2022 Annual Dues

IMO..they are still in the estimation phase for costs, especially Skyliner.. and this is typical of when resorts are first on sale.

When we bought recently at Riviera we asked about the Skyliner and maintenance. We were assured that the Skyliner has no connection to maintenance dues and is covered by Disney. We were also concerned that such a transportation service could be costly to members.

All DVC resorts pay a part of the cost for whatever transportation is provided directly to that resort. BWV pays for buses and Friendship boats, VGF pays for buses, monorail and the little MK launch, AKV pays for buses. I’m very sure that RIV pays for buses and Skyliner. They don’t pay all of the cost - it’s shared with other resorts that share that particular transportation system. Check the line item for Transportation in the RIV budget.

makes sense that some of the newer resorts have not had large increases - they were likely planned more meticulously and didn’t need to increase their budgets as much.

The scary part to me here is that we’re seeing 3-4% increases and that’s with the magic express being taken away. I guess if they kept that expense the increases could have been much larger.

I guess I should have bought more SSR rather than OKW but in a year to two Disney may spike SSR dues.

All I've ever seen is the single identical line item in each budget that reads: Transportation - Cost of WDW transportation provided to the Resort. It reads the same for every resort, I believe. Is there some more specific description somewhere that defines exactly what "transportation" is included in each resort's line item. Sure, busses make sense, and launches that only serve one specific resort and aren't serving theme park guests to any great extent, but is there any further definition?

It’s based on the operating expenses of the resort. The buildings are getting older, more expensive to maintain. The figures are audited, they can’t increase and pocket the difference.

Plus, the number of points in DVC across all the resorts is a lot and, the amount we were each paying for DME in that transportation line item had to be so small that it would be hard to notice one way or other its impact.

Yeah, I was pretty sure it’s not readily available (ie published) data.

A happy RR owner here. An increase of .008% when inflation is well…who knows - but way above that! I’m hoping that RRs slow sales translates into smaller increases for longer.

Dues increases are transitory.

No, you are totally correct. I used to complain about dues, but then a DVC salesperson explained how they are good and he gave me this:

I realized then that my way of thinking was totally backwards, the more dues we pay, the better our experience. I now understand that if our dues are going up 3, 4, 5%, or even more....then our resort enjoyment goes up by that amount also. That's the right way to understand it.

Yep. Some people talk about dues as some kind of back door way for Disney to make money, but it just doesn't work that way. That money can only be spent to maintain and improve thing thing that we own a tiny fraction of.

Well they do profit off of dues, it doesn't only go towards maintenance. There's also a management fee that they make which is based on a percentage (I believe around 12%) of the overall budget so that does increase as dues increase.

Correct and as owners, we have no say in how DVCMC sets up their budget using that 12% fee..which is not their own revenue source.

But they make more the larger the operations cost is each year. We also contact with Disney as a property manager and they set those fees. So, the certainly benefit for managing and overseeing DVC resorts.

OKW is an ouch for certain but one thing to consider is if you use the points to stay there the room cost (dues x points) are some of the best. So the over all cost of the room hasn't gone sky high if compared to other resorts. If bought for sleep around points then maybe not so much. There are decisions made for OKW that have been a bit questionable that were almost certain to require larger increases than it had historically experienced. I think it's the only WDW resort that has had what DVC refers to as full refurbishments (2) and they were not done 14 years apart but more like 7 or 8? They have to rebuild the capital reserve sooner It's also spread out and has a lot of dedicated 2BR's that take an extra amount of time to clean. If higher than normal increases in housekeeping are part of it then the actual makeup of the resort may also be a contributing factor.

OKW looks like the largest increase of all WDW resorts at $0.4485/pt. To be over $1000/year hike that would indicate you have over 2200 points. To be fair..most have 10% of the points you do. It just scales.

Be sure you are not looking at what you paid last year because it included the credit for closure.

That will increase what you actually have give them but isn’t counted against the dues increase.

For example my RIV dues stayed the same but I will owe a few hundred more because of the credit last year.
