolleyes1)

Dear Newbies: Lime Green is the unofficial DISboards color (I'm not kidding), however, none of us except Brooklyn want to wear it or display items with that color. Also seriously, our Disney wedding colors are not really lime green and white. :flower3:

I agree 40 cabins is not that big a number either. :cheer2: The FE cabin count has been underway for awhile, however, and the list of cabins already reached 40 a couple of days ago on Lynne's website.

The FE cabin count could increase to 50+ if we keep the list open to March 1st, and that is about an month before we sail. People on the main thread said the FE wasn't fun when they had to do 60-70+ cabins, and that sounds scary to me. That's why I posted the reminder date from our original thread for February 1st.

I've only used this one once and it still looks good (and wasn't stolen).
Stolen FE? I am making our FE, so I guess I shouldn't put too much more time into it? It's almost done, but geez. I read about inappropriate writing on dry erase boards, but do people/teens really take stuff off your stateroom door?

Okay, happy, fun thoughts again!!!

I recommend securing your FE to the fish with a zip tie. They aren't a perfect solution, but making it harder to remove can be a deterant. It is sad that we have to worry about these things at all! :sad2:

I think this is a valid question, I know on my last cruise when the list got really long we broke it into smaller groups, making/buying FE's for 40-50 cabins, finding space to bring them in luggage (and bringing that many home as well), and the time it takes to deliver them may be quite daunting. :confused3

I would suggest that we make a list of people who want to go together to do FE's. I have to say while it was nice not to do any prep really on the PC cruise for FE because we did groups and ordered larger items, I personally already have things for this cruise on their way. So I think if some people want to go together (like we are with the Lanyards) as a FE item - that is great (so I guess I am doing it both ways :) ) let connect those people together but not make it mandatory to be part of a group.

I am not in charge of the FE group (who is?) but I have a few other ideas too I can throw out if no one cares.

just fyi - I should have the quote for lanyards this week. Anyone who stilll wants to help in the cost it is not too late.

Are we considering this a FE gift? If so those wanting to "chip in" can join in the exchange if you want to.

I will post when I get more info.

Krisann

Okay, Ken, now you're really a part of this thread.

Thank you, guys. Sometimes my NYC sense of humor doesn't translate well online. I was a big part of earlier cruise groups (even started our '08 one, but the three-day cruises don't really get the play the longer ones do). This time around, I did join early, but circumstances limited me to mostly lurking. I'm glad I got to jump back in to a rip-roaring enthusiastic bunch!

My vote for certificate/ribbon? ::yes::

PrincessMonkey - wedding colors NOT lime green & white? How are we going to spot you in the World the week before departure?:dance3:

Sorry, MrsGumdrop, it's a sad fact. We made the mistake of having a unique, but not personalized item that disappeared NIGHT ONE!. DW removed EVERYTHING, and posted just a pointed note for the rest of the week. But the INSIDE of our door was cool:rotfl:

Krisann , I'll PM you re: this, but the board says you need to clear some space:)

Hi Krisann, I sent a PM but there's nothing in my sent file. Don't know how I messed that up! :confused3

Anyway, can you please add me to the list to chip in for the lanyards as FE gifts. Only thing is Im Canadian so sending you a cheque would cost you to convert it. I could just give you the UD$ on board if thats acceptable.

Thanks!

Got the quote back from my TA for the med cruise. Not quite as good as I'd hoped (missed the fine print of kids sail free cat 4-11 and we are cat 12) but still an awesome deal. Thought DH would be a tough sell but he is of the opinion, we're already there, air is already paid for, etc etc......."lets do it!"

So, first thing tomorrow morning Im booking the med cruise!

Speaking of...I do want in on the lanyard/nametag fun my the rest of my party will not be playing with us. So that is 4 less you need to order. :)

Also, I tried to PM you, but it seems you are maxed out...
