2017 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend

I am such a baby when it comes to cold weather (thanks to growing up in the South) and I have serious respect for everyone who runs in those frigid temperatures! It's a good thing I am not flying to Disney or I would have to check quite a few bags with all my costumes, different clothes for different temperatures plus park clothes for the week.

I am wearing capris (basically no matter the temp...) and a tank. If it get's really cold, i'll bring a quarter zip and ear band to wear, so hopefully I won't have to pack too much extra! I think it's the park outfits that will take up the most room.... Maybe I should pack light so I will have extra room and reason for souvenirs ;)

I pack an extra duffle bag in my luggage. I always come home with way more than I start out with. Especially on race weekends. lol!

And I assume that this means your prescription is too much for an OOP Lenscrafters visit? Yeah, probably not.

Well, one of the better races I've had was the Seattle Half 2014, which started at 20 degrees. The only real issue was that the first corral runners weren't thinking about their water stops, so the later runners got to traverse sheets of ice while drinking powerade.

But the issue with cold at WDW is that rundisney makes you be at the corrals for an hour *or more*. So then you're standing, waiting. You got up at 2:30, you got on the bus at 3, you got there at 4, you walked out to the start and now you're just waiting.

Seattle Half we stayed at a hotel right near the Space Needle, got up, had coffee, had free breakfast, hit the restrooms, walked 5 minutes to the start and 5 minutes later the run started. A LOT different.

the other issue is that one day it can be 28 and the next day it's 78. It's ridiculous. It's very taxing on the body. :)

Never even thought about the frozen water at the water stops or the wait in the corrals. That's why I am happy that I came to these boards to learn some lessons before I embark on my first runDisney races.

If it's going to be cold at the start of a race I'm bringing "throw away" stuff. I get really hot when I run and look like a tomato when I'm done, but don't want to freeze my buns off in a corral. I'll bring a cheapie walmart hoodie, mittens & something for my ears and toss them on the side of the course when I get too hot. I have cheap fleece blankets I can pack too for standing around in the corral (those $5 Christmas deal type ones). I live 3 hours south of WDW and drive there so I can overpack as much as I'd like :)

A friend of a friend buys brand new Hanes-type sweatshirt and sweatpants, keeps the tags in, and wears them to the start of cold races. Just as the race is about to start, he takes them off, carefully folds them up, and puts them in an easy to get to spot for the people collecting clothing. That way maybe someone can get a brand new matching set of sweats from the charity.

I think it's lovely. He's a seriously decent dude.

Always step carefully through the water stops! Disney cleans them up better than other race coordinators, but runners are not basketball players, and don't always get the cup through the hoop.

I'm starting to seriously think that for me it's a form of addiction. I don't do drugs (not even the legal stuff in WA), I don't drink to excess, but I keep doing these disney things. And I don't even love them! See my post after the SW 10K. Did. Not. Have. Fun.

I was laughing while approaching the run-up to the end of the SW Half because "I never have to do a Disneyland run again!"

And 30 minutes ago convinced myself I have to do Tinkerbell, then was very disappointed because it conflicts with something I'm already committed to doing.

And while I COULD fly down, get bibs, do the 10K, fly back up and do the commitment, then fly back to do the Half (which isn't THAT different than what I did for Rock&Roll Vancouver challenge, with a drive back to Tacoma to see my kid dance then pack him and hubby in the car to drive back up to sleep to wake to do the Half), I'm not sure that's a healthy idea!

Addiction is the answer for me. That's what's wrong with me.

I guess that could be the answer for me too. I have yet to finish a half not in pain, and yet I would still tell you I had fun and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.

I pack an extra duffle bag in my luggage. I always come home with way more than I start out with. Especially on race weekends. lol!

I do the same thing. Then I shove all of my dirty laundry in there and use my suitcases for the souvenirs.

My fabric just arrived for my running capes!

I am so excited to spend this weekend indoors sewing two capes for two costumes - it's suppose to rain so why not do a rainy day project?

I'll post results when done :)

Making: Elsa and Snow White
Yay! Super excited to see them! I just tried on my cape/cloak.....I'm not exactly channeling Belle, but I'm sparkly pink so it will have to do! Lol.

You'll have to share yours too! Are you tying it to the sports bra? I think that's what I will probably do.

Hello, I'm really kicking myself for not signing up for the challenge this year (I'm registered for the 5k and 10k). I have reservations booked and paid in full for my Disney stay so picking up a bib through one of the RunDisney travel agents would get kind of messy as we used a different agency for a room special. Would a Raw Threads member let me know if it is still available through Raw Threads? I'd hate to throw $125 to join if it's not available. I appreciate it!

This has probably been asked and answered before so sorry in advance, but I can't find the information. My mom wants to see me run through Magic Kingdom and then at the finish line. If we are staying at Pop, what time do you think she will need to take a bus to Magic Kingdom to see me there? Would it be best for her to take the monorail from Magic Kingdom to Epcot to see the finish, or would a bus be better? Thanks in advance for any advice, we are new to runDisney :goodvibes

Raw threads club member here. As of Tuesday the race weekend is sold out and they're not doing any additional registrations. Sorry.

She'll want to get on the bus to the starting area with you and then take a monorail to the Magic Kingdom - they won't have direct buses to MK from the resorts that early. Then she can hop back on the monorail to head to the finish. :)

Thank you! I am not sure she's going to want to get up that early, hahaha. Looks like I might be on my own and just need to rely on photographers for my pictures!

I recommend snacks and coffee/cash for your mom! They'll be selling stuff in MK. I also recommend bringing your phone/camera with you - CMs, volunteers and other runners will be happy to play photographer for you! :)

If Mon handle getting self to race buses to Epcot and than to monorail she could take last bus from resort around 5a.

A good idea no matter what. FWIW I was waiting at the finish line, in full view of all the finishers, and I still missed my son crossing the finish line for the 5K at Star Wars last weekend. Let alone being in the mash along Main Street hoping to see one person in the crowd! :)
