2015 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend ** Check-In ** May 7-10, 2015

I also went with the Camelot because they still had rooms available on Orbitz and I had $133.69 in Orbucks from booking our WDW December trip. :) I figure the short walk over there in the morning will be a good warmup. :)

We are staying at the Camelot as well! It won't be very close to the race, but it looks close to the parks for our park hopping days. Plus, the price they were offering couldn't be beat! That's what did it for us. --- I've been using the Jeff Galloway app. I'm a beginner runner. I've only done a couple of 5Ks, but I'm going to do some more before May. I'm getting good at the short runs, it's the long run days I'm suffering through. Hoping to improve over the next few months.

Camelot has always been our favorite place although they do charge for parking now. They have a returning guest rate which we were given and I completely forgot to ask about the runner's rate.

I used Jeff Galloway's tips for preparing for the PHM 5K last year and am trying to absorb all of the great training tips in this thread! My friend says we will shoot for the 10K next year... Yay!!

Hopefully the app is a good fit for you! I loved it, personally. And upgraded as my distances went further and further (10K and now 1/2 marathon). It's all about conditioning which is what those short runs are there for, and you've got plenty of time until May to get yourself prepared and with a few other 5K's added to your belt.

Really surprised that it didn't sell out quickly this time. I think adding the Star Wars and avengers weekends helped.

A combination between that and the move to Mother's Day Weekend, but I'm guessing the move had more of an impact personally.

So excited for the 10k...not for me :lmao: but for my 13 year old dd. This will be her first 10k. She's been a part of a program called Girls on the Run for several years now and has really developed a love of running. To celebrate her graduation from that program (she's aging out of it) I registered her for this race. Her running buddy from her very first 5k will be running this with her. She's done over 20 5ks and is very excited to try this next milestone.

So excited for her!!!

Aw, that's super exciting for your DD!

Good morning!

I was all set to reserve Stovalls over the weekend and it sold out! :)

So I called Hojo in-house reservations this morning and they gave me 15% off for a total of $135 per night. I am actually really happy with that and relieved to have our plans set. :cool1:

Just FYI for you guys if you are thinking of staying there!

Glad you were able to get a rate you are happy with. It's been so long since I've stayed at HOJO I really haven't a clue on what their rates are like anymore, and what deals if any they offer. But things are definitely getting real already with how fast places are going to book up (but hey, at least not as bad as if the events themselves had sold out in minutes).

Heads up for anyone who registered for the 5k opening day ~ check your receipt email to see what you were charged. A few people, including me, we're charged $85 instead of the $75 you were supposed to be. Disney is sending out emails about refunds, got mine this morning, but it went to went to junk email b/c it says WDW Sales. So just keep an eye out for your email and refund if you were overcharged.

Ooh! Good to know, Kim!

Thank you for all the great info!! Excited about the start inside the park... much better than the Epcot parking lot! :)

That's a big draw for the Never Land 5K. The Disneyland one starts out by Mickey & Friends parking structure, so not the prettiest of places, but it could be worse! Time will tell where Star Wars and Avengers begin.

We are booked into the Sheraton at the park. It was a great stay last year really comfy beds. We upgraded to club level ,good food , nice view of park watched color show and fireworks from balcony. It is a bit of a walk but that's okay nice warm up. Can hardly wait! Now just have to get our flight and the Tink Sisters will be set. I'm so lucky to have a best friend who is bringing me. What a perfect way to spend Mother's Day weekend with my friend Sue.

I know! Remember the retro rate that was only like $59 to $69?! Man, I miss those days. I guess when I was comparing $135 to the price for the DL hotel, it sounded good. Still would like to stay over there for maybe just 1 night? The night before the race. Hhhmmmm.

As of today, the Half is still at 78% sold. I think it's pretty much been there all week. I know the Mother's Day thing bothered a lot of people but I'm excited to celebrate at our favorite place with my favorite kids. :lovestruc

Fridays at 8 meet at the front desk of community center easy 40 mins 10 and 1's 4 times. Yoga core class at 9:30 @the center drop in if you can make it. Love to meet you small world!

Once school sorts out if and when they go back I might be able to join u on Fridays

Looking forward to meeting you and embarking on new journey to Tinkerbell. If there is anything I can help you with just give shout.

We will be staying at World mark. May 6-13. Want to spend some time in parks after the races and not worry about tiring out my legs. :cool1:

I would expect it to finally fill up this weekend. Between the upcoming price increase and then people registering at the Expo. Maybe we'll finally see it sell out. But who knows, this registration process has been so strange to watch I wouldn't be surprised if there were still spots.

I haven't really payed attention to what the HOJO has been doing with their rates since I moved to Anaheim and didn't need to stay there anymore, but they were definitely my go to when I was an AP holder. But with how good those rates were and how many people could "use and abuse" them (for lack of a better phrase) they could only last so long. And aren't they expanding now as well? I can't remember which construction around there belongs to which hotel anymore but I drive by them every day when I go to work and it's interesting to watch the progress!

Woah, our thread got buried.

I have a random question. I was looking at the Disneyland Half Marathon photos from the past weekend and it looks like they ran through the Anaheim stadium. Do all the half marathons have different courses? I found a course map on Pinterest of the Tinkerbell, but it doesn't look like it runs through the stadium.

It'll do that now and again ;) May 2015 is so far away! But it will always be around for those that need it! If anyone likes more chit chat in their planning I definitely don't mind a little bit of that.

:goodvibes

To answer your question, yes the half marathons have different courses. Angels Stadium is the highlight and a big selling point of the Disneyland Half Marathon. The Tinker Bell Half Marathon course goes in a completely different direction of Anaheim, so no Angels Stadium. For Tink we run more downtown and on more residential streets. Outside of Angels Stadium, I actually prefer the Tink course to the course for the Disneyland Half. For one, we don't run along the Santa Ana river trail which is pretty much a stretch of ugly dirt and it gets dusty! Plus I feel like there's more shade - which could have been in part due to it being January so not sure if there will still be much shade depending on how the weather is in May but time will tell.

My personal feelings on the course ;)

Question: what is the difference between clock and net time?

i was looking at the results of the disneyland half last weekend b/c I wanted to see the time of the ladies within my age division so I ensure I will finish Tink and not get pick up :thumbsup2
i see some with a net time of 4:30, isn't the time limit 3:30 to finish?

The clock time is the time from the very start of the race until the runner crosses the finish line. The net time is from the time the runner crossed the start line until they finished. So with all the corrals, it's possible it took some people up to an hour before they started.

The time limit for the races is 3:30, but it's 3:30 from the time the last person crosses the start. So if you're in the 1st corral and take your time, it's possible to run it in 4-4:30 hours.

thanks for the details -- all good things to know

I plan/hope to run two 10Ks before Dec and submit my time so I ensure I am in a decent corral

The race is still far far away, but if anybody's thinking about costumes or shirts to wear post race, Raw Threads has some of the Tink themed shirts on sale right now.

no costume ideas yet
running a color run this Saturday with my homemade tutu :rotfl2:
we shall see how I run in that before I figure out a costume

I'll have to look into their stuff again. I have a tank of theirs (Evil Queen) from last year and sometimes I like their stuff. I haven't thought about costumes really since I never actually do much, but maybe this will be the year. I'm not big on the fairies so I'm thinking along the lines of Snow White and Merida (aks the excuse to color my hair red again).
