Been off the boards for awhile, but checking in today because....

WE LEAVE FOR DISNEY TOMORROW!!!

Yes, tomorrow I'll be checking into the Beautiful Beach Club, and I can't wait!!!

Teena - so sorry to hear about your setback...hang in there and take it easy...

If anyone else is hanging around the Beach Club tomorrow through the 13th of August, look for me and my daughter - we'll be the ones giddy from excitement for our first ever Mother/Daughter Trip!:banana:

We'll be there August 9-14, so I'll look out for you. I'll be the one with the two playful little boys acting like pirates and the husband acting like he'd rather be anywhere than at Disney. :rotfl:

And I echo the sentiments for a speedy recovery, Teena. Hang in there, and think happy thoughts of Princess Lily. :cloud9:

We just returned from a wonderful stay at Disney's Beach Club. What an amazing resort!! :thumbsup2 Here are some pictures we took. Looking forward already the our stay next summer

We leave tomorrow for Florida :banana::banana: 2+ weeks in other parts, then 13 nights in WDW, Yay!
I'm so over packed

Have a FANTASTIC trip!!!

Hey NoahKatyMom, piratemommy and Elissajoy.
:welcome:party::welcome:

What he said!

bunch of stuff cut, but it is good info, so go back and read if you need to- Dee

So if you have to do a walk up, try for Cape May if you want, but I think the Captain's Grille is the best kept secret in Beach Club/Yacht Club dining. Check out the menus for the restaurants on the allears site and decide for yourself.

~ Marlton Mom

I want to make two comments- I agree with MM- we loved our meal at Captain's Grille, and it was quiet in there, so that may be a good bet if you need a walk-in

We have had some luck in getting a walkin ressie by calling the dining line while we are in the parks!!! Call, see if there is any availability, they will give you a ressie number, then head to the restaurant. That may also allow you to "shop around" at which restaurants have availablity without walking from place to place.

Thanks for sharing your pictures!!!

Mike- if it is not too late to put in a request for info...

If you get a chance, could you check prices of some of the staples at the Marketplace and report back:

1/2 Gallon of Milk: $X.XX
1/2 Gallon of Juice
Dozen Eggs
Loaf of Bread
Jar of Peanut Butter (I suspect folks are better off packing this!)
Fruit: banana, apple, orange

and any other frequently consumed items I may have forgotten.

Thanks!!!

Build a Better Mousetrip has not posted the BC movie schedule for August yet, but they do have the schedule up for other resorts, so I am hoping they will have the list today.

Thanks for this picture of the grab and go!!!

I am going to add this photo to our Beach Club Marketplace thread, and add your villa pictures to the BCV post on page 1.

Thanks again for this picture. I have added it to the BC Marketplace thread.

Did you happen to take a closeup picture of the sushi in the package when you ordered it?

Thanks!!!

OK, Dee, with that post you not only got a LOL you got a snort!!! :rotfl::rotfl:

And the funny thing is that I am a total hippie. Somehow, this hippie gave birth to a cadet! :confused3 I've decided that I can't fight it any more, just go with the flow...

Thanks for the tips!!

I'm glad you weren't offended by the comment. I try really hard not to say the wrong thing, but that was too priceless to pass up!!!

I'm with you with the "where did this kid come from?" I am pretty much a pacifist too, but both my boys are obsessed with the military and weaponry. Yup, gotta go with the flow!

First let me say what a wonderful thread with a TONS of useful knowledge for our first trip to Disney in October. Thank you. We are so excited to be spending our first trip (yes, I'm already starting to think about a 2nd) at BC! I just have a couple of questions....

1. I saw the question about the fins in the pool earlier. Does anyone know if swim vests are allowed?

2. What kind of quick service options are there for gluten free for breakfast? Fruit cups, yogurt, any dried cereals? We have made several reservations for everything but breakfast.

3. Is there any chance of having any walk-ins in the restaurants on property in the evening or for breakfast? Since it is our first time I don't want to overload with the eating and would like to leave some options open!

Thanks so much for your help.

Check out the link for the Beach Club Marketplace. There are lots of pictures and info, so hopefully you will be able to see some things that will work for your family.

Thanks for all the well wishes. The mini vacation is going to have to be cancelled per doctor's orders. We hope to reschedule for later in August before I head off to help Jeanne or sometime in September.

The meds they gave me help the pain but when they wear off, wow, the pain is getting worse.

Hurry up 2012!!

I am so sorry to hear that you are in so much pain and have to cancel your long awaited vacation. It will be nice to go see baby Lily after this setback....just keep picturing that beautiful face to help you get through the pain:lovestruc.

I will keep you in my prayers and hope you are well soon!

Only 4 more months til 2012....2011 has been horrible for my family too :sad2: so I know I want this year to end!

Yup, too early. I haven't seen the ones for August yet.

Probably Sept 1-3 for the movie schedule for September.

Nope sorry, once I got the pizza separated for the kids, grapes opened and straws in the juice boxes I dove right in. But I can tell you it had a package of soy sauce and wasabi in the package...chop sticks were in a container in the refridgerator.

We have had some luck in getting a walkin ressie by calling the dining line while we are in the parks!!! Call, see if there is any availability, they will give you a ressie number, then head to the restaurant. That may also allow you to "shop around" at which restaurants have availablity without walking from place to place.

I don't know for sure if this is gospel but when we called dining reservations on the fly when we were in the parks they tended to tell us that there was no availability until an hour and a half beyond the time we were calling. I found that kind of hard to believe so I disregarded the info and approached the podium of the places we wanted to drop in on and sure enough they had an opening some time sooner. The time varied but it was a whole lot sooner than 90 minutes.

We noticed when Calling Dining reservations that this was a pattern that we repeatedly encountered so the no availability until 90 minutes later really raised our suspicions.

Keep in mind this was not at the high demand places like LeCellier!!! You are plain out of luck if you don't plan ahead for those locations.

I questioned the CM's at the podiums directing that restaurant's traffic and they did not know why dining reservations said they did not have openings for those times when there actually WERE. My unsupported conclusion was that Disney Dining reservations was giving people time to get to the location hence the 90 minute availability gap.

So the bottom line is ~ call for dining reservations on the fly if you must, but if it's a place you really want to drop in on sooner rather than later AND it's not one of those insanely popular places AND you suspect that you may have a chance..... show up in person and you might get lucky! :thumbsup2

PS keep in mind that during the free dining promotion everything is crazy and it's a whole new world. Good luck and go with God during free dining! :lmao: I hear even the turkey leg carts are totally booked! ;)

PSS. Does anyone else wonder if Disney downgrades the quality of their food during free dining? I can't see how $$$ wise they manage to make a profit during those type of promotions. I'm just wondering.....

Your post reminded me that you're just down the road from Newport Beach! I think I mentioned this before, but I've spent 1-2 weeks of every summer (and a couple fall weekends) in Newport since childhood. (Unfortunately, I missed one summer when my doctor would not allow it - I was 8 months pregnant with our first child.) So we're skipping this year because my parents are heading to Germany/Italy, and my family is trying a cruise on the Disney Dream. Hope you're enjoying a beautiful summer there!

This summer has been interesting. Sunday morning I thought I mistakenly woke up in Florida as it was raining and humid! But I can't complain the humidity was nothing like Florida's!

Newport is great. My office is actually in Huntington Beach, but I live in South Orange County, very east of the beach so we get hot (and sometimes that monsoonal moisture comes over our Saddleback mountain, too).
Born and raised in OC, and a former DLR cast member :cool1:too!

Thank you so much for the quick replies. Fortunately or unfortunately, :confused3, we will be there Oct 9-15 (these are supposed to be blacked out) so free dining won't affect our stay. I have ADR's at the places we really want to go so I may make 1 or 2 more and then just wing it. My mom is going with us and she didn't want to be bogged down by an itinerary and I'm afraid she's already going to roll her eyes at my schedule.:rotfl2: Also thanks for the pics of the market. I saw many different things we could get for our son who is gluten free. I won't have to worry about packing too many snacks for him!

Hi all,

I have been in contact with Nixieh and she is no longer in the noodle swap....
her quote "To be honest we are spending 3 weeks in Orlando (we are from the UK) and because I didn't think we were going to get the noodles I had planned to buy some ourselves from Walmart at the beginning of the holiday as our Beach Club stay is the very end of the holiday. I am so sorry to be a pain but there are lots of other people staying at this time so maybe someone else can plug the gap instead!"

Is there anyone interested in receiving the noodle family from me on August 18th? Please let me know.

Thanks,

Chris

I PM'd Chris (maddog) and I will be at YC 21-23 preceded by a split stay from the 18th at the all stars. There might be a better fit...

Wow yes that is very sad that you can't share... but better safe than sorry!! Actually the chefs table is not a part of the platinum plan I've upgraded it... DD is about to be engaged to a chef and I thought she would love that she can tell him shes eating at the chefs table at Disney!! When we are out with him its always at the chefs table with all the chefs making a fuss so why not have that at Disney ;o) I'm going to add the wine paring because she would love that as well.. and I won't plan to drive that night (taking your advice ;o))
We have the firework cruise planned that night as well so that should be fun!! I'll be posting live while I'm there!!! So maybe you'll follow along!!

~Nannette
What a wonderful treat for your daughter. Chef's Table followed by an Illuminations Cruise! I think we were at the Chef's Table for about three hours....such a wonderful meal. I will certainly follow along...where will you be posting your live report?

Hurry up 2012!!

Teena, I'm so sorry you're going through this. I hope you are able to avoid surgery. Great news that you already have rescheduled your mini vacation.

We are leaving tomorrow to spend the night at the airport before flying from London on Weds. We are spending 5 nights at the Poly, one week in a villa, 2 nights at the Hard Rock Hotel and then 2 nights on Treasure Island Beach before saving the best for last and moving to the BC for our last 4 days on the 18th. If anyone has any missions, photography or research for the BC or any of our other destinations then please let me know...

:banana::banana::banana::banana:

Have a wonderful trip!:cool1:

And you, too! :cool1:

piratemommy, I agree with Dee and Marlton Mom about Captain's Grille. We've often had breakfast there without a reservation and have enjoyed a couple lunches without one, too. Dinner sometimes is booked full in my experience.

Besides Beaches and Cream, another nice spot is Crew's Cup. It's right next to Yachtsman's Steakhouse and offers a variety of snacks and entrees. Here's a menu:
http://allears.net/menu/menu_cup.htm
As you can see it is from 2010 but may give you some idea.
Hurricane Hannah serves the same burgers as B&C with shorter waits. There are a few tables there but we usually take ours back to our villa when we order there.

Lobby concierge can also help you book dining as can Guest Services at any park.

PSS. Does anyone else wonder if Disney downgrades the quality of their food during free dining? I can't see how $$$ wise they manage to make a profit during those type of promotions. I'm just wondering.....

I hope not! I had no idea we were travelling during free dining (since I paid for my dining plan!:sad2: ) but I would guess they make up the cost in the room price?

I'd also suggest if you have a computer (and reliable connection) to try for reservations online the day before or of when you want to go to a specific location. Since many people cancel day of, you might have luck that way! (If you are willing to pay the insnae rates for internet access....:confused3)
