36 days to go and Father-in-Law is very sick :-(

I hope that you get to go on your Holiday, have a magical time, take lots of videos and pictures......nothing will give your Father in Law more joy and peace than seeing his Family so happy :hug:

Clayre, I am so sorry. We were in a similar situation with my dad 8 years ago. I have no pearls of wisdom I'm afraid. Just embrace and treasure the time you all have left together, and try not to regret anything. Oh, and while you are away, don't feel guilty having a good time. I'm sure your F-i-l would want you and your family to enjoy yourselves, and hopefully it will give you all the strength to be there for him and your m-i-l on your return.

So Sorry to hear your news, I was in the same situation 2 years ago in the fact that we were due to go to disney for Hubbys 40th Birthday and my father in law had been very ill for 15 years but had been in hospital for 2 months, we were due to fly on 25th April our 10th Wedding Anniversary but he made me promise we would still go away as he didnt want the 2 children missing out, we learnt when we landed in Sanford that he has passed away during our flight, we felt really bad for agreeing to go but it was his wishes and we respected that, and in totaly honesty I think it made it more bearable / manageable for the children to cope being there, it made Wishes a very emotionable event aswell, after we went home we promised to go again one day and true to our word we have saved again and are going again for my 40th in May 2011, so please do what your heart tells you, I wanted to cancel there and then but my father in law made the last decision ... Hope you enjoy what time you have left with your fther in law too.

We went through similar thing when my mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer. When we were told she didn't want to know what had been said, and we never spoke about that side of it through til the end, but spent each moment we could making happy memories and doing things that made my mum happy.

I was supposed to go on holiday at the time, but my mum was given 5 weeks and so I cancelled, which upset my mum as it made things a bit more real for her, and she was upset as she felt she was effecting our lives.

There is no right and wrong way to deal with a situation like this as every-one is so different, but as has been metioned already I'm sure it woul make your Father in Law so happy to think of, and to see all of the lovely things that you did.

My love and prayers go out to you and your family at this difficult time, and hope that the next few months are as happy and peacful as is possible for you father in law

I agree, there's no easy answer. We've been through this with my late father-in-law :hug:

(a lovely man) who insisted we carried on with our holiday plans regardless. In the end he passed away inbetween holidays so we didn't have to make any decisions in what is already a painful time for everyone.
