I read in a Navigator that there are 3D Crystal Portraits exclusive to DCL. They take them outside Studio Sea in the evening. Does anyone know what these are?

You'll get a clear block of crystal that will have a 3D portrait inside (usually a head shot). In other words, you can see face, ears, back of head, etc. I think it's around $40-$50, plus $20 for a revolving base.

our local Walgreens has these on display as on option of what to do with your prints. I don't know what the price range is but you might be able to take a look at one and get at least some idea of what to expect. They look like a pretty unique way to capture an image!

If these I the same thing I saw at Epcot (which I am pretty sure they are) they are VERY COOL !! They take a full 360 degree picture of one or more people and then use a laser to create very very tiny bubbles in a block of crystal (I think it really is a very very hard glass like arcylic) that forms a full 3D picture.

We were going to go back at get one done at Epcot last May but just ran out time.

We may look into during our upcoming cruise.

Hope this helps !!

I can confirm that it is the same as Epcot but quite a bit cheaper! We did one at Epcot in December of just the kids. It was all DH wanted but it was $200, I think. On the cruise we got one of just the two of us (I think 2 is the limit in one crystal) with the DCL logo and I think it was $60 or $70. It comes with a rotating base that lights up.

DD in Palo, rang to say that she and BF have just had these done, and they are FABULOUS! I understand that they are approx $45 or thereabouts, but well worth it. Pretty sure we will get one next visit! Nat:Pinkbounc

These sound really neat! If they only do 2 on a portrait I guess we will get 1 of DD alone, or it would be 3 of us. My mom just bought a rotating base with an up-light for a dolphin crystal that my son and daughter-in-law gave her. It is so pretty displayed that way. I wonder how long it takes to get the portraits? There goes my budget again!

We got our picture taken Monday night (formal night, so my hair was perfect--another advantage over having it taken after a long day at WDW) and picked it up Wednesday.
They really move things along, though, when you want to do things later in the week--we could have even dropped off a photo for Christmas cards on Friday night and had them Saturday morning before we disembarked (although we still can't agree on which photo, so we didn't do that)

This sounds like a wonderful personalized souvenir. I just did a search on the internet so I could get an idea of what they look like, and they look really nice :) I had never heard of this before, I'm so glad sandygirl started this thread! We're definitely interested in getting this done while on our cruise :)

I think this is the website of the company that Disney contracts out to provide them at DL and WDW.

http://www.crystalmagic.com/

I know that the name of the company is Crystal Magic, so I'm assuming that this website is the same company. Don't know for sure if this is the same company as on the cruise.

In any case it gives you an idea. We've got two of our daughter from 2 years ago at WDW (before they sold them at DL) and I'm planning on buying a bunch of the little ornaments for xmas gifts this year.

I also think that Crystal Magic is the same system that WDW and DCL are using (I found thier site yesterday).

BUT the pictures DO NOT do justice to how they actually look. They give a fair idea but they really are much nicer.
