I am a DVC owner at AK Kadani... I can tell you that there are people who stay there on a cash basis.... they would be allowed to use any parts of the resort including the pool. I hear what you are saying about the dues... I pay very high dues because there is a lot of upkeep to be done at the AK resort... Animals and such and yes that is part of the dues! The bottom line is until (and I hope this doesn't happen) Disney posts people to enforce whatever the rules are things won't change. The reality of it all is do we really know who should be in the "DVC only spaces" and who shouldn't when we are there? As long as they aren't causing trouble or being loud who cares if they sit there?!?! The only way to really control it is to have it completely DVC... where ALL areas of the DVC resort are card access only... That won't happen I hope!

Just my 2 cents! Now back to your regularly scheduled chat!!

~Nannette

I understand about cash paying guests having access to all facilities and well they should. And I agree as long as there isn't additional wear and tear due to use/abuse it isn't an issue. But if my OOP costs go up, that is a different issue for me.
Since BLT is the newest DVC, and it is key card controlled, this may indeed be the wave of the future of DVC. We will have to see what they do at the VGF.

Another DVC-BCV owner here. I think the main issue at BLT that caused the BLT pool area to be key card access to those staying at BLT only was space. The BLT pool is small, not really even big enough to support BLT, but they had a space issue, not enough room to make a larger pool area.

I agree that I would not want ALL areas of DVC villas to be kept locked, and key card access only. I don't really care to vacation at a "compound." I truly hope that isn't the wave of the future.

I have no idea. It just seemed to make sense for us. We won't really need the mugs since we'll have the lounge. As far as dining choices, many of the places that I wanted to eat are not buffets, so my daughter and I should be able to share a meal and not be so wasteful. Seemed that saving money in some of those manners would help me justify the additional cost of CL.:cool1: Since our kids are younger, it will be nice for my husband to step down the hall with them when they're ready and feed them while I'm still getting dressed, too!

Yep, I totally get that!! Thanks so much for insight and everybody for that matter :) CL won't happen for this trip, but I'm thinking the next one, definitely!!

Hi everyone, just booked a garden view room at the Yacht Club for the last full week of April. My flight in is late (at least for me) so I don't think I will get to the resort until after 8pm. Will my room be OK? I'm a little afraid I'll get stuck at the back end of beyond. I had a room once at the Beach Club that if you took a couple more steps you were in the Yacht Club. And the hike to the elevator was horrible. That long hike at the end of the day can seem like it takes forever. Just wanted a little reassurance. Thanks.

Be sure to add "Close to Elevators" as a request. That should help (and of course, not guarantee) keep you toward the center of the resort. I would not do online checkin and inquire about your room location at checkin. They can show you a map and if you do not like the location they will accomodate a change if possible. Hope this helps.

If you would like to be added to the guest list on page one give us your stay dates and Dee will gleefully add your name!

I guess the "concern" over use/abuse could go both ways, hotel and vacation club. ;)

Now back to happy Beach and Yacht Club Resort vacation planning.

Good Morning MickeyT..

In the absence of Dee and since you are keeping the list.. please add me to the September list! My 7 month window was this morning... DH will be joining me for his FIRST trip to Disney World! I wanted to stay at the Boardwalk since he isn't much of a beach person, but enjoys the Coney Island boardwalk... but alas there were no studios available, so I was FORCED to book BCV!!!! I wait listed Boardwalk but I might just cancel that since I would rather be at BCV!

We will be at BCV 9/18-9/22 :cool1::banana::banana::banana:

Now back to packing for Thursdays trip to Saratoga Springs Resort!!

Thank you!

We have done the DP every time we have gone before, but we have children under 10 and we do lots of character meals. However, each year, the plan gets more expansive and I feel you have to really analyze how to "save" with the dining plan. Each increase makes it more difficult to do that. I will give people one more thing to consider - something not many people think about. What happens if one member or more becomes ill? You do not get reimbursed for missed meals and missing just one meal seriously IMO jeopardizes the value of the dining plan. In December, we had 4 members of our family ill throughout the week. We often just brought food back to the room for the healthy ones or sent only part of our crew to our ADRs. The last night, we had to order room service just to use up TS credits and we had CS credits left over. Had we not been on the meal plan, that would have been one less thing to worry about. I believe we are done with the dining plan, but each person has to do the research for their group as to whether it works for them.

I agree with you on this. Our last trip we had the dining plan and a stomach bug went through everyone in the family. I had to cancel one of our TS reservations and it was our last night there, so I didn't have an opportunity to make it up. We definitely lost out on that trip. We planning to go oop this time around.

I'm not there but I was watching. Jon Cryer said he is staying at a resort where the pool has a sand bottom. :thumbsup2

I heard the same thing! Yay Beach Club!

We had a similar issue on our last trip. It was free dining at least so I didn't really lose money, but I got very sick just 2 days into the trip. We had 1TS planned each day and had to cancel a couple and then I went along but was too sick to eat for a couple. We ended up scrambling to make new ADRs and use them up. Ended up using some TS as CS because we didn't have the time and I think we left with a few snack credits still unused.

We priced it out for this trip and we could probably save about $250 by not doing the dining plan and after our last experience I just don't want to risk wasting any of it when it's really mostly for convenience and not saving anything.

Thanks Mike! I really hope it's all it is to me to him!! I did cancel the Boardwalk wait list because I really want to be a BC... We'll just walk over the the boardwalk same area same difference to me!!

I do hope this weekend is all I want it to be as well since I've never stayed at SSR!

Add me to the list!! Just booked our return to BCV for 12/1-7 2013. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE WDW at the holidays and so missed going this past year! So we have a great DVC owner who rents us her points and we're booked in a studio. Yippee!!!:santa::santa::santa:
