2025 Moonlight magic

Why do you think once per season is better than once per park or two/three/four events per year?

Once per season makes it most likely that locals and people who can drop $2k on last minute flights get 4 events a year but less likely for everyone else.
I don't know that it's better, I'm just saying that restriction does make sense to me because not having a limit per season creates a situation where some people can go to all and others get completely blocked out. If my only trip was summer and couldn't get into MM, but others were going to 2-3 of them, I would find it unfair, the same way I don't like walking reservations or spec renting popular rooms with bots.

I understand why they are limiting it to 1 event every 2 months but wish they had posted these changes sooner. There is no way to bank points now and the points have to be used by the end of March. Guess we will just hang out for the day and go to the parks.

Given there is more demand than capacity, I think it would be fairer if it's one per member per year, regardless of season or park.

My actual preference would be to have something that is always available, like a big discount on a After Hour or a ticketed party (MNSSHP or MVMCP) but that would not be marketable like those events.

Newbie questions if someone is kind enough to help me out… We’re new DVC members trying to go to the California Adventure Moonlight Magic. I heard that one used to be not super-competitive, but now that the Disneyland Hotel tower is open, I’m guessing that’s changed?

We don’t have a hotel reservation, so we’d just be trying to register on the 2nd day. Do they hold any spots open for that day? There’s something about getting a link to a virtual queue, but I’m guessing that’s for hotel guests?

Also, can kids come even though they’re not technically “members”? It seems like if we had a hotel reservation, everyone on the reservation could come, but since we don’t, I’m not sure if we can register for our daughter to attend, too?

I’m wondering if we should just make a cash hotel reservation for the Moonlight Magic night and then cancel it if we don’t get a spot…

Anyway, any help or info would be appreciated!

I 100% agree with this.

Agree- once per year, per member seems very fair, especially given there seems to be quite a few folks who have been trying for tickets and are never able to get them.

As in a total moratorium? Lol. I'm new to MM events but my understanding is they don't do events there, and haven't for years (ever?). By cap I just meant "one per year" at that park, or something like that. And had heard HS is the smallest event, so a cap there could make sense to allow more members to experience it.
The first one I attended was at MK. Long time ago and it was cold that night. Don't remember the year.

We are local and have never had any issues registering each year (even with the opening of VDH). We just drive home afterwards, so we use general registration (much more difficult at WDW MM events). The problem with your trying to book a cash reservation is that it would have needed to be booked/modified by yesterday:

If you are successful in getting through to register, you will be able to have 5 guests total on your reservation. You will need to click the registration link and then at 8am PST on the 17th (or whenever Disney IT opens the queue), you’ll be randomly placed in line.

All that to say, honestly, the DCA Moonlight Magic is the lamest MM we’ve ever been to. The ones held at DL were absolutely amazing, but I wouldn’t be too sad if you don’t get in to the DCA event 🤭

If you’re into rare characters, last year’s DCA MM was probably the best MM ever. It made up foe the year prior, which was one of the worst.

That would be fantastic! I’d take one bird in hand over the illusion of many being possible.

Disney and DVC know they make more money selling the idea of being able to get more than what will likely happen in reality. Park tickets are expensive but considering you could do 20 attractions gives it more value than the reality a family averaging less than 8. Direct is a great value considering you might get to do 4 MMs every year, but members are lucky to get one most years.

I wish they’d just go back to E-tickets too lol. They want to sell the illusion that more is possible though.

I haven’t done After Hours but our experience at MM was so much better than the average MNSSHP/MVMCP (lower wait, less crowded) that I would rather do a MM every other year than get a big discount on the standard event.

Another reason it’s weird they lumped DCA in with the other events, since everybody on property would be able to go if they wanted.

This makes me feel better about (likely) missing it.

That said, if anybody has an extra 2-4 spaces on their MM reservation and wants to make a new BFF, let me know. 😍
Yes for now. I think last year 2024 a member could technically max out at 5? TL, HS, EP and one AK before Oct and another AK later in the year.
Real whipsaw going from maybe 5 (and 2 in the same park!) to 1 per quarter, with limited warning. We did 2 last year and are now likely to max at 1 this year.

Thank you so much for the info!

Question: so if the registration queue starts at 11am est - what time does it typically close/finish? How quickly do you know if you have gotten a spot or not? I have a meeting an hour later and I'm trying to decide if I will be finished by the time I need to leave or if I should just go mobile in the first place.

I have always finished in an hour. I have a meeting and hour later as well. 🤞

If you look at some of the earlier MM threads from the day of, you will see that depending on the registration it’s possible you don’t get out of the VQ for an hour, but still manage to land a space— I think it depends on the park and how many events are open for registration at the same time. I would plan to have a VQ entry on mobile in case you need to leave.

I just clicked through the MM pre-registration link and see it asked me to enter my membership number to enter the waiting room-- that's new right, you used to not have to enter it until you got to your place in the VQ, right? Do we think that is designed to cutdown on people opening multiple browsers?
