2016 Destash - The more things you own, the more they own you

11 years later and finally we are finally changing out the ugly gold dining room light that our builder put in. The new one looks SO much nicer! Now what to do with the old one.
We did the same thing before Christmas and changed out brass kitchen door handles along with outside lights. All going
in our spring yard sale.

I took a break the last few weeks. Accept, I did work on my scrapbook room making room for my new Air Cricut and linked all my cartridges. I even scrapbooked some. I did manage to get rid of 2 craft items that would be hard to sell - a blocking board and a smocking pleather. I am gifting them to a friend of a friend. I will drop them off next weekend. More things out of my bedroom closet. I am ready to get back to the sorting. My plans for the next two days because we will probably be out of school due to ice Monday.
Today all church services canceled due to ice will stream service from former pastor in another state. - finalize clothes for both consignment shops. Pulling out 12 and 14s for a friend to look at. Unplug printer that no longer works. Sort through books in computer armoire and relocate what I want to keep to new cleaned out area in my closet. DH has finally agreed to get rid of armoire. It is large and I cannot wait for it to go. Several things are in it that I must find new places for - wireless printer, etc. It is a work in progress. It will make our living room look much bigger and better. DH will be in the den watching football.
Tomorrow - DH back to work, me probably out - tackle toys in den toy closet, finish anything left over from Sunday, finish making cards for events through Father's Day.

My next plan is to start pricing all the tubs I have filled for my yard sale in April and finalize taxes for accountant. I will then have destashed everything upstairs and in our den downstairs. I started right before Thanksgiving. I annually destash so it makes it easier for me. Just did more this year.

I want to do my handles and outdoor lights also. But it will be a project over several months or so. My 1st floor isn't bad with 6 interior handles but then my 2nd floor has 19 handles. Then you have to add the door hinges and door stoppers.

I'm disappointed the 3 foot lavender Disney Christmas Tree didn't sell on Craig's List. I even marked it down to 10.00. I don't want to put it back in the attic so it's going to Goodwill this week.

I'll probably keep the ornaments that came with it and try to sell those separately on ebay. I put a picture of my dining room/ebay room on Facebook for my MN relatives to see and one of them responded with a Good Luck with selling all that note. Gave me a good chuckle since I'd already gotten rid of that much once last year and it paid for my solo Disney World trip in early December.

I can't believe all the extra stuff in this house. Bring on the decluttering 2016! :D

I've had better luck posting smaller items for sale on some of the local FB groups for buy/sell/trade. Just some kooks on Craigslist occasionally so you feel more personable with the FB groups.

OK.. I'm laying in bed, reading this board on my phone. Time to get going! Since DH is at a swap meet today to sell some unneeded motorcycle parts (and make some cash), I'm going to go through my closet. It's been a year since I purged, shouldn't be too bad since I don't purchase that much clothes for me, right? ;)

Managed to finalize the clothes for my friend to look at 3 tote bags full and place extra clothes in a tub for consignment. Ready to drop off to her. Printer ready to be trashed. Sorted through all my books. Relocated ones to keep only a 1/4 of what I had. 3/4 will be boxed later tonight for yard sale when DH brings me some boxes. School called off for tomorrow will work on den toy closet. Tired but good feeling.

Legos sell for LOTS, so do NOT undersell yourself! If you have full kits with instructions they could be worth MORE now than what you paid for them. And don't even think about selling mini-figures without checking their value! ESPECIALLY if you have any Star Wars now! Look around on Ebay and Craigslist for pricing before you sell them. If I had any spare cash right now I might ask you what you have! But alas, my Lego boy is needing college tuition more than he needs Legos right now! On 0n our local FB yard sale groups the Legos get sold without hours, if not minutes, so be prepared! ...................P
Thanks. I know I don't want to under sale. Last year I sold lil pets and under sold. I'll be holding on to those until I do my research. I just don't have time for that. My main thing is to get rid of the clothes and depending on my mood I ight just donated everything but it's extra money for when I don't work 2 months out of the year

I'm taking advantage of snow days & have been going through my clothes. I went through my dresser & all my clothes. I threw away a medium sized bag of items from my dresser & have a large tub full of clothes ready for our summer yard sale. Yeah!!!

I'm struggling with how to best move some vintage dresses out of my house. I have an emotional attachment to them so I want to make sure they go where they'll be appreciated. I don't want to fool with eBay but I live in a small town. I guess I'll look into surrounding areas to see if there are any good consignment shops.

Yesterday afternoon I worked on my jewelry. Cleaned and organized it. Doing this chore cleaned off three dusty areas of my bedroom. I even threw out some stuff!

I now have a shoe box of stuff to give to Goodwill, sell to a resale shop or perhaps pass on to some young girls in the neighborhood. One set of bracelets I had were from Ireland and I had never worn them. When I looked at them, someone at work popped in my head. So I cleaned the sterling charms and tucked the bracelets into her purse for a surprise this morning.

A friend offered to swing through to take a load to Goodwill today too, so I hauled our current large bag upstairs and wrote everything down for taxes! Bye Bye!

My next plan is to visit a resale shop with some of my higher end items. My next KonMari categories will be sheets, blankets and books.

My KonMari clutter work thus far has made it easier to put away my laundry and hopefully soon I will see if it will keep the top of my dresser neater. I think I will stop putting jewelry on my husband's dresser too as everything has a home. I have been pretty excited as some of the changes are small, but have made a big difference.

I got a few more things into my donation pile this weekend. I noticed our chest freezer looked dirty so I scrubbed it and went through all the silly magnets we had on it and got rid of about half. Also, when I went to pull out a fleece blanket, I noticed we had sooooo many so I got rid of 2 that didn't invoke any feelings in me. And I found a few more extra sweaters and pajamas that I haven't worn in so long I forgot about them. I already have almost a carload to bring to the thrift store. I should probably make a drop off soon!

Hauled 67 things of my things to the consignment shop today. Gifted two things to a friend of a friend and dropped off today. Have the 3 totebags of DS's clothes in the car to drop off to a friend of mine for her to look at tomorrow. Two other items going in the car for another friend tomorrow. Finished up taxes today just waiting on W2s. Getting ready to price 2 tubs of yard sale items. Made all the cards I need for Valentines Day through Father's Day. I made good use of the snow days from last Friday through today. Back to work tomorrow. Feeling good about what I accomplished.

My next goal is to price all my yard sale items during the month of February.

Go you! That is a lot of stuff gone/accomplished.

I have worked through ten shoe boxes of pieces and parts for my biz. I was missing 400 embellishments which I got ordered. Once those are here, I will have another ten or so to move to the store!

DH was inspired to go through DS's bedroom closet (which mostly contained DH's and my stuff). A bunch of stuff went in the trash/recycling, another bunch is in the donate pile, and I have to go through some items, most of which will end up in one of those two places. The Salvation Army truck is coming in a couple of weeks, so I will get the donate stuff ready. I am excited because we haven't had a truck in our neighborhood in a couple of years. The local thrift store is close by, but having a set deadline helps me get stuff ready and out of the house.

I also tackled some more paper clutter. Having a shredder next to the filing cabinet has proven helpful.

I had a friend take 3 of the 5 bags of clothes!!!!!! I'm down to needing to donate 2 bags of clothes and a box of "stuff" I got rid of 1 pair of shoes in addition to the ones I already put in the donate pile.

I need to get some more decluttering done but I feel like I don't know where to start again. I really need to tackle the kitchen and my bedroom (again).

Feeling inspired to get more productive on my decluttering because I told DD that we could go to ANOTHER professional conference in July and need to find the $500 to pay for it OTHER than regular income and the money I'm trying to save for the September conference/Disneyland trip that we gave her for Christmas. SUPER motivated to dump the junk and make some cash! I'll report later!....P

Congrats on all the decluttering progress! It's fun to read about everyone's projects and progress.

I spent a few hours going through my room yesterday. I cleared out 3 shopping bags of stuff. There were about 6 pairs of old boots and shoes, and 2 bags of pants and sweaters. I hung all my earrings on a big holder and went through all my dresser drawers. I also tossed some old socks and underwear and organized what was there. I had just done it last year so there wasn't too much but it's still nice to go through and make sure everything is worth keeping another year.

I loaded up the bags with an office chair, queen headboard for a project we never did, and a shelf that I took down because I was tired of dusting it. I still need to grab DS13 and go through his closet bins because I'm sure there are some outgrown clothes in there too. Actually, I'm going to make him do it on his own before he can have his boys night! I've got enough projects and he should be able to handle it.

I still need to finish tackling the basement. I have spring break in early March and will push to get it done then. DD is graduating in May so my goal is to have several projects done before company comes.

Does anyone set mini or monthly goals? I think that might help keep me on track because I am a big procrastinator!

I do. It helps me also if I write it down and then it bugs me until I can check it off.

Salvation Army picked up 9 boxes on Tuesday. I have also been shredding papers from the filing cabinet. Soon I will be able to close the drawers properly.

40 bags in 40 days on FB is OK so far. It does inspire me to get off FB and do something!

40 bags in 40 days is starting up again (decluttering tied to the Lenten season). I joined the FB group. We will see if this inspires me or drives me crazy.

Which group is it? Did you join the one hosted by whitehouseblackshutters.com?

When I type in 40 bags in 40 days, there are a lot of groups that come up.
