2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ ~ March, April and May ~Do Not Post Here-Old Thread

Thanks again, Teena. So glad people here are aware of the situation and can plan accordingly. You are an incredible person, willing to bridge the gap between the resort and this group with a positive attitude and a can-do spirit.

To those who are directly impacted, hugs to you. I'm very much hoping for the best vacation for each of you. My heart actually hurts for those of you who are so upset. We spend a lot of money to make these trips special, and it is frustrating when circumstances beyond our control send us skating sideways. Big hugs.

Worst night sleep....no idea what to do!! Considering switching to Poly. I know the pool is smaller and does get crowded, but based on the scenario at SAB, what's open will be crowded and BWI pool will too. At least this way we can be at one resort, with a pool and slide for our kids! Just don't know.....

DH suggested we have a few mai tai's tonight and then decide!!

I think the mai tais are an excellent idea. Let us know if they inspire any fabulous ideas!

I'm back from a wonderful stay at the YC! It is an amzaing resort and we had a wonderful time.

I will get started on my trip report as soon as our renovations settle down.

JanetMom- thanks for your mini review. I look forward to reading your full-blown trippie! Please give us a heads up when you start.

I am all set with the March schedule, Tisha in PA provided one while you were away. But thank you!

Ditto.

Very nice message of empathy shellbelle76!

Best wishes to everyone impacted by the news who are making decisions about how to proceed.

:grouphug: Thank you so much - that is very nice of you!:goodvibes

You don't have to move the luggage. Just get it packed, call Bell Services and have them pick it up. They will transfer it to your new resort. No charge. And I'd just wear over my bathing suit to the new resort and as soon as I got there, I'd spend the day at their pool. The bags will arrive around 3-4 PM. When you get to your room at the new resort, just call Bell Services there and tell them to bring up your transferred luggage.

Hi Teena! We're bringing our luggage in the cab with us when we switch from POFQ to YC next month, but next year, we're relying on Bell Services. I know we have to be in the room for Bell Services to deliver our luggage, but do we have to be in the room for them to pick it up?

Also I feel sorry for you and all the other cms during the pool construction - not our BC/YC thread family, but I'm sure other guests will have the "blame the cms" attitude. For them to do this maintenance during spring break, to me, means they definitely found something that needs their attention right away.

Once again, "ditto" to what Robyn said! We'll be sure to bring extra cheer!

As a somewhat aside from the whole quandary of the huge SAB closure during our stay, my oldest has been wanting to know if it's possible to swim laps in the quiet pools (she's a competitive swimmer and worried about staying in shape while on vacation). Anyone do this? Are they large enough? Unfortunately, if they are, they may be too crowded with over 50% of SAB closed :(

Sigh. Still wondering what to do. Again, we could totally deal with "just" a slide closure and such, but to have such a large area drained....

So thankful we know about it (haven't received a letter yet).

But if anyone has swum laps before and likes doing so in the quiet pools, pls let me know. Thx!

Wee Annie, I swim laps in the BC quiet pool! It's amazingly quiet in the morning hours and I just love it. I know Teena already provided some info, but I just wanted to add that even though there are no lane lines in the quiet pool, I feel like it's big enough and shaped well for lap swimming.

We have not yet received a letter from Disney and we are booked from 4/13 - 4/21 at BC. Have you all received letters?!?!??

brajfamily, I have not received my letter yet, but I've seen the text of the letter that another guest received on another thread. I'll bet it's in our mail today.

Also wanted to respond to the question about whether those of us who enjoyed SAB during slide/partial closures experienced a more limited closure.
Yes, our February 2011 slide/partial closure was more limited so I understand this will have a larger impact. As I mentioned earlier, we're fine with the upcoming closure and will enjoy the other areas of the pool.

Nope. And I booked my ressie myself.

Sigh. Scratching head. Trying to figure out how to make the best of a disappointing situation. There's always a way....

We get there a few days after you and have not gotten a letter yet.

Has anyone made a decision to switch? I am so torn, I actually lost sleep last night (ashamed to admit it :guilty:).

Ugh! What a rotten situation. :sad2: I am so sorry to hear the extent of the pool closure. I feel so bad for all of you. This is not just a slide closure. We stay at YC every year & the area that will be closed is what I think of when you say "Storm Along Bay". There is no way the small 3 -4 foot deep section connected to the lazy river can accommodate many people. That area is very small. So basically anyone who tries to use Storm Along will be in the lazy river or the kiddie area.

Teena didn't mention it, but I would imagine all the pool activities will also be cancelled, unless they get moved to a quiet pool. There is nowhere open that will fit the volleyball or other pool games.

I'm sure there must be something seriously wrong with the pool & its' filtration system. I don't believe the management would close the pool at this time of the year if there was any way to avoid it. Doesn't make it any easier to take tho. We don't arrive til the middle of May, but this news has me nervous, too. When we first started hearing about " pool work" being done back in Dec / Jan , we never imagined it would lead to this. Who knows what else will happen & how long it will go on. :confused3

Good luck to all of you who have to decide on keeping or changing plans. I hope you all have wonderful vacations despite all this.

No letter here, either.

And Teena, I hope you don't think my anger at Disney is directed anywhere near you. You're awesome and I wouldn't have even found out about this pool closure if it wasn't for you going out of your way to find out for us.

But if we weren't hanging out on these boards, we all STILL wouldn't know anything about this. I do fault the Disney powers-that-be for that.

But flights are booked and there's nothing I can do about it now...

I guess we'll try to hang out at the quiet pools and hope they're not too crowded, or at least try to spend a little time in that middle section of SAB (we do love the sandy bottom... helps soothe the tired feet).

Two questions, if anyone knows... is there a quieter time at the pools? I'm thinking maybe 11a-1p because most people are at parks? I'm thinking later afternoon is busier because people use that as their down time between morning and evening park visits.

Also, Teena, do they ever finish things like this early in your experience (fingers crossed)? We're leaving on Monday the 23rd, the day construction is scheduled to end. If somehow they were able to finish a couple of days early and get it up and running that weekend, I'd be a happier camper.

Again, Teena, thanks for everything you do for us here on the boards.

Quick question for anyone who has been for MNSHHP.

We had thought we'd have dinner at Cape May, then head back to our rooms to change into costumes then go to the party. Obviously, given the dinner time at Cape May, we would be late for the party. Should we change our plans and maybe do a late lunch (somewhere else since it looks like Cape May doesn't do lunch) on our MNSSHP day and get to the party early? Will we miss out on things if we show up late or will we still enjoy it just as much?

saquin, we've found the quiet pools to be especially quiet in the early morning (before SAB opens at 10am.) But I've never seen them particularly busy at any time of day (although the SAB partial closure may have an impact.) For our last two BC stays (February 2011 and August 2011) our rooms overlooked the quiet pool, so I could see it at various times of the day. Always looked nice and quiet!

As for finishing early, I think they did finish the rehab work early in February 2011. It was planned rehab, so that may be different.

Ok guys.. I just happened upon this thread. I got info from a friend Saturday night. I called BC.cast member there transferred metro help desk. Help desk person told me the refurb is being done now and should only last 2 weeks and it won't be done while I am there.. Any truth to this?

I wanted to update since you have all been so kind with sharing your thoughts/experieces/good wishes about the work at SAB - thanks for being a safe and kind place for me to stress out:scared:! We just switch our reservation to the GF. It was not an easy decision by any means as we were so very much looking forward to our stay at the BC:sad1: - but I think it's best for us to save BC for another trip.

I wanted to wish all the best to everyone else who is impacted by this:goodvibes.

It sounds to me like the desk people STILL don't know or aren't telling people about this April closure. From what people have said here, there is other refurbishment being done now at the other end of the pool that will be done soon (much less disruptive, no pool closure) and it sounds to me like that's what the person you spoke to is thinking of.

I think we'll be doing the same to Poly.....if there are any rooms left by tonight! Either way, we will all have a great time. Just need to change our thinking and get psyched about our "new" trips!

BTW, I like the new ticker!!

No letter for us yet either. We check in on 4/19.

Does it say somewhere on the Disney website that SAB will be closed? Just curious how one would find out if not for the boards. I'm assuming it's somewhere just don't know where.....probably the same place my letter is!!!

I heard about it first on facebook before there was any news posted here. A couple friends who are Disney travel agents read about it on a travel agent website. They said it was posted there last Monday night.

We check out on the 22nd so I'm crossing my fingers for an early completion too, but not holding my breath!

I'm wondering about the busiest times for the pool too... We could plan our days accordingly.

Good for you! I am glad you were able to switch to another resort. And GF to boot! :goodvibes Like I said above, I am getting worried, even tho we don't arrive til May 15. I just don't have a lot of confidence in the management's statements at this point. :sad2: I am wondering if we should switch to GF too. Luckily I'll have a few weeks after the construction end date to see what happens.

Have a wonderful vacation! :goodvibes

Is there any work being done at GF that would cause the monorail to close down again in April? I was thinking that if we switched, it would be our luck that they would shut down the monorail on us!

Did either of you have discounts that they were able to carry over to the new reservation? I used the 35% AP discount that is no longer valid... would they let me use that if we decide to switch?

I've gone back & forth so many times... We really want to stay at BC but DH is pretty unhappy about the situation. The prices for GF & Poly are higher than what we are currently paying. I guess I need to call.

How big are the pools at the GF & Poly?

We have done MNSSHP several times. Did you know you can get in early with your party ticket? Usually about 4 PM. We have never arrived after the party starts. We have eaten at GF then take the monorail over by 6:30 or so. Another time we ate at Tony's before the party started. They actually had a special "bat cake" dessert especially for the party. You won't really miss anything by getting there late, but you pay a lot for the ticket. The party is only 5 hours anyway. Why waste any of it? Are there any restaurants you'd like to try at MK? Try to get an ADR for 5:30 or 6 & you can be done in time to enjoy the whole party.

Thanks! And best of luck to you with the switch! We were caught between GF and Poly but went with GF because we just did Poly last year and I felt the "look" of GF was more similar to what I'd been picturing being at BC (I know, kinda silly but that's how my mind works). Let us know how you make out:goodvibes.

Thank you for the well wishes! I will keep my fingers crossed that they stick to the schedule so that everything is up and running for your trip.

How big are the pools at the GF & Poly?

I totally hear you with the monorail - that was a concern for me too. There is work being done on the new DVC between the beach and the wedding pavilion. But I figured as much of a bummer as that would be (ugh, my luck, right?) at least they can swap out transportation. Last time we stayed at GF it was January so not alot of pool time but the pool was very nice - we actually used the non-feature pool the whole time and thought that was the main pool :rotfl:! We didn't realize there was a whole other pool with a slide and all. Of course it doesn't have the fun features of SAB but the setting is beautiful and it is pretty large. The pool at Poly isn't as big and we were there in warm weather and did at times find it crowded.

We had a discount on our BC room (Spring room offer). It's still running so yes, we were able to get a discount on GF but still ended up having a balance to pay to make up the difference.

When we booked BC we got a 35% off AP discount which is not available now. If we switch to Poly Does anyone know if we would get that discount applied still? I want to call but can't right now.....
