2nd Contract Advantages

If budget is not an issue, buy more where you wan to book the 1BRs. I am finding having more points at one resort gives me much more flexibility at our home resort. IF at 7 months, we want to switch and their is availability we can. I now dream of some day booking a Grand Villa. A lot hard to do at 7 months with all our points than to be able to book it (with banking and borrowing of course) with the points and not have to worry.

200 is enough for 8-9 days for studio or 4-5 1BR. If the boss wants 1BR, we can go every 2 years OR buy another 200 as you suggested. It's a personal preference but while the 1BR is great -- to me -- it's not worth 2X the cost for a place to sleep at night. But, that's another debate all together.

Instead of the same resort, are there any other advantages for a different resort such as GFV? This would allow me to switch between the 2 resorts every other year if I wanted to stay 1BR at RIV.

I can say that they currently will transfer points from one membership to another as long as some of the owners are the same.

They transferred my 5 banked points from my Dec UY..owned by DH and myself to my Aug UY owned by us and or kids

So, currently, they are not only transferring more than once when it’s the same owner, they even transfer banked points

But, you are correct that the rules regarding transfers can always change..
Wow, I never knew we could transfer banked points to ourselves!
How long has that been available? First time I read that.

Anymore info on this? This can't be a regular thing unless it's for 7 months only.

In my situation, we were within 7 months but the points were resale RIV going into a RIV reservation.

Again, I don’t know if it’s standard or because it was only 5 banked, she offered to do it and I was surprised.

She said when transfers happen between your own memberships they do not stick to the one per UY and in my case, even moved banked points.

That's one of our strategies, we own 3 resorts and sometimes we will visit alternate visits and have 2 years' worth of points to use. This also allows us to use one of the other contracts for a shorter stay. Sometimes we will book at our home resort at 11 months and then see what is available at 7 months and modify the reservation. Lots of fun and you get better at it the more you do it. The new Poly Tower may be a nice option to wait for if you want a MK resort.

This is what I am thinking. I guess part of me is concerned I will miss out on the current GFV if I wait for Poly Tower but I always thought Poly was nicer. I debated resale but the different in points isn't a HUGE amount of money so why would I introduce restrictions? I don't really understand the resale aspect given the savings isn't massive.

We own at VGF and love the Villas. I think VGF studios will be easier to book than Polynesian Tower, at 7 months especially if it is a new association. The studios at Poly are usually available right at 7 months and I would think that VGF studios should be the same as it gets closer to selling out. The 1 BR and larger will most likely be more difficult to book at VGF unless you own there. I agree about resale, I think it can be a pretty good savings but for me, I don't want to bother with the restrictions. I like to stay at different resorts sometimes with my non-home resort points.

Since we own 200 at RIV, does it make sense to buy cheaper resale at RIV if just need additional points (100 or so) to accommodate the 1BR for our typical 8-10 days? We already have BLUE and we have the 200 direct if we want to go try a different hotel. I am thinking the market is going to continue to puke and ppl will sell off -- not sure why Disney wouldn't buy all of the deals up with ROFR though.

This is what I did and since it is my favorite resort it works!!

The boss is pushing for that. I mentioned WBC and she killed it due to lack of transportation. I mentioned AKL which it's lower point schedule and she didn't bite. I tried Poly2 but it just has studio -- She lives 1BR. So, I guess I am back to RIV. I was concerned I wouldn't like RIV given the negativity but it's very very nice. I just like more options and there are some with potential more value (resale/SAP/WBC/etc.) but she isn't a fan so the decision might be easier than I thought. :)

My SO loves RIV. We are a 1 Bedroom family but we don't stay in the One bedrooms at RIV as they are point heavy and the studios do not offer two showers while the studios do.
We end up booking both a standard studio and 1 bedroom at 11 months and then switch the 1 bedroom to a different location at 7 months to save on points. We generally try to get a BLT Lake view so we have walking to MK and get the 2 showers as the 1 bedrooms have 2 full bathrooms and we save about 20 points doing it.
