2017 DVC Member Cruise

DCL's regular summer prices are very steep, I can only imagine the cost of a MC in peak season. I do not mean to be trite, but your day will come! We're retired. I was a math adjunct at UC, and I was shut out of many due to work schedule.

Hi, visited with a cousin who is also a DVC member today. We decided to try to get cabins near each other. I called MS and learned that if we had a 3 way call, we could at least be booking one after the other. That's what we'll be trying to do. We went over the deck plans for the Fantasy and figured out what we would like.

When I booked the Alaska MC, we needed connecting staterooms. The CM grabbed the two rooms first, and then processed the names and payments one room at a time. So maybe you can do that to get two near each other & not have to wait to grab the second stateroom until the first is done.

We called MS to confirm what we were told on Saturday, also to verify WHEN we begin the 3 way call. Which ever of our phones get into the queue first does initiate the 3 way as soon as it's in the queue. So right from the beginning of the talk to a CM, we both are on the line with MS.

A Member Cruise will have a schedule of events that are not presented by DCL, but have been organized or set up by DVC. RCI will give presentations. Ken Potrock may have a cook off. Disney Imagineers are brought in to talk about their projects. Broadway performers can be brought in to give performances. In post 63, I show the July drawing in the special Disney calendar we got last year. The artist talked about her work at Disney. Ducky Williams has been on a number of DVC Member cruises. My favorite presenter has been Stacia Martin. During her presentation of the celebration of 50th anniversary of the NYC's World's Fair I learned a lot about the behind the scenes makings of Small World, the Ford exhibit, Mr Lincoln and more. She's an excellent speaker. She also talks about animation and draws characters while she talks, and then these are raffled off as door prizes.

A regular DCL cruise may have something special, for instance once on a 7 night cruise there was a presentation on how some shows make their way onto ABC, but these are definitely few and far between on shorter cruises. On transatlantic or Panama Canal crossings, you have a bit more, but nothing of the caliber of what's offered on a DVC MC. On my transatlantic cruise, Stacia Martin was onboard also giving talks and drawing, and on that cruise I was lucky to win her Thumper!

So, you have to decide if the "benefit" of going on a DVC Member Cruise is worth it to you. Some are better than others, it all depends on the presentations offered, are they of interest to you. Personally, I could not care less about Shanghai Disney's preview that was on last year's cruise, but I thought the Broadway Singers presentation on the last night was alone worth my being on the cruise. Yet, when I asked a fellow cruiser about that she said, "It was alright if you like Broadway music."

Yep. We are usually out the Thursday before Memorial Day. Since the Alaska cruise left out 5/29, it was great for us. However, we are back in school early August, this year being August 9th...

Basically, DVC charters the boat and books DVC owners who aren't restricted. The cost will be higher compared to the same itinerary booked with DCL. There will be some freebies and extras but you won't know what they are at time of booking.

I'm considering it, possibly for just DH and I as our 20th wedding anniversary is in June and we could do this as our anniversary trip I just wish our Canadian dollar was a tad bit higher!

90% sure we are. I'm trying to sell DW as this being celebration of our 35th anniversary which is July 31.

We also want to book the cruise for our anniversary - our 40th! We purchased DVC at OKW in 1995 and have done two member cruises on the Dream. I'm excited that this one on the Fantasy is for seven days. On the shorter itinerary, there was so much going on we at times had to choose between two activities that appealed to us. Hoping that the seven days will allow a more relaxed pace.

We too, hope to be able to do it all and relax!

One January there was a 3 night Member Cruise, and it was crazy busy, but it was all I could manage that year.
