......................................

This is what I'm wondering too... We've been to the ER 3 times this year.. once with a broken bone, once with an earache on a Sat., and yes we took my dd for pinkeye. We were in and out and home with in 25 minutes one (the broken bone one was more like an hour) of the ER's around here is NEVER ever busy. :thumbsup2 My copay for the er is 27$ Its 25$ for the dr. if my child is in pain on a weekend I'm not going to wait til monday to save a whole 2$

A broken bone is an emergency.

An earache is not. Pink eye is not.

For those issues, I would either go to a walk-in (urgent care) or I'd call my doctor and speak to the covering physician and see what he/she recommends.
Having people in the ER with pink ey and ear infections is the reason the ER has a 4 hour wait.

We do NOT having urgent care. We have ped's with office hours until 5pm and if you dont call by 8am you dont get in that day.. or we have ER's. How I wish we had urgent care or wallgreen's minute clinics.. Pink Eye happened on a holiday weekend. Like I said there was NO one else there but us.. no 5 hour wait.. it was a 5 minute ride 5 minute wait 5 minutes in the room with the dr and 5 mins home with the meds in hand.. I'm sorry you feel like this is miss treatment Oh well its over done 27$ check sent to the ER for their awesome services :thumbsup2 Its not like I do this weekly.. but I'm not going to let my kids suffer over the weekend in pain for 2$

I have no issue with the money, I have an issue with people who use ERs as doctors offices.
All pediatricians have covering doctors & if they don't for peace of mind I would find another pediatrician.

For those who won't go to the ER unless you're dying, what do you do on weekends when you've got some serious illness going on that you'll need meds for?

I'm not one who rushes there for any little thing. The last time I was there was over a year ago. I started having severe abdominal pains early in the day and they kept going until well into the night. Finally around 11 pm I'd had enough and had hubby take me to the ER. They gave me something for the pain, but couldn't find anything wrong (uh, but didn't do x-rays or any tests other than a blood test ).

I have not been to the ER since 2002 and that was only because I was seen at the DRs office and they wanted further testing. So the only way I am going to the ER is if I am too sick to drive myself to the drs office.
