Pretty sure we have decided to stay at the Beach Club for the first time next summer as long as there is still free dining or some kind of room discount for the end of August. I have always wanted to stay there and my girls are really excited for the pool. Fingers crossed for good end of summer discounts next year!:goodvibes

Here's a great article that paints a picture of what Disney's strategy is concerning the discounts.
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/business/os-theme-parks-weak-economy-20110811,0,194398.story

Apparently Disney was using the discounts to pump up it's numbers during the recent economic down turn and even though Disney is saying that they intend for these discounts to end, the economy is still not heating up to the point where Disney is that irresistible draw.

I really think that Disney will cut down on the discounts if the new Fantasyland expansion product provides the impetus to pump up the numbers in and by itself, much like Harry did for Universal..... But if the economy is still bad then people will not have the $$$$ to go to Disney, regardless of the draw.

I'm keeping an eye on the monorail resorts. When Fantasyland opens wide up and you start to see a filling of these resorts to the point where many people wanna stay there but they are booked to the max.... that's when you'll know that people have the $$$$ to stay at Disney and that the Fantasyland expansion project is pumping up the #'s and not discounts.

Just my two cents, or in the world of Disney, my 2 dollars. :faint:

Didn't want you to get lost in all the other discussions. Wecome! To try to answer your questions:

No the buildings aren't named because they are not separate buildings. If you look at the lay-out of the place (see page one of this thresd), the YC and the BC are one big building but you can't get from one to the other without a brief walk under a covered porch. The BCV is a separate building next to the BC.

The waterview assures you of either a view of the lake or the quiet pool. You don't need to request "water" but you might want to request "lake view" if that is what you want. You can see it from any room at any level without any problem as far as I remember.

As far as what to request, it really gets to be a personal issue. How much time will you REALLY be spending in the room? I see you will be on the YC side so you don't need to be concerned about a full balconey to sit on. If you are going to spend a lot of time in the room looking at the view then yes, the water view is nice. Marlton Mom can explain the wonders of a garden view but if its not a view of a roof top or a parking lot or a view of water, then they consider it a garden view. This might be looking at a forest or lots of trees but again, if you are spending a lot of time in the room then you did right by getting the water view. Many poeple (our own TeenaS in particular) don't give a hoot about what is outside the windows and use the savings for a good dinner or two.

Hope this helps. Happy planning!
thank you for your reply! I am super excited just to go there... We love the Poly but I've always wanted to try BC or YC..

My hubby and I are going sans kids for Marathon weekend.. we get in on Friday, run Saturday and then will spend Sun and Mon walking around in parks.. I know we will be spending more time in the room this time just due to the nature of our trip..

I just want to make sure I get the lake.. I don't want to pay the extra $400 for the pool! unless it's stormalong bay?? or is it that pool that's on the map that's behind the bldgs??

Yes but if you read the posts of those that have returned from the BC recently the crew doing the work is very efficient and not obnoxious or intrusive upon your personal space and enjoyment of the facilities. However, if you arrive and find a crane outside your window and would like a different view, the front desk is always willing to work with you as much as they can given the constraints of what is available at the time.

Note that they are finishing up BC (if they have not done so already) and will be relocating their efforts to the YC immediately thereafter.

Hope you have a great vacation!

Thanks for the info! What is the construction for exactly? Is it as extensive as the construction currently taking place at the GF? How visible is the construction?

Yep, sounds like a good time for a Dis Boards meet out in Vegas wherever Teena is staying. Surely she and Jeanne have room for a couple hundred of her closest Dis Board friends..... and many hands make light work! ;)

Sounds good to me! We can take turns being up with Lily at night and then help Jeanne set up her classroom. :) Does Jeanne have a pool? Maybe the Noodle Family could join us!

Could someone please hook me up with a Fantasyland Expansion thread link? Please and Thank You. I have no idea what MM is talking about with this expansion but it sounds sort of important. :confused3

We'd be totally up for Vegas. We hear they have a LOT of pools there. Pastina was looking into a Noodle-Yoga convention awhile back but with two kids we never seem to have what Pastina calls "mad money" to just take a trip like that by ourselves without the kids.

Thanks for the Fantasyland linkie. I'm off to read up. I'm getting awfully tired of being crouched behind the clueless couch.

Thank you for the info. :) I would settle for the typical end of August free dining, as long as I can score that or a 30% off room code, we should be good to go. :thumbsup2

Ok, kind of in a bit of freak out mode. Just changed our flights from Monday to Saturday night because of “Irene” (flying out of Philadelphia), added an extra night at BC so will be checking in on Sunday now. Going to stay one night at the airport hotel because we are getting in so late on Saturday. This of course is all based upon the latest models of where Irene will be. Did some research and our flight out on Monday would have been coming from RI so I thought it best to leave Saturday night then chance a back up at the airport or having the hurricane stall.

So, good news is we get an extra couple of days at Disney, if we get to fly out Saturday night.

So to recap the week: Locust falling out of the trees, earthquake (felt it at work), and now a hurricane… Please keep your fingers crossed that we get out on Saturday night and the hurricane blows out to sea and doesn’t hurt anyone.

What is the green Disboard's drink called again? I’m going to need one when I get there!

So, SAB has won me over. We are going to stay from 5/10 to 5/15 for DD 5th Bday and Mothers Day...booking next week! :yay:

Question though...are there typically a large number of conventions in May? We have never stayed there.

I am so excited. DH knows we are going to be at Disney but has no idea where we are staying. He is not a big DW fan so I am hoping SAB will help as he would rather be on a beach... Now we will have the best of both worlds!

We had gone previously in May and loved it - low crowds and great weather. We went this year 5/1- 5/8. Easter was late this year but we thought that when we checked in the Easter crowd would be checking out. I thought the crowds were heavier than the previous times we went in May. It was supposed to be the 5th lowest crowd week according to some websites out there- we kept saying that we would hate to see what busy was really like, if this time was considered not busy! I have never gone in the peak seasons so I don't really know what bad crowds really are. This year grad nights were at the end of a trip (I think Friday and Saturday), both nights the MK closed at 7pm (grad night party at MK) so the crowds I think went up at the other parks (EPCOT and DHS). I was kinda bummed the MK closed early those nights because I would have liked to spend our last night at MK. We loved the weather and it was great this year - it was in the high 80s, but very managable.

We live in the northeast so I really like the thought of going south at this time of year because it sort of makes it feel like summer came early!

Hurricane news does not sound so good.... They are now saying we (NYC) may not have subway service on Monday.... Everyone who is in the path be safe!! Earthquakes, locusts, hurricanes... what's next??? Scary stuff!!!

We are leaving from Newark NJ in the morning for my daughters trip that we were suppose to leave for on Sunday !! Booked only room at BC for the two extra days and will spend some time at the pool ... VERY NERVOUS leaving my hubby and kids at home but we have these plans and have to go !!

HOPE EVERYONE IS SAFE !!!

Sunken Treasure! Thanks.

Was able to change flight to one at 2:30pm... will fly to Chicago first then Orlando. Didn't like the forcast for Saturday night so it was the best I could get and figured Chicago to Orlando would be a safer bet.

I am dreaming of floating in the pool!

Lol!! I don't know someone on here posted about locusts falling from the trees.... I myself didn't see locusts, but I did feel the house shake and I see there is a hurricane headed for NYC... thank goodness I live on the 5th floor, but it might get a little windy up here...and it sometimes rains through the walls, so it could get ugly!
