2026 points chart?

While it is true that Disney can reallocate points with certain parameters, those parameters include:
  • The total points for a year cannot increase (holiday/date fluctuations taken into account)
  • Your total % ownership of a unit cannot be changed
Important language in the POS: “that the total number of Home Resort Vacation Points existing within a given Unit (i.e., the amount of Home Resort Vacation Points representing 100% of the Ownership Interests in a given Unit) at any time may not be increased or decreased because of any such reallocation."

One of the biggest reasons for the 2020 rollback was because the lockoff premium materially changed the points of a vacation home unit and affected the ownership interests.

While the water is a little murky for resorts that have no dedicated 1BRs, they usually have dedicated studios, so it’s possible to calculate ownership and see if they are violating this rule.

DVC did violate this rule after the Treehouse Villas were added to SSR and they rebalanced their point chart, increasing THVs and decreasing 2BRs. I owned contracts whose units were both and I calculated out the difference and my ownership % changed (if you search there’s a post on here some time ago about it), but not enough owners cared - honestly enough other owners benefited - so there was not the outcry to fix it like there was the 2020 charts. The 2020 charts materially affected everyone, there was a huge outcry, and Disney rolled them back.

So Disney can reallocate across seasons and dates and such within a given vacation home, but they cannot really allocate across vacation home units, per the POS (the exception being the trust CFW is in). And even if they could, there would likely be enough of an outcry that for PR reasons Disney is unlikely to try it. Thankfully there are some people who analyze changes in the points charts and post them to help owners see when DVC is violating the POS.

Now, as a “I prefer 1BRs” owner myself, I do wish 1BRs were cheaper. I started doing the “Disney math” and booking 2BRs when traveling with my sons, but when it’s just the two of us, that 1BR jump is painful. The “paint saver” devil-on-my-shoulder always argues I should just book a studio because do I really need all that space? The angel on the other shoulder says yes, yes we do. It’s why we bought into DVC.

That said, we do often do studios for our first night or two, for an extra savings, especially if we’re arriving on Thursday/Friday and staying for a long time, so that we pay the weekend premium on the studio and then switch. We often fly in on the evening, so its often my bed time when we get to the resort, so I usually see that first day as a “waste” of a 1BR cost and book a studio and then switch the next day. It also gives me a reason to try out studios at other resorts, since we can just have Disney move our luggage the next morning for us.
Stupid question here as I’ve never done a Disney split stay and we’re new DVC owners. We usually fly in on Friday and stay in a hotel outside of the Disney resorts (Flamingo Crossing/Good Neighbor Disney Springs) using Hilton or Marriott Points. Now that we’re DVC members it would be nice to not have to move (by using points for every night, but I agree the first night is kind of a waste). If we did 1 night in a 1 Bedroom and then moved to a 2 Bed for the rest of our trip will they move our bags for us in the same resort? Do you have to be in your room, or do you just grab your stuff at bell services after you get back from the park that day? The only time I swapped resorts was when we went from the Starcruiser to Poly and we just put all our bags in the car and dropped them off ourselves.

You call bell services and they pick up and hold your bags. Then you call bell services from your room once you check in to your new room and they will bring it to you, or you can pick it up at bell services too. I assume you need to be in your room they don’t just drop stuff without you there that I am aware of.

As above, when you check out you can either call Bell Services to come pick up your luggage and wait for them to do so before you leave, or you can drop it off on your way out. Then when your new room is ready, you can pick up your luggage on the way there or call Bell Services when you're in your room, and they'll bring it to you.

I was told that bell services cannot get into your room if you aren't there (we have an owners locker and their instructions say that).

Correct. You have to be there for them to pick it up or to drop it off. So if you don’t want to wait, it’s better to drop it off or pick it up yourself. With an OL too heavy to haul ourselves, we call early and prepare to wait!

As someone who vacations every August and has a FW in Dec, this idea gets my vote!!
Haha there would probably way more unhappy people than happy people, but the beginning and middle of December are really too low in points for what they offer in terms of weather and holiday vibes! You can see that by hard it is to get a December reservation for most rooms types and resorts.

They will come and pick up your bags and hold them for you, even if within the same resort. You do need to be in your room when they arrive. And they will no longer transfer goods that need to be refrigerated, but you can transfer other food items. It really is very easy and convenient!

The first two weeks of December won't be increased further, because DVC sold too many guaranteed weeks for those. If they reallocate, they'll have to make up the difference using their own developer points (or so was said to people who enquired about it).

Can we increase studios and decrease 1Bd’s….

CONSULTANT FROM MCKINSEY OR SOME OTHER NONSENSE: “Our careful research of the timeshare industry that we definitely spent thousands of hours digging into like we billed you for and didn’t just order copies of the booking charts for every other program show that a 60%-40% split for the two halves of a 2 bedroom lockoff will optimize the booking rates of each, maintaining balance within your program.

DISNEY EXEC, WHO HAS JUST SEEN THE LITTLE MERMAID FOR THE FIRST TIME: I think you’ve swallowed a bit too much seawater! We want the studios to be cheap! Because, reasons! A 66-33 split it must be!

MCKINSEY BRO: Our research suggests that you can get a lot out of a 60-40 split, but it’s our job to advise an…

EXEC: You know I just thought of something, a wise person once said “you can’t get something for nothing you know”. What if we make the split *75-50!* So it costs MORE for the one bedroom and studio than the 2 bedroom! Think of the perverse incentives it will create!

MCKINSEY BRO: I consider myself a reasonable merman…

EXEC: LETS RAKE EM CROSS THE COALS!

MCKINSEY BRO: (scribbles furiously) Yes! If you take a look here on the next overhead projector slide that we definitely prepared before this call, our final recommendation is exactly what you wanted to do already! McKinsey does it again! Let’s go do some alcohol - and worse, if you catch my drift! Hahaha!

(Both laugh maniacally)

On a related note, does anyone know how DVC was priced compared to other high quality programs at the time?

On the current numbers the week in a two bedroom is a staggering sum (the week in the two bedroom was the industry standard in the late 80s/early 90s as I understand it)...

Was it always a super-high premium?

Along these lines of balancing demand, all of December needs to be increased in points. A month like August has trash weather and is hurricane season—it should not cost more points than December.
Well hurricane season is from June until end of November should those months/seasons be lowered too?

August is warm, humid did I mention warm? But so is a lot of other months.

You nailed it!
Reminds me of many conversations with MCKINSEY, BOOZ ALLEN, GRANT THORNTON, SAIC, LMI, and the like............... :P

My main argument is that December points and demand are not balanced. My opinion is that the second half of August makes the most sense to balance it.
