I got a PIN for 35% off of a value! Trying to get my brain to do the math and figure out what is better the kids play free offer (for 2 kiddos) or the 35% off!

I signed up for a new account at Disney.com, searched and saved a vacations and voila a PIN arrives in my inbox!!!! :wizard:

I received the 35% off offer also. I have 2 kids in the age range for the free tickets too.

Here is what I did:

May 6th arrive and checked in for 3 nights with 10 day tickets.
Room only reservation starting May 9th checking out on the 15th with the 35%off.

We are staying at the same resort and linked the reservations to stay in the same room. I saved so much money that we decided to fly! The only issue really is that the room only reservation does not allow us to do the dining plan(unless we bought 1 day tickets). We do have the dining plan for the 3 nights(just because).

Now the cm at the reservation center told me that we would be able to get the 4 day tickets on our reservation and upgrade our tickets when we arrived but when they made the reservation and tried adding the 10 day tickets it let him and he did it. So my confirmations(email and paper mail) say 10 day tickets for all 4 of us. SO as far as I can tell it gave the kids free 10 day tickets on the 3 night reservation(since we purchased 10 day tickets).

I hope that all made sense. I saved a bundle!!!

Thats an interesting idea... so you do the split stay. Stay part 1 is on kids stay/play. You get the 2 kids tickets free, at least for 3 days. and then you put the rest of your stay on the room only discount. Then you get the 35% off, but only on the remaining days.

Once you are in the park and activate you tickets you go to a guest services location and add the xtra days to your tickets, only paying the difference. Since the park ticket prices are front loaded, you got a huge portion of the overall ticket price free via the promotion.

Might work... in my math it was less than a $100 savings on a a reservation at a value resort with a 7 night stay and 2 kids tickets. The savings would be greater at Moderate and/or a longer stay. Once you hit Deluxe it would be better with the room % all the way through.

Of course it is complex to book, the savings are marginal, and you would not be able to have a dining plan on the % off portion of the stay.

Exactly. We were not planning the dining plan so it was not a huge deal. Since it is only 3 nights we decided to add the plan because we will get the mugs and 24 snacks. THe whole week of the dining plan would be to much food for us. So we will load up on snacks after we arrive!

And as for the tickets, at this moment it looks like we all go 10 day tickets on our current reservation so no need to go upgrade, although I am not sure the guy was supposed to do it. :)

And we are staying 9 nights ;) I was referring to overall savings....so both discounts, the kids tickets and the room discount. ;)

Awesome!

More savings! Love it. I don't think people realize you can add days to the tickets and it isn't much more $$$ at all.

I'm not sure what you meant here....whether she is only saving $100 over A. all seven days on Kids Free or B. all 7 days on 35% off. I am guessing A, but either way she is saving more than $100. With A she saves around $400 and with B she saves around $200. $200 isn't an amazing amount, but double your estimation and enough to buy food for few days or add on PH.

As you said, doing a mod or deluxe for the 2nd part will boost the savings, which is why we are things about going deluxe :yay: !

I have been pricing the same type of split stay online and am able to the same thing myself online (upgrade our tix to 10-days on our 3 night Kids Free reservation, without paying extra for the kids to upgrade from 3 days to 10 days.) I would think that Disney would make it impossible to book like that if they did not intend for us to be able to do it. So, YAY for free upgrades :cool1:

wow! 35% off values, that is great! did they give you a % off of mods and deluxe with that code? may i ask what the dates were? i'm hoping for a july discount!

Okay, I consider myself to be a fairly intelligent person. However, I don't understand how you guys figure up which discount works best for your family. :confused3 I do realize that different discounts work best for different people. So, could someone simply explain to me how you figure that out? Are you just looking at the standard pricing on the WDW site and then calculating percentages off of that? HELP! Thanks and sorry if this is a repetitive question (I'm sure it has been asked a hundred times). :flower3:

I price it out on the Disney website (using the Special Offers link or a link in my PIN e-mail) and then work it all out so that we are getting the biggest bang for our buck. I love pricing out vacations, so I may price it out several ways and run the numbers a few times before I make a final decision.

Something to distract me from my real work :rolleyes1

are you sure you were not charged the upgraded price for the kids' tickets? it would not have been a huge amount of money (i priced it for our family and for 4A/1C the diff in a 4 to 10 day base ticket is $160) but every time i tried to do it (and i checked actual ticket prices on the website "ticket only" section) i was paying for the children's upgrade...

however, even paying for it, it still makes sense if you need ten day tickets!

I guess it is possible. I got the same price online with us having 10 day tickets as what he gave me as a total. You know they tell you all kinds of things that turn out to be not exactly the case. Either way, it will all be paid when we arrive!
