So we've been planning this trip for over a year, we have paid our WDW balance and had the flight booked for a while and now we've just had the most awful news that my father-in-laws cancer has come back after being clear for 16 months.

My husband and sister-in-law are devastated as the doctors have said there nothing they can do. It's spread aggressively into his liver and back since his last check up 12 weeks ago. We're just waiting to find out whether he had weeks or months to live.

I feel very selfish and guilty for saying this but I so hope we don't have to cancel as we going for my little boys birthday. At the same time I would feel terrible if something happened while we're away.

Just hoping that there's a glimmer of hope in such a horrible situation :sad1:

I have no words of wisdom but just wanted to send some much needed hugs and thoughts your way!

So sorry to hear about your father in law's cancer has returned. I don't know what to say about the postition you now find yourself in . :grouphug:

I'm sorry to hear this. :guilty:

My friend's father died whilst we were away last year, quite suddenly (he had cancer, which was terminal but was due to go home the next day and had been told he would have 12 months), I know it was really tough on her and Disney felt like the worst place we could be. We were in Busch Gardens at the time and paid $200 getting back to Orlando to call our insurance and reps to get us home. In the end, Virgin were great and we waited three days to get a flight home but they called everyday to let us know the progress.
I would talk to your travel agents, and doctors and think about delaying your trip.
I wish we had, if only so my friend had more time with her father.

Sorry to hear the terrible news, I don't have any words or wisdom either, just hope you all stay strong and cherish the time with your F-I-L

Thank-you so much everyone for your kind words. We're hoping to know more tomorrow and i'll just have to see what my husband and sister in law want to do.

Sorry to hear your sad news. Best wishes to all of your family and best of luck for today.

So sorry to hear your news Clayre. Will be thinking of you all today.

So sorry to hear your news.

My mum died very suddenly in January of a Haemorhagic stroke at the age of 59 and I was devastated - to the point I'm now having councelling. I go to Orlando in 3 weeks time with my sister & her family and we're using this time to build bridges and celebrate mum's life. This is the 1st time I've gone for more than 2 weeks and have been planning it for over a year now. Its going to be a sad time for my sister and I as its the worst year of our lives so far, but we're hoping this holiday will make up for things.

Here's sending you a hug :grouphug:

Well we had further results through yesterday and they are giving an estimate of 3 to 5 months. It's such a strange feeling knowing when some-one might pass away. On one hand there will be no last regrets of not getting to say the things you want to but at the same time it's hard to be upbeat and not to be sad. My father in law chose not to know and who can blame him.

My husband and sister in law have said they still want to travel and as disappointing as it would be to cancel our trip it makes me a little nervous knowing if thing suddenly deteriorate we'll be so far away.

Let's hope time will be kind.

Thinking of you. I keep checking your thread but haven't posted because I just don't know what to say.

One day at a time.

Thoughts with you all, it must be extremely tough on you all at the moment.

More hugs
