2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ ~ March, April and May ~Do Not Post Here-Old Thread

Aw, shucks. When I saw a "fall" date for this opening, I thought we"d be in like Flynn with our December 1-8 dates. :sad2: I really want to do this. Wonder when they"ll start taking ADRs? 180 days out from the expected opening, or not until closer so they can be more sure it'll be ready?

After reading various things all day today (and conversations on our Oct Diser FB page), the consensus seems to be that it's still possible for an Oct opening. The blog which posted the info about the opening today really just says that there will be "lots to celebrate" for the holidays, not that it's opening at the holidays. So we're thinking that maybe it will be open in the fall and they're just saying that because fall leads into the holidays. So we shall see! We've stepped back from the panic button. LOL

Nope they do not connect. There is an outside walkway that is covered (in case of rain). The walkway runs by Beaches & Cream, the Arcade, Periwigs and the Health Club.

Is Periwigs the bar? It's such an odd name for a bar. Disney has a lot of goofy names but that takes the cake.

Wow this board moves fast! (or maybe I'm just moving too slow these days).

I keep meaning to go back through all the posts so I can join back in the conversation in a meaningful way, but then I get side-tracked.

Maybe it is just easier to join in on the most current conversation.

You will love the BC or YC. We stayed there in March and loved it. In theory I'm writing a trip report but it is taking me more time than I thought to get it finished. I'll try to post another installment before the end of this weekend.

As for which resort to stay at... I'd say book two rooms, one at YC and one at BC.:lmao: Depending on who is fighting with who you can stay with your favourite that day at one resort and make the rest of the family stay at the other. Then you can meet at SAB each day where it is so wonderful that everyone will be happy!

Be sure to find some time for a lunch or snack at Beaches and Cream. Mmmm, mmmm, mmmm.

That sounds like a deal! I have thought up a plan where I confiscate the room key cards and pretend like I am off to get fast passes, only I just keep walking until I get to the room first for some peace and quiet. When we stay off property the extra room affords us demilitarized zones with the kitchen as the U.N. There is also that split stay deal where you split and don't tell them where you are staying!

This weekend I will try to read up on the thread so I don't sound like such a dim bulb. DH and I were just talking (out of ear shot of the kids) and he really wants to stay where that pool is at. We will have to look at the numbers and consider dropping the kids from the trip... but then that would be cruel so maybe not. In any case staying near that pool might be the ultimate in behavioral modification incentives for our kids.

Hello Friends,
I've been away from the boards for almost a year now. I'm not going this year (the first time in 11 years) and it's killing me. I knew I wouldn't be able to stand it if I kept coming back to my favorite thread on the disboards.

Robin: Glad your Mom is doing better.

Teena: Hope Lilly is growing like a weed!!!

We're just now starting to talk about a major trip for our extended family next summer. The main focus will be my then 3 year old niece. Planning is just beginning, hence back to the disboards.

I can't believe I won't make the 3rd annual Dis meet this summer. I've been to #1 and #2. Please know that I'll be there in spirit.

I'll be lurking from this point on. Glad to see the old gang again!!

I can't believe you won't be there for the meet. You will be missed big time.

I'm on my way soon for some Princess Lily time ... I fly out of here on 5/8. Can't wait!

Ok spent the night catching up on the past few days.... two glasses of wine later I have a few questions :)

1) Is it easy to catch a cab from the YC? I saw that there are some waiting in the parking lot but do they pull up to the lobby like most hotels? I'm interested in catching one for DTD and some of the water parks. I did jot down the number that was recommended but was wondering if we always had to schedule it in advance, or if there were ones always waiting from the resort.

2) I understand and appreciate that the pool checks room keys on a daily basis. However, my parents are staying at Port Orleans during our trip. Do you think they would be allowed to use the pool if they enter it with us, or would they be denied? Our current room scheme only has 3 people, so technically would the hotel charge us to add 2 extras on so that they could use the pool? I don't want to "scam" the system but just want to figure out if Nana and Grandpa can see their grandson swim for a day while we are there. Thanks in advance!!!

Just tell the Valet you need a cab and they get it for you. The cabs are not allowed to hang out by the front door so they wait in the parking lot.

No, sorry, Nana and Grandpa cannot get into SAB. If you add two adults to your reservation, you will charged for each adult after the first two adults. However, Nana and Grandpa are welcome to use the quiet pools.

If you are going to spend the money and add your parents onto your reservation, it must be done before you check in. Once you check in, it's a major problem to add guests to your room to get "real keys". It's easy to add them as day guests but then they get day guest keys and those keys will not allow them into SAB. To me it would not be worth $25 per person extra to add them to your reservation for each night. I'd just all go to the quiet pool.

Wow ask and you shall receive, thanks so much Teena!

I agree with you... for the chance that they may be able to meet us at the pool it wouldn't be worth it to add them to the reservation. I'm sure they would be fine with going to the quiet pools with us if we find the opportunity. I honestly think we are going to be so busy that it might not even work out, so I appreciate your informative response!

Thanks for clarifying the taxi situation as well!

ps- is it too early for a May activity calendar?

I'm sure it will be out this weekend. I go in on Sunday but I don't have a scanner. I think Dee always gets it from another site and posts it.

About the May schedule, IPO is going to email it to me as soon as it comes out. Depending on WiFi, I'll get it to Dee. They tell me they won't get it until May 1st... We are arriving May 1st and I am deleting my email from my phone because of the international data roaming charges (but keeping data for my wait times and Lines app! and BBM. LOL). Hopefully the wifi isn't as bad as some people have indicated...

And in Micker news, there is DEFINITELY some space between my Mickey pushpin and SSE!

Does that really say THREE DAYS? Definitely calls for a

Welcome back YC Fan! All that year you've been gone I've been waiting for this trip since I remember you and your awesome pirate celebration well!

Glad to see you have a sense of humor in your posts (at least I think that was what I was reading?). You'll fit in great here. Take a lot of time reviewing page one. Show DH (that's "dear husband" for those wondering) the pictures on page one and remind him that the ESPN bar is only a five minute walk around the lake. Once the kids are in the loop, show them the SAB pictures on page one (especially the slide) and you will be able to exercise "behavioral modification" all summer. Happy planning

It's been fun reading your posts and watching Mickey slide up and into SSE and then the race to the finish between your push pin and Dee's monorail giving Mickey the goose. I'd say you won! Congratulations and have a great trip. I can't wait for the full report.

It has been a busy week, so I haven't had the chance to welcome our new friends!

:welcome:

We are getting in late (6 pm arrival at airport) and our one room request at BC is a daybed (2 kids can't share beds).
I didn't even try requesting a full balcony since I really want the daybed. Our plan B is a rolling cot.

Does checking in late pose any possible problems in getting either the daybed or the cot?

Thanks!

Would you like to be added to the Be Our Guest list on Page 1? Let us know the dates of your trip. :cool1:

Now I've called Disney twice on this question about a daybed and needing to request one and have been told twice that I don't need to request because we have 5 people in our party and we will automatically be given a daybed. The second time I called I was asked what room category we booked and I told them garden and the person said that we will be given a daybed.

Is this true? I sure hope so.

I have you on the list for June, no dates. :thumbsup2

Hey all! I am a wee bit of a coffee snob and I was wondering about the coffee situation at BCV? I like strong and flavorful coffee. Is there anywhere not too far of a walk where I could get a good cuppa in the morning? Thanks in advance!

Do you have a trip planned? Would you like to be added to "The" List? :goodvibes

We'll be staying at BCV Oct 6 - 13.

Our Waitlist came through a few days ago. We're so excited! It's our 2nd BCV visit. The first was Oct 2010. We're feeling very fortunate to have the chance to stay again.

SAB and Epcot, here we come! :)

Hooray! :yay: Adding you.

Which side would be better for 2 teenagers the Beach or Yacht?
where do you refill the mugs at either resort

Let us know if you end up here at the Yacht or Beach. :)

:banana::banana::banana:

So after many many changes.....I will be at Beach club in less than 1 month....dee I am still on the guest list for YC :lmao:

 OOPS! I'll make that change now.

Our family will be staing at the BC for the first time in August. I keep reading that the Y&BC have poor counter service options and I'm wondering why that is? It looks to me that the Marketplace has a pretty decent selection, not to mention Hurrican Hanna's. Am I missing something here?

Welcome!

Two words: Mickey Waffles. You can't get 'em at the Marketplace or any of the QS in the EPCOT resorts.

But you are correct that the Marketplace and HH both offer lots of great choices and being steps from EPCOT also opens a whole new world of dining opportunities!

If any of you are concerned with the CS offerings, we have an awesome thread all about the Marketplace and other Quick Serve Options.

Hi everyone!

There is a YC stay planned for July for a conference.

:welcome:

Let us know your dates if you would like to be added to the list.

:woohoo:

We have never stayed at a deluxe, on property resort before. I was searching for a walking path between Disney's Hollywood Studios and the ESPN restaurant at the boardwalk when I discovered all the resorts between DHS and Epcot. Once my husband got a peep at that pool he showed the kids and now all 4 of them are pressuring me to check out the Boardwalk area hotels. We could never afford to do the whole stay there so it would have to be a split stay as far as I'm concerned. I've priced it out and I have a few questions.

Don't be shy about asking us any questions about the resorts. There is a great wealth of knowledge here! :goodvibes

Glad to have you back checking on things! There are other ways to participate in the meet even if you can't be there in person! :rotfl:

So is the plan that the two girls get together with the two boys in the Sandcastle club while the moms get together over a grey-goose slushie in Paris while the dad's hang out at the pub?

I like the way your mind works!! :)

Kinda a dumb question perhaps.... but do the lobbies of BC and YC connect?

Not a dumb question at all! In fact, it has been asked a couple of times in the last few weeks, so that makes it a Frequently Asked Question. I'll write up something for the FAQ when I have a chance.

Just back from a wonderful trip to BC CL. My first time staying CL at BC and it was wonderful. We were in room 5717 and this is the view from our room overlooking SAB.

Thanks for giving us the review of your stay and all of the great pictures, especially the one that generated so much discussion.

Since this is a family board, pay no attention to the suggestively dancing bananas!

:banana::banana::banana:

First of all - thank you, thank you, thank you for all your prayers and well wishes. Things are definitely looking much better!

Dee - I always thought that ASMovies was just sooo Disney! I'm sure you and your merry band will have a blast!!! Do you still get to do ADRs or do you all eat together? My oldest DD went to Florida on her high school trip - there weren't any "value resorts" then so they stayed off-site. They did Disney (MK AND MGM), Universal and Sea World. They had a blast and I'm sure your son and his friend will too!!! Can't wait to read that trip report.

Robyn- thanks for update on your mom. I hope she continues to improve and feel well!

I'm looking forward to the stay. We stayed at ASMusic, but Movies looks more interesting.

No ADRS. We will be eating Counter Service, but that is ok, because I really love a lot of the QS places, and my son agrees with me about which ones are best, so I am going to have him lead the way.

:sad1:

In that case, I recommend an orange juice slush from Sunshine Tree Terrace. And since it is served in the MK, you know it is alcohol-free. :thumbsup2

Great suggestion! I am also a big fan of the smoothies at Auntie Gravity.

You Win!

I concede defeat.

Darn that slow monorail!

Boy....I go away from the boards for 24 hours and WOW can we post some pages!!!

Welcome to all our new friends :cool1: You will LOVE getting to know everyone here.

Looks like we have a few posters about to leave................have a great trip!!

My ticker is quickly ticking away, I can't believe the trip will be here so soon.

Ninja Mom I would say do whatever you have to do with your budget, BC/YC is the BEST resort to stay at!!! Your kids will love SAB.
