20th anniversary - where would you go (besides Disney)?

My 20th wedding anniversary is coming up and DH and I would love to actually do something just the 2 of us. We virtually never have alone time (we used to try for 1 date/year but that hasn’t worked out for the past few - now the only alone time we ever get is Costco a few times/year) so hard to think about adult-centered trips.

Where would you go for up to a week in mid-March during his spring break? Budget is flexible/not the driving consideration, but time definitely is (Ie Thailand is probably too far to travel from the East Coast). Weather too - for as much as I want to go to Scotland I can’t see going in March. He has had Barcelona on his list for a while but for some reason it doesn’t really call to me. I’m torn about going to a beach in the Caribbean or Mexico and doing nothing vs trying somewhere new.

Pre-kids we did several long weekend trips to Europe so I could see that working. We could also find somewhere interesting to visit in the US. I mostly just want to do something special to justify being away from the kids for that long (and spending the money vs spending it on a trip with the family).

Disney is off the table as there’s no way we could go without them. Also it’s too crowded that time of year vs our preferred January timeframe.

Are you "winter weather" people at all? If so, c'mon up and see us in the Canadian Rockies. Banff and Jasper are breathtaking any time of year and the type of outdoor activities available during that season would make for a unique and very memorable milestone celebration. Happy Anniversary!

Funny, I was just looking at the AbD Canadian Rockies trip. It looks absolutely spectacular and very unique. I am not a huge fan of winter, but maybe DH would be intrigued.

I do want to add a Glacier/Rockies/maybe Yellowstone (I know they aren’t close by) summer trip to our list for the next few years for sure.

My husband is obsessed with Greece at the moment and if we could get away in March I'd book that trip in a heartbeat! It is far enough south for pleasant winter/early spring weather and looks like the perfect mix of lots to do and lots of relaxation. I'm not a beach person so I have never really enjoyed trips where the beach is the whole point, but somewhere like Greece with a good mix of history, culture and outdoors has a lot of appeal.

In the US, my favorite trip around that time of year was Vegas and Death Valley. The desert is beautiful in the early spring when the wildflowers bloom, the weather is perfect, and the proximity to Vegas makes it easy to have a few active days followed by a few days of relaxation.

I love the idea of Greece!

We are doing Vegas this coming summer between the Southwest and Disneyland. It will be hot but that’s what pools are for.

Since you mentioned Costco, it has a package for Anse Chastenet in St Lucia, buy 4 nights get a fifth free. Love that place! (May not include March though)

I absolutely love Europe. We visited Prague and Vienna for our 20th anniversary. I would consider at least a long week (include weekends) to your dream location. Winter weather is fine just layer up...enjoy warm fires and mulled wine!

US- some of my favorites that time of year are Nashville, New Orleans, San Francisco with Napa and Sonoma, Miami and the Keys.

Outside the US- Paris or London

I’m not a big fan of beaches unless there is a lot of other things to see and do.

Seville and/or Granada in Spain. They should both be decently warm in March, the orange blossoms may even be in bloom then (they smell AMAZING). They're both lovely with so much to see and great food. Granada in particular is super cheap.

I get it! We both work. I leave the house at 5:20am and get back about 5:30pm. DH is a professor so he ends up having flexible days and working a lot of evenings. When we are home our kids want our attention or have activities of their own that one/both of us needs to deal with. We also don't eat out that often, so we don't prioritize it.

We thought about doing something if DS ever had a scout event and DD had a sleepover the same night, but for some reason timing doesn't overlap that well (most of her friends stay at our house) or something will come up.

At this point we're kind of used to it, unfortunately. DS only has 5 more years at home, DD 9, and then we'll be empty nesters. I'm dreading it already.

We did Seville for Valentine's Day pre-kids. It was awesome.

I'll always remember sitting in the Plaza D'Oro when Weird Al's Amish Paradise started blaring from somewhere. It still makes me laugh.

Jiko worked because we go to Disney with my mom, who is their favorite person in the whole world, and they did "fun fast dinners" and then hit the pool while mom and dad did one "slow boring dinner." Eventually timing just didn't line up well with everything else we wanted to do down there.
