I'd be curious to know if anyone who booked a SPECIFIC STATEROOM has (now, or in the past) received an upgrade. I recognize GTY's will put you where it works best for the cruise line ... but it's sometimes awkward to see someone who has booked a category less than your own - only for them to receive an upgrade to one above yours.

I understand that feeling, I just try to feel happy for everyone who get's 'dusted'. The times I've booked my solo Cat 11, I've actually not wanted to get upgraded, because I've chosen the location I wanted. I've always been nervous the times I've had to go with a GTY (of any catagory) because I like to know (NOW) where I'll be on the ship.

Over the years of reading about this on the DIS, it does seem that DCL is more inclined to bump and existing Oceanview to a Verandah, than to place an Inside GTY into a Verandah, thus bypassing a whole category of stateroom. And I wonder if they place CM/FL resident/TA/Military staterooms before the 'fire sale' GTB 12's? :confused3

I know we all agree...just being on the this is good!

Have not seen: The hull (not counting the model in the terminal)
Would like to check out: Galley Tour

hhmm, wonder about that myself , the specific cabin# people getting upgraded? I wouldn't think so because if you picked a specific cabin you obviously wanted it right?:confused3 But you make a good point. . .Ohhh, frequent cruisers, where are you? what say you?

Last cruise soooo many of the Dismeet group I was with got upgrade 2 and 3 catagorys (like lots of Cat12's to Cat8's!) over what they chose while we paid the bottom price Cat12 and only ended up in Cat11 but it was all good. We loved our location (Deck 7, aft) soooo, booked Cat11 this time hoping to stay there! We all know the GTY gamble, some win big and the rest of us are just happy to be on the ship!

And I'm guessing for this cruise we're all a little more nervous/excited about cabin assignments since this is a longer trip and it will be our home for two weeks. ::yes::

Was able to see some parts of the ship I hadn't seen before: the lookout for the captain on the side - I think he has a clear look-through spot on the floor [according to a show I saw on the Travel Channel] (you can see the crew standing there)

I forgot exactly where I took this picture, but I managed to take a picture of the lookout spot...

Anybody flying out of LAX have their flight information yet? DCL hasn't sent me the information for my aunt yet.

We're flying out of LAX but they never sent us any information. I called the DCL air travel dept a couple of week ago and they were able to finally email me our itinerary.

Hi All!!
My name is Missy (duh). I was invited to join by (apologizes...I have to check my email).....Stlkeeler. THANX soooo much Stlkeeler I soo needed sumone to share my excitement with!!.
I am not sure if I'm posting the right way, place, time so be gentle please. Plus I am Out of My Mind excited about this so some of it may be gibberish!!! (You all love Disney so I know you can read gibberish!!)
I am new to Disboards (2nd time around actually) but NOT Disney.
I never do ANYTHING last minute and I was looking to spend a few days of April vaca @ Disney and came across this deal. Somehow I am now headed across the Atlantic for 14days with four children my DH and FIL. :rotfl:
My boys are: David 14, Christian 11, Lucas 4 and Josh 1.
If anyone has older boys with facebook pages my sons were asking how to find friends. I have questions though I can't compile them right now.
I am soo happy to have found all of you and I'm starting to read posts.
I am off to supper now but hope to hear from some you soon!!
Nice to meet you all!!

That might make a nice Question of the Day:

For repeat Disney cruisers: What part of the ship have you not seen or spent time in that you would like to check out this time?

For new DCL cruises: What part of the ship are you most interested in seeing?

I plan to actually make it INSIDE the Rainforest Room and enjoy a tile lounger at least once!

.

I would like to do the galley tour and MAYBE spent more than 3 minutes in the gym (during the spa/gym tour) :lmao:

We had hand picked a specific midship category 6 so when i saw our assignment had changed my heart skipped a beat. The new assignment in 4 is also midship so maybe they look where you chose before they upgrade.

Mum had kept her 11 gty even after 12 was released so she would be near us on deck 6. She is now on deck 2 midship but she will have a porthole so that will be nice.

Ok so I am researching being able to use my cell phone at sea...

Here is the info that I got from Sprint. I copied and pasted our "chat session"

Sprint offers wireless roaming service on board the Disney - Magic. Service is available for use when the cruise ship is in international waters, sailing out of range of land-based networks. Cruise ship service is turned down when the ship is in port. All calls placed from the cruise ship are $2.49/minute. I apologize, texting and data is not available while on the cruise ship.

Yikes!! :scared1: That's terrible. Just another reason to stay offline during the cruise.

Also, I mentioned this once or twice before (little response, if any). On other cruise lines, members of CruiseCritic.com have requested a small gathering (mini-mixer) with ship officers / staff during the cruise (at a time and location convenient to the ship's staff, if available). Some cruise lines have sent a hand-full of officers, sometimes with light refreshments ... some even send the captain! I'm not expecting DCL to spend $ or provide anything ... just a chance to mingle, and talk turkey (er, uh, CRUISE, etc).

Your thoughts: IS GOOD - or IS NO GOOD?

Good

Room numbers and upgrades are out there!

Yahoo!!

We are Cat 6 to 4
Mum 11gty to 9

:woohoo:

Yay for you guys!!

Welcome Aboard! You are just in time for the upgrade party! Join right in, have you cruised before? We cruised for first time ever with our 4 kiddos last fall on a great deal. We are alone this time, just DH and I for our 25th wedding celebration.

Make sure you read the first 10 pages or so of this thread lots of info there.

WHOOHOOHOOO!!!:banana::banana::banana::banana:

We got upgraded from a cat 6 to a cat 4!:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

This is the second time we have been upgraded (last time was from a cat 11 to a cat 10:thumbsup2) and both times we have had a specific room number. I'm not sure if my bother got upgraded or not yet.

Here's hoping some pixie dust is coming to all of you! pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

QOTD: I am going to see the inside of the rain forest room for sure this time! I always say that and somehow never get there. With so many sea days I will make it for sure this time!:goodvibes

Steve - I think this is a great idea. Particularly is it involves chocolate....

Celebrity & Royal have official gatherings for Cruise Critic members. I've never been to another on any of the other lines I've sailed. Would be nice though.

Welcome Aboard!have you cruised before?

DH and I for our 25th wedding celebration.

Make sure you read the first 10 pages or so of this thread lots of info there.

Congrats on the Big 25!!

Yes, although we last cruised Carnival on OUR honeymoon 16yrs ago!!

I'm reading reading reading now!! Lots to know!!

I just booked last week...all I see on the Disney Cruise website is GTY 12.
Anyone have any idea when I'll see something more specific??

Before I get too excited - those new room numbers listed on the DCL web page are for real, right? We were in category 10, rooms 2107 and 2109 (connecting rooms). It now says category 10, rooms 7108 and 7110 (connecting rooms). However, those two rooms are category 5, not category 10. I don't want to get myself too excited only to be disappointed if it's a mistake, but I may have to do the happy dance of joy, or risk exploding from excitement.

Is it possible that's right???? That's an AWFUL lot of pixie dust, if it is!! We've never had an upgrade before, so I'm mostly confused by the fact that it's still saying category 10. Maybe if I think happy thoughts, those room numbers will stay put!!

Here's hoping it's right!!!

Weeeeeeeeee:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

Welcome...I'm a newbee too...I will be with my DS 5 (luke) and DD 1 (grace).

Again new to all this but I just checked the disney cruise webiste and my room number has been changed to 8074 from 2110. I was a cat 9 and when I look up the room it looks like it's a cat 4. Could that be right even though on my reservation with my new room number it still says cat 9?

If this is right I'm very excited!
