2016 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival: September 14 - November 14, 2016

I am curious why the coupons were not worth it? I thought the general consensus was that if you utilized the coupons for the expensive drinks at the kiosks, that it made sense? We have never used the sampler packs before, but thought we would give it a go this year just for those expensive concoctions. :confused3
We found the coupon experience stressful. We were only going to be there 1 full day. As we started around WS we realized they were going to be tough to use. I knew going in to it we needed to buy drinks and food that were above like 7.00. We found ourselves getting drinks we probably wouldn't get just because they were in that range. There were just so few things with that high a price tag.

Being a seasoned Diser I knew what to do. If it were just the average Joe they probably just started using their tickets on items they wanted to try (costing 4-5 dollars) and got the short end of the stick. They have paid $64 dollars on tickets for $40 something dollars worth of food. Making that GINORMOUS pin/lanyard worth $24. I got MY monies worth though you better believe it!

Btw. That pin is ridiculously huge! Haha!

Couple quick food questions. How are these mostly new items:
1. Greenhouse Guru(Village Farm): Heirloom Tomato Salad with Goat Cheese, Basil
2. Islands of Caribbean: Pescadodon Coco: Grouper with Rice, Coconut Sauce
3: Mexico: Taco De Camraron:Battered Shrimp
4. Chew: Grilled Beef Skewer with Feta Cheese
5. Love fruit and cheese: Fruit and Cheese: Fruit and Cheese Plate at Intermission Café(Also enjoy the Wine and Cheese Board at Wine and Dine Studio)
Any feedback appreciated!:disrocks: CAN'T WAIT!:thanks:
1. Was good but small and underwhelming.

3. Was really good. I wish these came in threes! Lol

4. Was meh. Out of the 3 hunks of meat on the skewer 1 was gristly and I had to spit it out. The rest tasted pretty good.

For anyone going to the Jack Daniels event today, can you tell me if they are allowing bottles of Jack to be bought and signed by Jeff Arnett? Figure they won't but it'd be awesome if they did.

Hoping for any advice from F&W experts? This will be our 1st experience. We'll be there 10/7-10/16, and have 2 weekdays planned for F&W. I'm now throwing in an impromptu short hour or so to Epcot next Saturday night (I know, crazy busy). We'll be @ HS & don't want to call it a night @ 8p. So, hopping the boat or walking to arrive no later than 9p. We don't care about Illuminations bc we'll see it twice later. How insane are F&W booths the last hour of operations? Since it's the closest booth we'd want 2 food items & 1 of the drinks, I want to hit the France booth. But, I know it's very popular. Think the line will still be terrible? If so, any booths you think won't be? With such a short time, I'm only interested in trying to hit one booth (if it's one we'd want multi items anyway). :thanks:

Tasting Sampler - I buy a pin every year and usually drink beer at F&W. I bought the 8-coupon sampler with idea of getting the pin and trying different, expensive drinks and lobster roll these are items I'd normally not try. As PP said pin has around a $15 value (my wife started to buy the passholder pin which seems similar to sampler pin and its cost I think around $15. Sampler pin really is big). My total for 7 drinks and lobster roll would have been $77. For me sampler was worth it but I had to do some research ahead of time to make it work. If you mainly buy $4-5 items of course not really worth it.

Has anyone tried the French onion soup at the France booth? Wondering if it's the same they serve at Chefs de France and if not, how it compares.

Is this a list of the sold out parings, demonstrations and beverage seminars?
No, this thread is dedicated to the 2016 Epcot Food and Wine Festival. If you're interested in finding out if a specific special event is sold out, you can check availability on the WDW website. You can find links for the information on demonstrations on page 1 of this thread, post #3.

I had it at F&G in March but not this year for F&W, I was just tired of eating at the booths by my last day and needed an ice cream from France so that won over. I enjoyed it at F&G, it wasn't quite the same as Chefs but pretty close.

Been back for a few days. Some random thoughts.

1) the Italian lunch at Tutto Gusto was amazing. I posted a review the day after. It was a trip highlight. No room to visit booths & snack after. We were done!

2) Tequila lunch was very good. I would do it again. At least we had room to snack a few hours later.

3) Parisian Breakfast. Would not do this again. Everything was huge. Way too many carbs. Hot chocolate was just ok. Not intimate like the lunches. Packed the place. Stayed just over an hour so nothing open when we were done. We left Epcot and went swimming back at our resort.

4) booths have lost their appeal to us. Fun but getting old.

5) enjoyed dining out. Brunch, dinner at bog, dinner & wishes at CG, Tiffins, wine bar in Italy, nomad lounge and other lounge hopping.

6) it was hot! Slowed us down a bit.

All in all a great 12 days.
I am doing the Tequila Lunch in Nov. And was hoping you could give me more details on the menu and Tequila served :)
Thanks in advance!

I'll try and include pictures too.

We were presented with a huge margarita when we entered the restaurant.

From the printed menu:

1) roasted poblano and chicharron cream soup. Tequila Casa Dragons Blanco

2) pan seared scallop with huitlacoche cream and chipotle betnaise. Tequila Milagro Select Reposado.

3) braised shank with mole verde and Corvina with guajillo pesto cream sauce. Tequila Casa Noble Anejo

4) desert was not listed on the menu. It was served with a tequila liquor. Yummy.

I'll try and put pictures in a separate post

Photos and Mini Reviews:

Craft beers:
We spent the most time here because it was HOT hot hot while we were at food and wine. This pavilion provides air conditioning, a few seats, many tables, and easy access to the booths outside like Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand. On Saturday of our trip the line for the food and beverages was out the door of the building on both sides. On Sunday and during the weekdays it looked more like this:

Pimento Cheese with Pretzel "Crisps" - $3.50. This was good but nothing fancy. The pimento cheese was good and little spicy, the pretzel crisps were like croutons made from day old pretzel rolls. I wish this was served with carrots or something as well. We had this multiple times as it was a large portion size and an excellent pair for the beer here.

Here it is as served, with a lid on. Makes for easier carrying. The beer you see partially pictured is the Florida Beer Company Passport (Belgian Tripel), my favorite of the offerings here.

Poor quality shot of the very excellent Piggy Wings - $4.25 and extremely good. Fall off the bone tender ribs with a yummy Asian-style sauce. We had this multiple times as well.

France:

My favorite use of the Sampler entitlements - the Passion Slush. Normally $10.75, used several of my sampler coupon tabs for this.

I did not have anything else from this booth as it was just too dang hot for French comfort food while we were there.

New Zealand:

Lamb meatball with spicy tomato chutney $5.25. This was okay. I did not need another one but I liked this one just fine.

Steamed mussels with breadcrumbs and butter $4.00. These were not good at all. This was the only thing that did not get finished because we didn't like it (the only other things we tossed before finishing were due to portion size, not flavor). These have been good in previous years (I think it must be if you luck out and get a fresh batch). Sadly that was not the case this year as I think they had been sitting a while and were rubbery.

The Chew Collective:

Peanut butter and white chocolate mousse with caramel drizzle $3.25. Tiny portion but extremely delicious. This was one of my top picks from the food and wine TIW preview event (which was held indoors) but this doesn't fare well in Florida heat. It became peanut butter soup so I only had this once but it would be great in November!

Ricotta and zucchini ravioli with rustic tomato sauce $4.75. This was way better than I expected - very fresh and light tasting despite the heat. This was also a bigger portion than it looks but not a great value by any stretch.

I also had the beef skewer but didn't photograph it. It was absolutely delicious and one of my favorite things at the festival and one of the better values in my opinion since you get the beef and a little salad for $5.00.

Greenhouse Guru:

Chilled Tomato Gazpacho with Lump Crab Meat – $4.50. This was much better than I expected and had a very round flavor with lots of crab throughout. It was very refreshing in the heat.

We also had the duck with polenta here and it was a real standout. I somehow didn't get a photo of it either but we really enjoyed the rich duck alongside a hearty polenta with good seasoning on both.

Patagonia:

Beef empanada $4.75. I had this because I loved it in the past but it was just okay this time. It was more bland than I remembered from prior years but this is a pretty good portion for the price.

China:

Beijing roasted duck in a steamed bun with Hoisin sauce $6.50. This was good but not exceptional. The flavor was a little one note and needed something to balance the sweet Hoisin sauce.

More to come in separate posts!

Are the Autographs and Back to the Basics line-ups for the day posted anywhere online or do you have to go to the Festival Center to see them?
