2026 points chart?

No, they are not. But that doesn't mean a Resort view room can't e.g. have a sidelong glance at the pool. To put it another way, which is more likely:

  1. Some mid-level MBA marketing type determined that "Resort view" sounded better than "Standard view" when selling hotel rooms.
  2. DVC reclassified rooms all over the system for Reasons.
This is a system-wide change in nomenclature. That doesn't sound like reclassification to me, because Occam is a thing.

You could still keep the original more precise definition and just call it Resort View. I would buy that logic if they hadn’t changed the definition to go along with it

Agree. There weren't any changes to the point charts which would suggest that the numbers of Standard / Resort / Preferred / Lake view rooms are changing at any resort. And they've always had the flexibility to (quietly) reclassify individual rooms if needed. They've made slight tweaks to Standard vs Lake at BLT in the past, also Standard vs Savanna at AKV. They didn't need to rename everything to swap a couple specific rooms between the higher/lower categories.

So I reviewed the BWV changes in detail:
Bottom 3 categories that include Jan, Sept, May, June 1-10, and Dec 1-23 all saw weekday standard (now resort) view raised by 1 point. (5 point per week change)
4th category (Feb 1-15 and June 11 - Aug 31) saw weekday standard view lowered by 1 point. (5 point per week change)
5th category (Oct-Nov minus Thanksgiving) saw weekEND standard view lowered by 1 point. (2 point per week change)

The result is a flattening of the Boardwalk Standard (Resort) view weekly rates for what amounts to about 60% of the year.
The lowest four categories used to range form 71-92 points for a week a difference of 21 points, with the 5th category at 104.
In 2026 the lowest four categories range from 76-87 points for a week, a difference of 11 points, with the 5th category now at 102.

As a owner of 75 points at Boardwalk to use in October/November, this helps a little bit but not as much as I was hurt by the 2021-2023 shuffle which saw point prices in Oct/Nov go up a LOT (At least 2 points a night.)

As a guess to why they did this - Resort view studios at Boardwalk are very hard to get all year long, perhaps they thought flattening the point prices made sense because of this, but they haven't done it with other popular categories, so maybe it's a test?

The description may have changed but it could be because it’s more reflective of what happens with the rooms and it helps to temper expectations.

But that doesn’t mean that rooms that are currently standard will all of a sudden become a new category. As balance of points still is required.

Occam's razor for Disney works differently:

If you have two competing ideas to explain the same phenomenon, you should prefer the most convoluted and complicated one

but in this case, I'd agree with you. It seems a marketing change

Those changes are for studios only, right? Not 1BR - what about 2BR?

For Disney, it's Macco's Razor.

As a mid level marketing MBA, DEFINITELY the first one.
