2012 - What do you think will happen?

Im on Playstation Home right now and saw a movie trailer called 2012. Its a movie based on events thats is "supposed" to happen in 2012. What do you think will happen? Do you believe the world will come to an end 12/21/12 or maybe just some big change will occur, etc.?

The "prophecy" is a misinterpretation of the Mayan Calendar. The Mayan Calendar is cyclical and we are nearing the end of the third cycle, as in, it has already cycled twice before. The cycle restart of the cycle does not mark the end of the world but rather a fundamental shift in humanity around the change. This is highly possible given the rapidly changing state of technology.

The world will not actually end and those that interpret it that way are in no way experts on the Mayan culture. They are taking relatively scant information and spinning it to fit their beliefs.

Life rolled on without noticing the change on a man-made calendar...I think it will do the same in 2012.

Except...I just realized...my older DD will get her driver's license that year...so maybe life WILL come to an end!

Yeah I agree with others who say nothing is gonna happen. What I do predict though is that the Apocalypse will not end the world. People will destroy it before the Apocalypse even happens. You have terrorists who wanna destroy and kill us all, you have scientists who wanna run the Hadron Collider and bring up black holes and either suck the earth into a black hole or other unknown things may happen, . Plus Global Warming which is melting glaciers to a point it may look like The Day After Tomorrow . So yeah, at this point, the world may come to an end on December 21, 2012. And it will be mankind who destroys it.

Oh man, I remember that all to well. I kept saying nothing is gonna happen. But of course everyone was making a huge deal about it. I was a senior in HS in 1999/2000. And my school was flipping out trying to get all the computers ready for Y2K.

I think we're going to have the same results as we did when we went to the year 2000.

Some marketers picked up on the frenzy and made loads of money making business networks Y2K ready and selling generators for when out electrical systems all fail.

Then the ball in Times Square dropped and we all realized our phones worked because we could call family and then we were sad when we realized we really did have to go to work tomorrow.

Yeah that trailer is crazy and I cant wait to see it. Of course its gonna create a huge hype, people are gonna see it, start talking about it and worry even more. I just love how they make all these world disaster movies, trying to predict what would actually happen and they bring in the big bucks, and here we are in 2009 and the only disasters you hear are Tornado's, Hurricanes, Earthquakes, Volcano Eruptions and Tsunamis. I'm surprised they haven't tried making a movie about Hurricane Katrina or something. I wonder what the next disaster movie will be about.

Who knows nowadays.
