2013 Beach and Yacht Club FAQ: Don't Post Here! New Thread Now Open

That's great to hear coming from a Lobster Roll specialist like yourself :cheer2:

I will definitely tell DH about this, he has wanted to try one for quite sometime!!! (I wouldn't let him at Columbia Harbor House cause it looked quite disgusting!)

It was disgusting!

The lobster salad at HH tasted good, but it was really more of a seafood salad sandwich than a lobster salad! The key to all eating at disney: don't get your hopes up too much, and maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Yes, you would want to be close to the lobby. As you can see from this picture, there is nothing but air between the Yacht Club rooms and the Beach Club rooms. There are restaurants, the arcade, the health club, etc, between the two resorts on the lower levels.

Thank you! :)

I don't ask many questions because of this fabulous thing called search but I do have one for this group. I love the Disney popcorn. So much that DW calls it my crack, she is probably right. So where is the closet popcorn cart to BC?

There's a cart that sells popcorn (among a few other things) over at the Boardwalk. I think it's the cart that also sells funnel cakes and cotton candy.

Question for anyone at BCV now. Do they have any prices listed at the hair salon. Dd and I will be there in 2 weeks and 4 days ( not that I am counting) for SWW and thinking about getting a special hair do.

Last year, my Mom got her hair washed and styled. She loved it, but the cost was a bit steep - $50. But well worth it! Mom is of the generation of teased and heavily sprayed hair! I don't remember what the other prices were, but I'm sure they were more than what we would pay when we are not in the most wonderful world of Walt Disney!

It requires park admission but I know there is a Disney popcorn cart in Canada, which is only a short walk over from the BC. Often get my fox there before Illuminations.

And based on that write up by Ninja Mom, I will have to buy some of that Karmel Corn in Germany this summer. Admired it before but have to take the plunge this time.

Hello Teena...

It was nice to meet you again! Thank you for the wonderful conversation and advice throughout the parks and so forth. Hope we didn't overstay our welcome so to speak! Until next time, and of course here on the DIS! :thumbsup2
Mark and Marlow

Sounds delicious Kim! We are going to have to try that when we are there this summer. I am happy to hear that people have some good things to say about Captain's Grille since the lest PodCast review was so bad. I know it has been a while and I was hoping it would get better before our trip.

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards
We loved Captains Grille dinner, and this trip looking forward to breakfast. It's going to be a hard choice between that lemon ricotta thingy and the Buffett, may have to go twice, lol!

:thumbsup2 yay!!

Not yet Sue they are still testing them. I had to go to the area in between Test Track and Mexico (big building name is escaping me) with my paper ap to get the credit card type ap so I could use the ap at the tap and go entrance. Once inside the building they had all this archived stuff that they brought out and put on display very cool stuff.. then they had the display with the magic bands. They had me test my tap and go card and then told me that the bands would be released by the end of the year... I think August is pushing it, but who knows!! I'm hoping they'll be out for my late October early November trip!!

Back at work today... not liking it at all!! I decided while I was there not to book the bounceback for DH and my trip in September... I think we'll be fine at the Villa's! I did however eat way to much... I discovered the red velvet cupcakes at the Contemporary Cafe... Mmmm Mmmmm Mmmm!!! Anyway had a great time.. spent all day at Epcot taking pics of the flowers wasn't really overly crowded and I got some great shots and some not so great shots!! I met DD and DSIL in England for a drink and followed that drink up in France with a GGS. I met them on Saturday after their Keys tour and did some MK with them until their dinner at BOG. I hated the 8:20 pick up for the not so magical express Sunday morning, but I will be back in just 2 months at BCV!! :thumbsup2

~Nannette
:rotfl2: I had half a Red Velvet cupcake for dessert tonight (Costco)! Yum love both the slushies in France. A good reason to bring my mug :goodvibes.

Well, guess I'll have to get the card type Ap in August. Our APs expire a few days into our trip. I think maybe even check in day for YC, so IG will be handy to get our new APs. Maybe by then the Guest Setvices should have the CC type of APs. Really want that pink Magic Band though,

Sounds like you had a wonderful time. Makes it easier getting on the Magic Depress when you know you have a return date soon ::yes::

Just upgraded from POR to BC and moved my trip from Aug. to June! :cool1:
I'm so excited! Haven't stayed at BC in 3 yrs.
Congrats!

Got home last night from our 10 night YC CL stay!! We had a fantastic trip and really liked the YC. I posted a separate report thread if you want to check it out. If you have questions I can try to answer them! :goodvibes

Thanks everyone on this thread for all of the information provided leading up to our trip! :cool1:
Are you unpacked yet :rotfl:

First, let me say what a great group of people you all are- reading through this thread has gotten me so excited for my next trip to Disney and convinced me to try YC for the first time!!
We are booked 8/17-8/24 in a GV CL room at YC and we can't wait. I've had a couple of conversations with IPO and they were great both times. We got all our ADR requests and now I just have to sit back, wait, and keep reading this thread for the next 110 days.
One thing that I found interesting is that the IPO didn't have my contact info (including email address) and it was assumed that reason being that I booked through a TA. So....if you have booked CL through an TA, it may be smart to initiate contact rather than wait for an email from the IPO.
Thanks again for all the great info, trip reports and photos- keep 'em coming.
Glad you like it here!! Last August we stayed at AKL and I just sent IPO an email with my info. For some reason it seems to take awhile for them to get it, so seems easier to just contact them, I agree ::yes::

Oh my.......

I hate to be an 'enabler'.....

I don't know where the closest regular popcorn stand would be but did you know....

Ah... maybe I shouldn't.....

It ain't right after all. You'll get hooked like the rest of us. This thread is filled with Sunkin Treasure Junkies and lobster Roll-a-holics. Currently there is a movement underfoot to get people hooked on the lemon ricotta pancakes with blueberry compote and lemon curd at the Captain's Grille.

But what I'm holding back on is SOOOOoooooOOOOO good! Once you get some everything else will pale in comparison.

Ok move in a little closer, that's it, closer, closer. OK now listen carefully. Don't mention this to any one else and for God's sake don't put it out there on the internet! It's too addicting!!!!1!!1!!!!1111!!!!!

(Whispers) over at the Karmel Kutchen in Germany they have Carmel popcorn.
There I said it.
Shameful, I know!

Trust me, you will be instantly addicted. All and I mean ALL of your snack credits will go towards bags of the Devil's nuggets. You will hide the bag from your family and refuse to share with small children, perhaps even your own. It's about as bad as it can get.

Take an empty suitcase so you have room for all the bags you're gonna wanna bring back.

~NM
PS. There is NO CURE for KARMEL KUTCHIN KARMEL CORN!
Lets not forget their yummy choc. Karamel pecan squares too :goodvibes

Mark and Marlow

It was fantastic to see you!!!

It was disgusting!

Well...and there you have it!!! Seeing you are from the same area as Mousemommy AND you tried it, I'll take your word for it!!!

NM: IF I have room AFTER my chocolate/caramel covered pineapple spear, AND my dark chocolate sea salt covered caramel AND my pretzel I'll see about getting some of the caramel popcorn crack!!!

Those lemon-ricotta pancakes with blueberry compote and lemon curd are absolutely heavenly! :cloud9:
I haven't tried the Carmel popcorn, but I will stop by this trip. ::yes::

Still getting caught up! I have a little break today, sorta. No school today because of the primary election for senator in MA- voting is at one of our schools.

I know it is in here somewhere... 310 pages now...

But what is the approximate percentage of BC standard rooms that have 2 queen beds and a day bed?
With DW, DS, DD and myself, a daybed would be good.

Dee, are you going to the Dis Meet in June?

I don't think you missed the info. Not sure any of us really know how many or what percentage of rooms have daybeds.

If you are not able to get a room with a daybed, remember that you can request a rollaway cot, free of charge, when you check in. That's what I plan on doing.

Not sure about the Dis Meet in June. I'll try to keep up with the info on the thread there- still recovering from a VERY busy April, I haven't had a chance to think about much else, including my July vacation.

We are booked at YC for 8/24 to 9/1 this year. We were originally going to stay at POP (never stayed at a value resort before, but figured the savings would be worth it). We happened to find the great deal that others have mentioned and now we are able to stay at YC for only $250 more for 8 nights. Needless to say, we are ecstatic. We stayed at BC in 2011 and fell in love with the area...except for our awful neighbors that were up screaming at each other all night. So that leads to my question....are all of the rooms adjoining? We would prefer not to have that door since it seems to allow more noise from the neighbors. We are going for our delayed honeymoon with no children and would live to have quiet.

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list.

I don't think all rooms have connecting doors- anyone know?

One suggestion somebody posted was to put a rolled up towel on the floor under the door to cut down on noise.

Hopefully that was just a very unlucky placement of neighbors. If you happen to get into a similar situation on future stays, I would suggest talking to someone at the front desk to see if you can be moved. OR maybe get assurance that the neighbors are checking out soon.

In my two stays at the resort, I haven't been bothered by noise next door, and I have not heard many complaints from others who have stayed.

Only bad thing was that Bob tripped and fell Friday on the dock at Castaway. He bloodied up his wrists and knees ... nothing bad ... but it looks as if his left (and he's left handed naturally) wrist is more than just bruised. He can't move it today ... can't even hold a pen and write ... and it's huge. We've been icing it. I think I finally talked him into going to the ER tomorrow for x-rays instead of waiting until his doctor is in on Monday. His new supply of vodka is helping though.

How is Bob doing?

How are you?

Just returned from BC. 6 nights in a Garden View Club level room. Had a FANTASTIC time. I'm organizing my thoughts and will post a review with a video of our room view a little later. Did all the parks via Disney transportation (no issues) , 6 TS restaurants, several great QS meals as well. Ended our trip with the Terrace Dessert Party at MK (highly recommend). The BC pool is to die for. I'm exhausted from this vacation. More to follow.

PS...We had a new towel animal creation each day from Mousekeeping that I took pics of as well. My kids loved these.

Thanks for the great review and pictures!!!

So I am planning on staying at the BC or YC Summer of 2014 (yeah I know it's like a year away...) I'm super excited. Anyway, with the BC I know that there is a limited amount of balconies right? Is there a way to request or find a way to insure that when you make your reservation you'll get a balcony? (the person I am going with wants a balcony pretty badly, when we were at Aulani it was one of her favorite things about the room.)

How fast does the BC and/or YC fill up? When we went last year to WDW we stayed at POR and were able to find a room 3 weeks before going, I don't know if that's an option with Deluxe Resorts.

And what view is your favorite at either resort? I know we don't want a standard view, but were wondering how others felt about the other options :)

Never too early for planning! Let me know if you would like to be pencilled in on the Be Our Guest list for 2014. We have a handful of prospective guests there already.

As Teena responded, no way to guarantee a full balcony at BC unfortunately-so your best bet may be a room at YC. (CT Disney does suggest that the BC GV CL rooms all have full balconies- don't know if you are looking at a standard room or club level reservation)

The value of view vs. cost is a subjective call. GV at both resorts is usually just a few dollars more per night than SV. WV is significantly more. I have a couple of threads started in the Resort Photo Sub forum with samples of views from the different room categories to give some idea of the different views.

I think I remember reading that all the BC GV CL rooms had full balconies? I'm not sure, so I'm hoping someone else can confirm this...

Yes.

It was disgusting!

Hey stranger! How have you been! Were you able to spend April vacation visiting in Florida?

Just clarifying- are you referring to the CHH lobster roll as disgusting? I have not heard great reviews.

There is a new lobster roll (actually seafood salad roll) at Hurricane Hanna's and at the Boardwalk Bakery. We are getting mixed signals on that.

Well...and there you have it!!! Seeing you are from the same area as Mousemommy AND you tried it, I'll take your word for it!!!

Hi natebenma

We returned last weekend from another lovely YC CL stay where we were amazingly pixie dusted with an upgrade to the Presidential Suite! pixiedust:

Do you have any interest in pix for the thread or your files? I'd be happy to provide you with some if you think you would. :goodvibes

We loved everything about YC CL! The CM's there are just so special. My kids have really gotten close to several of them. ::yes::

Two weeks from today Jim and I will be at the Yacht Club.:cool1: We are still in California visiting our daughter and her family. Plying with two grandsons is wearing us out! Cannot wait to have a nice relaxing trip in 2 weeks!:hyper::thumbsup2:cool1:

Thanks for asking this Dee: I was assuming she meant at BWBakery....but now that you mention it maybe she was talking about the one at CHH???

I was thinking of getting Kayla Surfing Lessons at Typhoon Lagoon, but was concerned with waiting until our vacation starts. So I got them pre-trip. My husband thinks I'm too reckless with our only child. I think they only live once...

Here's a photo:

Surfing Lessons! by Disneyslave, on Flickr

AWESOME picture!!!

It has been a crazy couple of weeks and have not been able to get on to post a proper thank you to all of you who answered my questions from a few weeks back. Shortly after I posted, I was overwhelmed by sick kids, a flooded basement and life in general. I haven't even been able to think about disney. :( I would like to say it is calming down but the next couple of weeks seem just as Crazy. I would do quotes but my posts are so far back, I'm not sure I could find them anymore.

Dee- On the BOG list...we will be there June 3-9 YC GV. I will be doing online check in a week or two and will let you know the check in options are for YC. We booked through a TA and I want to make sure our requests are correct with him first. We requested a day bed and a microwave, but I don't think I want the microwave anymore. I'm not sure what location I want to be in. I guess I see what options come up and put my fate in Disney's hands on that one.

36 days...sigh

Hope things start to settle down for you! Thanks for the clarification on your dates.

We are coming to WDW for our first ever trip June 24-July 5 and we are doing a split stay, half at the BC and half at the poly. We have a pool or lagoon view room at the BC and I was just wondering if we will in fact see a pool or the lagoon? Are we guaranteed that? Or could we possibly have a different view? Ay thoughts? Thank you!!

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list.

:cool1:

Yes, I believe with a WV room you will have a view of the lagoon or a pool (could be SAB or one of the quiet pools). If you don't, you certainly have the right to ask why not.

I just found this awesome thread! I'm usually over on the cruise thread but thought I'd check out some WDW threads and hear you are. We've stayed four or five times at the Beach Club and absolutely love it. We will being staying there, hopefully 10-12 to 10-17 for the Food and Wine Fest.

What a nice chatty group you all are. I'm looking forward to reading all of your interesting post.

We usually just book a Standard room and see what happens.

I have a question, I was reading the FAQ post and it mentioned something about Magic Bands and Fast Pass Plus? We haven't been to WDW in a few years, we've been cruising. What are these things?

:welcome: to dry land! Glad you are enjoying this thread.

Should I pencil you in on the Be Our Guest list for October?

:yay:

That's a good question about the Magic Bands and Fast Pass Plus. I admit that I have not been paying nearly enough attention to these things, especially since I have a trip in a couple of months. Although not really sure when these things will be implemented.

This is what I think these things are- folks, correct me if I am wrong:

Magic Bands- replaces your Key to World will be silicone-like bracelets that you wear- you will be able to get into your room, the parks and utilize your dining credits. Does that sound right?

Fast Pass Plus- currently under limited testing- you can pre-select a few FP attractions/times before your trip. Say, " Space Mountain, 9-10 am, BTM 1-2 pm, Splash Mtn, 3-4 pm" I think a few people here have been part of the testing.

Just back from my trip. Over all it was a great trip and the Yacht Club was also great. .

Thanks for the review of your room and your dining at Captain's Grille and Yachtsman.

I don't suppose you have any food porn to go along with your descriptions???

We just upgraded from Coronado Springs to Beach Club! This thread is full of great info!

:welcome:

mid-August or Sept trip? Would you like to be added to the Be Our Guest list on page 1? Let us know if you have any questions.

:woohoo:

Is there a price list for the spa/hair salon in the rooms? Does anyone have a copy or pictures?

Thanks for the helpful suggestion about proactively contacting IPO. Here's the email address. Only use this if you have a confirmed CL reservation:

With exactly four weeks to go until our first Beach Club stay, I wanted to say hi and thanks to everyone for the great information and fun topics. Secret doors, sunken treasures, lobster rolls, Tom Collins, beautiful grandchildren, bottle water, request priorities, the list is endless.

It has really been fun trying to keep up with it all. We stayed Poly CL in 2007 and 2011 and are looking forward to compare and contrast BC CL. We'll be there 5/27-6/1 BC SV CL. Hopefully my ticker shows that correctly.

I don't ask many questions because of this fabulous thing called search but I do have one for this group. I love the Disney popcorn. So much that DW calls it my crack, she is probably right. So where is the closet popcorn cart to BC?

:welcome:

Glad you are enjoying the friendly thread. Um, thanks for your question. Now craving caramel popcorn!
