2017 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend

What time did Epcot open on the morning of the half? My DH is in corral B, so I think he will finish well before the park would usually open for the day.
9:00, if I recall correctly. So anyone wanting to go into the park to watch would need a ticket.

If a spectator doesn't want to use a park ticket, it's possible to watch outside of the park - either by the bus stops at Epcot or at the finish.

I ONLY BRING THIS UP BECAUSE ...

Everything is computed and automated. WHAT YOU PUT AS YOUR ESTIMATED TIME IS HOW YOU ARE INITIALLY SORTED.
Thanks for the info Keels. I always thought they did PoT over estimated time but this year a friend who had a 1:28 10k was put in corral M (which is not within the range of M according to McMillian) while another friend with a 1:23 10K was put in N (borderline M-N).

And the "sweet spot" distance is the 10-Miler. If you can find one of those, RUN IT.
This. This. This. My 10 Miler times seem to be my best. I can keep a higher pace than a half but they look so much better than my 10k times because of how McMillan works.

I'm doing the 5k and the GSC...at the expo, do I go to the Field House for bib and gear bag pick-up? Does the GSC bag include both 10k and 1/2 marathon shirts and stuff or do I also have to go to the J Center to pick up the 10k and 1/2 marathon gear bag?
@Ariel484 Thank you for letting me know that I can still get the GSC medal even if I'm off my pace! That eased my mind since I thought I had to do both within the 16min/mile pace. I may now be able to get in a pic or two!

Ok...disregard my question! I found the answer several pages further in the race info. I just have to go to the Field House!

You will go to the Field House for bib pick up and bag pick up for the GSC, the 5K shirts are at the Josten's Center though. At least that has been my experience.

My magic bands have finally made it to Montgomery, Alabama! Now let's see how long it takes them to travel the additional 45 minutes to Auburn and my doorstep :thumbsup2

mine are supposedly in the town next door as of saturday...but won't get here until Wednesday... I wish I could just go over on my way home and pick them up!

Wow! I take a weekend off from Dis and missed a ton on this thread!

Re: Training... I feel confident that I will be able to finish <3 hrs, but I wish I would have added some more speed work for a faster time. "If" I do another half, I think I will try that.

I am flying in Friday late afternoon, so will be going to the expo on Saturday. We are also going to AK on Saturday. I can't decide if I want to to go to AK first and hit the expo right before it closes or go to the expo first (and miss prime animal viewing on safari). Thoughts?

ok I'm not newbie but it's my first half. Can my hubs get into Epcot to see my turtle butt or should he just go to finish line area. He has gold cheer squad ( I wanted blanket, I'm a princess), He will have AP. My BFF is also running but somehow got put in corral later than me, she is way faster than I, I submitted pot for both of us. What is GSC procedure in terms of picking up/verifying my body is one that ran both races?

You take a picture with your bib at the expo and they compare you to the picture after the half.

To get into Epcot to see you he needs to have admission. The ap provides that. The chear package doesn't give admission. (But if he wants to see you at mk that's fine it's before park opening so people can go in to spectate) The finish is then OUTside Epcot so he'll need to hustle from where he saw you to the finish.

He would need to pick Epcot OR the finish line - I don't think he'll be able to see you at both spots. When we were spectating in 2014 (watching BFF) we chose to see her in Epcot. We started on one side of SSE and then while she ran up to the World Showplace plaza, we crossed over the course to see her on the other side of SSE before she left the park (you can see what I'm talking about in the course magnification below). We thought this was better so we could see her twice and she could have her "finish line moment" without having to look for us...and she could take her time getting pictures in the finisher area afterward. Plus, I'm not sure how easy/difficult it would have been to see her at the finish line, not sure what the seating is like?

For GSC pick-up, right after you get your bib you'll get your photo taken holding up the bib so that your face and number are visible. After your finish the half, you get your half medal and then you'll need to stop at the challenge tent to have your picture verified - volunteers look at you and compare it to your picture from the expo. Once that checks out, you get the GSC medal.

It never dawned on me why they took my picture before the Lumiere Challenge. I just thought they wanted a picture of me. Guess I have been hanging out in the Disney bubble too long. °o°

Thank you for saying this! It's a very good idea and I've been worried about how much of a zoo it is at the finish line. This is the park we're planning for the day, with my meeting up with them after going back to our resort to shower and change and stuff, but I could always go in and see them after I get my medals for a little bit before heading to the resort. Or would it be to difficult to get in and out of with the race still finishing up?

yeah, I think they want to make sure GSC is not a "team effort," so to speak.

I don't think it would be difficult, just remember that you would need to go through security/bag check and use a park ticket like a regular park day. I think the walk from the finish area to the front of Epcot is...15 minutes or so? The last time I did that walk was at the end of the marathon in 2013 (walking to catch the monorail) so it's been awhile and the walk seemed like it took forever so my time guess may not be a good one. ;) As far as the race going on in the park, the CMs help people crossing over the course, so it may be a few minutes of waiting to actually get from one side of the course to the other.

Question that has probably been asked about a million times. Any tips for someone driving to the event? I'm staying off site because I honestly didn't know if I could go until about a month ago! I plan to leave extra early- but how early is that? 3? 3:30?

How long, give or take, do you think it actually takes to actually run the loop around epcot?

I know cheer squad doesn't get him into epcot and that finish is outside in parking lot. I'm just trying to give him ideas of places he can go, and maybe get me that ice cold coke I want lol.

ok I'm going to suggest epcot to him since i'll be balling mess at finish line as it is. there is separate area of bleachers for cheer squad. great on taking pictures at expo, etc. I just wasn't sure since when friend did it few years back I was trying to corral a husband at that precise second so missed what she had to do.

I would plan to be at Epcot by 3:30 -3:45 to be comfortable. You can push it to later but then you will contend with road closures and a lot more vehicles on the road which will be stressful.

Depends on your pace, whether you stop for pictures, etc. It's less than a mile - both mile marker 12 and mile marker 13 are outside of the park.

I just looked back at my pictures from Wine & Dine (the last few miles are the same as the Princess Half course) and I have a pictures of Mile Marker 12 time-stamped 8:35, and my mile marker 13 pictures is time-stamped at 8:51. I had 3 character tops in there, and I also stopped for a picture with Spaceship Earth in the background. So it could have been a few minutes faster without those stops. :confused3 I'd guess I was in Epcot for maybe...10-12 minutes?

So can spectators get into Epcot (with park admission) before the park opens at 9?
