Here's a tip for y'all up there in the path of the big storm: Go get some cash out of the bank! If you're without power or communications for any length of time even if stores, restaurants, or gas stations open they might not be able to process bank/credit card transactions. If power is out you won't be able to use ATMs. It's always a good thing to have some cash juuuust in case you need it. After things calm down you can always go put the cash back where it came from.

That's the only thing I have left to do here.... did everything else on the list (batteries, water, gas for the generator, etc., etc...). I just wish my 11 year old DD wasn't looking forward so much to the American Idol concert in Providence tomorrow night! :scared1: We're only supposed to start getting the outer bands by tomorrow evening, but Providence is still an hour from us (we're near Cape Cod)and I just reallllly don't feel like going!!! LOL! :rotfl:

Just got back an hour ago from the grocery store. No bread, eggs, Chef Boy R Dee and Ramen noodles. They did have several pallets of water so that was good.

Got back Tuesday from taking DD down to Disney for the College Program. She will be working at Cosmic Rays in Magic Kingdom. She has theme park training tomorrow and starts her actual job training on Monday.

Oh boy... NYC resident here and I think we are in trouble.... The city is basically shutting down for the first time ever at noon tomorrow no public transportation, mandatory evacuations... all for the first time ever scary stuff. I'm about 3 miles from Coney Island at my daughters apartment helping to pack her for her move to Dallas Tx. I got here by public transportation and I think I'm just going to stay here so she won't be alone and scared. Husband will be fine at our home, but I don't want her all alone in her apartment with all her stuff packed waiting to be loaded into the uhaul. So far they haven't ordered us to the shelters. We're hoping she doesn't flood since her apartment is sunken:scared1: We are prepared since I am originally from Beaufort SC and know a little about hurricanes :thumbsup2 Anyway everyone on the east coast in the way of Irene be safe and listen to those warnings don't under estimate her :worship:

Be Safe!!
Nannette

I am in eastern Kentucky and our weather is beautiful, I feel so guilty to be enjoying it. I grew up in Florida and lived near Charleston,SC for 14 years, so I am very used to hurricane stuff. Filling up everything that holds water, candles, matches, lighters, make sure you have propane for your grill. When you lose electric you can cook what you have in your freezer and have a feast.

Please be careful and know that there is alot of us praying for you safty if you are in the path!:grouphug:

Stay safe Nannette, they are expecting the city to get hit hard! I am about 40 miles west of N.Y.C. (in N.J.). I grew up just 10 miles from the city and I never remember anything like this: mass transit shut downs, major highways closed south bound, partial evacuations of Hoboken and Jersey City, it's very scary:scared1:

Praying for all of us here on the east coast!!! Be safe

Sending lots of PD and praying for you all. I am in NC (and originally from the coast of Boston so have experienced lots of hurricanes) ~ if it is any consolation, the hurricane has weakened a bit and it did not do as much damage as it could have here and the NC coast got hit the worst. Certainly, plenty of damage, but not as bad as it could have been. By the time it reaches NYC it will be a bit weaker - not to imply that isn't serious, but hopefully not as bad as what Bloomberg has been preparing for...better to be prepared when it comes to these storms! Surges, flooding and wind can cause a mess.

Nannette, praying your DD is safe in a basement apt.

Laurie, hoping you are far enough inland to only get some wind and rain.

It is hard to imagine NCY so shut down! I lived on the upper east side many years ago and the City without public transportation would be incredible.

Be safe!!!:goodvibes

Thinking of all the Disers out there in the hurricane path...good luck to all...supposed to be a tropical storm by the time it hits us in Mass...fingers crossed.....good luck

While I feel guilty posting about an upcoming trip when so many are preparing for this storm....and I have been glued to CNN...hoping and praying that this storm will not be as forceful as predicted.....
Anyone here have experience with the Sandcastle Club? DD5 loved Neverland Club in June and actually wanted to go back, and she did enjoy Camp Dolphin...while you get 2 hrs complimentary there, (if you dine on their property) they accept tips...I attempted to tip at Neverland, they cannot accept....and I forgot my DVC discount! lol
SO now I know!!

Thanks in advance to anyone who can share info on the club! And also, where exactly is it located...I cannot recall ever seeing it there!

Ok, maybe it wasn't locust falling out of the trees, they were cicada, but they are still gross. At my work, they have been all over the place.

Didn't make it out today, they cancelled our flight... only line I stood in today was at the grocery store! Booked for first thing Monday. My friend and family got out though and texted me they were on the Magical Express so I am happy for them.

Disney was great about me canceling my one day room ressie I had made last minute (along with extending my trip by another day) and refunded me the money with out a charge so I'm am very grateful for that.

Hopefully I will be at the Beach Club on Monday.

Stay safe everyone.

Hope all you East Coasters stay safe. We are more inland in SC (near Charlotte NC) so all we saw was clouds (thank goodness). Hope your trip comes off great DoleWhipMom. And nannette, you be careful in that basement!

And DisneyBride, the Sandcastle Club is on the hall to the right directly behind the Marketplace heading toward EPCOT. I've never used it (several regular posters have) but have heard nothing but rave reviews. Kid want to go back :) .

Thanks for the info...why I cant recall seeing it I do not know! However I never looked for it because she wasn't old enough. Now ask me where Crews Cup is located...

DisneyBride03 - my kids love the Sandcastle club - a little too much. Two years ago they were supposed to go one night - that turned into three nights. Now ds asks every night if he has to go to dinner with us or can he go to the Sandcastle club. Last trip he went three times.

My kids have been to both the Neverland Club and the Sandcastle Club and prefer the Sandcastle.

HTH

Nanette (and all the rest of us East Coasters) - STAY SAFE!!!!!

Thanks DisneyMomx7! Its been awhile since I visited this thread...but know you are one of the experts:thumbsup2
Helps very much!! THis will work out great with F & W! Did you have to make your reservations ahead of time or just do a "drop in"? I did reservations before but this is a longer trip and plans may be more spontaneous popcorn::

We've done both. I made an ADR for one night before our trip and ended up making two "same day" reservations.

HTH.

News flash! :mic: Here is your latest non BC related weather bulletin from beautiful Marlton NJ.

It's raining cats and dogs here in Marlton with a 50% chance of 'poodles'. Make that Large Poodles. Large Poodles with WAVES!

Dorothy and Toto just blew by, screaming something about a Disney Vacation Club time share in Oz.

Evan (DS 12) is hoping for an at home version of Storm Along Bay in the back yard. At this time the lazy river portion is ready for swimmers.

That's the latest from beautiful downtown Marlton NJ. Keep your channel tuned to this thread for more updates.

Meant to leave YC on Monday but my flight back to MA is cancelled :(. While everyone seems to think this is great.... Its not! I cannot get on another flight until Saturday!!! Next Saturday! I will have already been here for 10 nights and while I did buy the Disney trip insurance it's not going to cover staying 5 more nights, plus my DH needs to be home for work.

DH wants to rent a car and drive 23 hours home with 3 kids....

Anyone with any tips or ideas I would LOVE to hear em!

While I was reading this I thought......rent a car and drive home. We drive every trip (9 total) 18+ hours. I know it sounds horrible but try to make the best of it if at all possible. We've left late morning, 11ish, and traveled all day/evening to Disney. Arriving in the early morning at WDW. The kids usually were sleeping by 9 pm or so which helped with driving. It worked for us. Good luck with your decision. I'm sure its not even something you want to think about. Sorry!

If you split up...send dh home on an earlier flight??? Maybe they can get one home faster??

Aw I am sorry...no tips to offer but you have my sympathy. We fly to WDW too and I couldn't fathom a car trip that long...splitting the parties up is a good idea for flying home.....
