2nd contract thought exercise

150 won’t go far with 1bd at a standalone resort. So, if split stays are not an option then IMO buy more AKL to secure a 1bd at your home resort and then waitlist BCV and BWV 1bd at 7m on the dot.
This is a good point. I don’t mind stalking availability elsewhere, but I do like to be able to confirm my full stay first and THEN play with the options.

I think you'll find that on the morning your 7 month window opens and you modify that 1 bedroom reservation, the world will be your oyster. I don't see that changing any time soon since 1 bedroom villas are "the worst deal" in DVC.

I dont think any resort fully fits all your wishes. BCV and BWV would have been perfect if you could convince him to buy a 2042.

If split stays are a no, id go with blt, you can take the monorail to epcot and the rooms without views point chart are reasonable. If you can convince him to own a 2042, bwv and bcv check all your boxes. Id love either of these two for resort stays and they have low point charts and longer stays.
Agree with this! my family also loves BCV and BWV but our kids were little when we bought in, so we will sometimes switch at 7 months, but you don't need home resort points for that.
If he can be swayed with saving money, SSR. Low dues, so cheap compared to other resorts, points used for longer stays and to upgrade to one bedrooms. The only thing is you dont like split stays, so that would def be out.
This is also a good idea - at the time we bought in, BLT and SSR were only about $5-10 pp apart, so we decided on BLT so we always "at least" had a home resort we wanted at 11 months. But if you like Disney Springs, and don't mind being at SSR, it can be a good choice for "sleep around points". (Note - we just came back from a stay at BLT, refurbished, and I am hanging on to those points!!) Another option is you can bank and use 150 + 150 points every other year for your non-AKL stays, that is enough for a good trip in a 1br (easy at 7 mo) or a shorter trip in a 2br (a little harder, but doable).
More AKV is a possibility. We do love it there. I’m trying to decide where else I would like that 11 month priority - or if it really matters. The dues are a little sad at AKV, so I lean toward another resort, but not enough to be fully convinced.
If the dues are sad, then definitely look at a lower dues resort - and rather than split stay, bank/borrow and have up to 450 points for a bigger trip in a bigger unit every 2 years or so. 300 points would definitely be good for a 1br or larger stay, depending on time of year.

re: CCV - you didn't mention if you have a family, or plan on having a family, or taking others - the only reason why we (still!) haven't stayed at CCV is because the 1br only sleep 4. Although we are a family of 4, we have sometimes brought my dad (and sometimes last minute), so having a 1br that sleeps 5 is worth it for the extra space and the possible changes to travel plans. BWV: all the 2br are lockoffs so they go quickly - and the 1br also only sleep 4 (you can bring bedding for a 5th but... not for my 84 yo dad.)

I didnt even think of that, with the banking and borrowing suggestion you made, i would def do SSR. I thought about selling my blt for a direct contract, but I just cant let it go. I love the rooms and location among many other things 😅 I think its a great resort to have for people that have kids and adults!

The issue with the “buy a 2nd home resort and bank/borrow” strategy is the loss of flexibility if points were already banked or borrowed in and the owner has to cancel a trip… the window of when those points can be used is stuck.

2042 was a hard pass for my husband until we broke down the point savings staying resort view or boardwalk view. You have to own to book those typically. 1 bed resort can be possible in certain seasons at 7 months but not all. When compared to cash costs or when compared to the points it takes to stay elsewhere and buy in costs elsewhere it made it worth it.

My next would be CCV. The value of CCV is hard to beat. I don’t think CCV is anything like AKV.
