21st August 2011, Disney Dream

I dont know why I am so resistant to putting my specific town online...but I am. For some reason I feel more secure being a little vague :confused3
But I'd say you could put down Lancaster County and that would proabbaly get you a Wiki site with info

Have a great weekend everyone :cool1:

No problem Joi, fully respect your choice. Some people prefer just the state they live in. Now linked to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania:thumbsup2

Welcome aboard Sonnyeclipse & family.
I will add you to the list of cruisers but won't be for about 2 weeks. I am in Orlando until 16th Apr. Drove over to see last night launch for shuttle this morning :cloud9:

We are a family of three from UK just back from our first Disney Cruise around the Med on the Magic. We had such a great time that we decided to book on board for this cruise on August 21st 2011. I see that this is the dis page!
I am keen on lots of advice please from anyone, we are from the UK so we thought about one week at the parks before the cruise and then have the cruise at the end. I am not too sure if this is a bad time of year to go as we are told that August is very hot?
Also not sure how we would manage for transportation to the port of we stay on Orlando before the cruise as I am told that the port is not very nearby?
By the way my son is aged 9 but he will be 10 by the time we go next year.
Any tips and advice would be great please!!!!
Tracey and Eric

Welcome aboard Tracey added you to the list of cruisers here
Yes August is hot but we manage no problem. Everywhere has aircon, drink plenty of liquid and you will be fine.
To the port Disney provide a bus service $69pp return info here http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/cruise-new/cr-transportation.htm
Another option is a taxi/town car service around $200 return, same link for info.
Last option is a car rental, will you not be driving? its the way we always do it.

If you want any info on trip planning (flights, hotels, transport, coping with weather etc) come and join us on UK Trip Planning section where I am a moderator, you will be made very welcome. http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=47

Thanks for your reply and advice, I am planning this trip on a budget so need all the help I can get!
I am considering using my tesco vouchers to book the flights and hotel pre cruise but it may work out very expensive I will have to see. I do have the equivalvent of over £ 1000 worth of tesco vouchers though so could pay about a quarter! of it that way, still would have to find around 3k though plus the cruise as well that is near 2k$ for the three of us!
I would like to stay near Universal as we must do the HP section that is an abosoulte must as we have done the Disney parks many times we can be a bit specific this time round and not do all of the parks and we will only have one week pre cruise anyhow!

Hello everyone, we are from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. We have sailed on other cruise lines before and this will be our first with DCL. Cruisers will be DW, two DDs (17 & 19 on departure date), and myself. Our cabin is 9507.

Can't wait until 2011, it will be a blast!!

Matthew

Wow, that's funny, we just booked our cruise and we have 9509. Next door to you Matthew.

We have 2 cabins. We are Grandma and Grandpa and Grandson 11 in one cabin, DD 37 and DSIL 42 and Granddaughter 8 in the other. I know we will bump into you in the hallway. Do you have 9007 also? We have 9011 also.

See you then.

Rich

Yes. I have logged into my account and I get this message, its now 2 hours after the estimated repair time so hopefully not too much longer.

PS Good luck to USA in the soccer world cup tomorrow. Hopefully England will win but I think it will be a close game.

It looks to me that France didn't play up to their potential today, they looked frustrated. Uraguay did a good job.

May be it will be a draw between USA and England .

Let me know when the site is back up please....

Rich

Yeah, working again. Link here if you can check your details :thumbsup2

I so wanted Uraguay to win :rotfl: France are not great anymore, lack of leadership, no enthusiasm. They will be back in future years when they get a new manager but Uraguay did a good job.

As I'm Welsh I will only be supporting one team - whoever England are playing !!! :lmao::lmao:

In all seriousness, I really believe that on the world circuit, USA are the team to watch. It has taken off big-time there, they have the money to attract big-names and for high-school, there is less of a health and safety risk from injuries in comparison to American "Football".

Anyway, next August will be another first for us; we have just booked a private villa for the first time - a 7 bedroom villa in the Terre Verde resort (behind Medieval Times).

The plan is that we leave there on the Saturday then stay the Saturday night near the port to join the ship in the morning.:cool1:

David

Well Done USA 1-1, Either team could have won it.

We don't know where we are staying next August yet. Last August and this August at OKW because of the really low rate & DDP (£100/$145/nt incl tax with free Dining) but next year its going up to £108/$156, still a great rate for OKW but we prefer to be offsite, found a good rate at Best Western Lakeside where we like to stay for £23/$33/nt incl tax & internet access.
We also have relatives considering going for the 1st time, if they go it will be for our 1st 2 weeks (4th-18th, we will stay til the 29th) so need to have a chat with them where they would like to stay.
I know it won't be a villa though, we prefer a hotel, couldn't cope with sharing a villa even with best of friends or relatives:goodvibes

I won't dwell on the football :lmao::lmao::lmao:

We are slowly building up our accomodation for August and on purpose having a mixture of DVC, private villa, hotel etc so the in-laws can experience as much as possible.

Where did you find the Best Western rate as their website only goes up to June 2011? Booking direct with Virgin, the rate is £25.00.

Also, with Virgin the rate for the Fairfield (where you and I stayed Christmas 2008) is £25.00 per night, Springhill is £32.00 and Courtyard is £30.00.

We need this for three days AFTER the cruise before we go into OKW.

Let me know !!

David

Can't get rates with Virgin beyond May, did you ring?

My rates are with Monarch.co.uk, used them this Easter and for our 1st night this August.
17nts from 4 Aug 2011 Room x 17 nights x £24.27 = £412.59
Less 5% Quidco = £392.02 or £23.06/nt.

Unfortunately Monarch tend to give a discount 7 nights or more so for only 3 nights after the cruise it would be slightly more.
3nts from 25 Aug 2011 Room x 3 nights x £27.51 = £82.53
less 5% Quidco = £78.40 or £26.13/nt

All your quotes from Virgin seem very cheap(they are usually a lot more then Monarch) you sure they didn't quote per person instead of per room? I would snap their hand off for Fairfield at £25/nt, Monarch want £41.94 (less Quidco)

Hi to Wayne and everyone.

More cruisers from the UK!

We will be on this cruise (our sixth) along with several other family members (just to let you know, although Wayne and I have never met we have stayed in the same place at the same time on many occasions so it looks as though we will finally get to meet).

Our UK group is me, my wife Helen, my son Alex (17 at present), my daughter Bethen (10 at present), my niece Lizi (14 at present), my father-in-law Alan, and mother-in-law Elaine. For Alan and Elaine it is their first time in USA as well as their first Disney cruise.:grouphug:

We are all in rooms 8017, 8018, & 8020.

Please feel free to add our details to the list of other disers on the cruise.

David
