2011 Yacht & Beach Club FAQ, Part II

Hi Dee,

I hesitate to post this, because it's purely anecdotal, but we arrived at 10pm one night last summer and asked if we could be seated (just for ice cream, but we preferred to sit inside.) The CM was very nice, but said that they were no longer seating after 10pm - just the walk-up counter for ice cream and shakes. They were definitely open until 11pm and diners were still seated at their tables until then - just not seating new guests after 10pm that night. Again, purely anecdotal, so disregard if that's not the norm.

Thanks pixarmom! That is what I was looking for!

(and thanks for the link Dee. :) It's not that I don't trust the DIS restaurant page, but I definitely trust the folks on this thread more ;))

Well, obviously it was good to post the question and get the first hand info!
I think I have found something similar with the lounge times, too. They list one thing on the DIS page for hours, but actually stop serving food at the bars prior to closing time.

Pssssst, everyone. We leave for Florida tomorrow at noon! Our vacation is actually HERE!!!

Packing the van now, but the kids wanted to see our ticker!!!

:banana::banana: (dancing bananas as requested by DS Jonah)

Will try to check in from the BC on Friday!!!

Cheers and love to all!!!

I'm not, but my Dad was before he retired! :rotfl: That made it even funnier to me!!!! :rotfl2:

Did he get chased by many pool noodle wielding lunatics!? :sad2:

Have a safe and wonderful trip. Don't forget the pool noodles (skinny ones if you MUST!) and the pool goggles for the kids as well as the water shoes for the water park and the.... well you get the idea.

Here's hoping your home is safe from all the flooding and other natural disasters that can happen! You can always bunk in the fantasy suite and borrow some of those noisy construction workers if stuff at home needs to be repaired while you're gone. In fact, now that I'm thinking of it perhaps we can send those construction workers out to our homes while we are at the BC/YC so that the "honey-do" list gets done in our absences!

THAT'S how we'll keep things quiet at the hotel!

As long as you don't go Godiva on them :scared1: they should be able handle it!

:lmao: That is another option for the "construction worker behavioral/noise modification plan". Like most Ninja Mom's I have many resources at my disposal for compliance with my "plans".

First off I want to thank all of you lovely
If I do early on-line check in and put my first request as Please put us as far away from the construction as you can. Do you think they will make that happen? Or should I just wait and check in the day of?

My other two requests would be to have a room with a full balcony or a bottom floor room with a full patio and/or a room with a view of the fireworks at Epcot.

Honestly I am really not that picky and originally my only request was going to be a room with a full balcony or bottom floor with a full patio. (Since my DH likes to sit outside so much)

Wait until you get there to check in (Teena's wisdom talking here). Go look at your room. If it does not suit you immediately go back down to the desk and ask for another room and tell them why. Do not use the room. They will try to accomodate if possible. If they can't ask could you move to another room the next day or as soon as possible.

On the other hand I have seen the equipment. It does not consume the whole resort. Would I like them outside my balcony...No. Would it ruin my trip....No. I really like Mickey and Minnies Mom's attitude. :wizard:

it took me 4 days but I am caught up :goodvibes

We brought our pool noodles with us and when we left we talked to our Mousekeeper and she said she would pass them on for us...

On another note can I please get some opinions?
we are suprising DS14 and DS11 with a trip in Dec. A couple of our friends are now saying they would love to come also. While I love them, when we go to Disney we love not having plans (except ADR). I feel so selfish for secretly not wanting them to come but DH is deploying for a year in Feb so its kinda like our last hurahh and then when he comes back Disney is the light at the end of our tunnel. Am I wrong in feeling this way?
Thanks in advance
Don't feel sorry about feeling that way! We have gone with family and friends on different times and a few times by our selves. When we are on our own we have the most fun and have the best memories! My brother serves in the Army and he makes it a point to go on his family only trips! In fact they are moving back to the states from Germany in Auguast and they are going on a Disney cruise to spain and italy, ect. Spend time as a family! If you just can't tell them no ask them if they can just meet up at the ADRs or just a few meeting spots and keep most of the trip random. From my self, my DH, and DS please tell your DH thanks for serving and a special thanks for you and your kids for supporting him! Being a Navy brat and my younger brother serving for over 10 years now I understand how hard it is to say good bye and how wonderful it is to hold them again! Thank you again!

Here goes again regarding the maintenance. The location is ever moving. This is the normal outside maintenance which consists of sanding, painting, siding, etc. All the resorts at WDW are done and it's now the BC's time. Exactly where the maintenance will be tomorrow and next week and next month is not known since it all depends on what they find at the location they are working. For instance, if today they are next to the back doors from the lobby and they find they only need a little sanding and some painting and nothing more, they could be done that section quickly and move on to the next section. However, they might find some areas that need the siding torn out and new siding put on. It might rain for three days. So, where they are and when and where they are going is not something that can be answered except maybe for a few days at a time. Too many factors to consider.

However, what I can tell you for sure is they only work and create noise between 9 AM and 5 PM. The construction machinery is not moved away when they are not working. The cranes and other machinery stays where they are working. If you plan on sitting on your balcony and enjoying the view between 9 AM and 5 PM and happen to get a room where they are currently working when you are there, then just go down to the desk and ask to be moved as soon as they can get you into a new room. Most people are at the pool or parks during these hours and only in their room to change clothes, etc. so even if they get a room where they are currently working, it doesn't really affect their vacation.

As far as what floors are affected, they are working on the entire siding of the building so on any given day they could be working on any given floor or floors.

Hope this helps.

I love this thread. I have the beach club booked for our one and only night in florida after our first disney cruise. It will also be our first onsite resort experience. We have family nearby and have always just stayed with them (not an option this trip though). Anyway ... We are getting off the cruise and planning to head right to bc for stormalong bay! I chose this resort because of our thre kiddos who will be 10, 8 and 5. It also looks lovely to me.

But, i am worrying myself crazy about the bus transportation to and from for the Halloween party. i am wondering now if I should have booked a monorail resort or maybe the Contemporary for the walkway to MK. I could save the Beach club as my something to look forward tp for next time when we do Epcot and hollywood studios. Sigh.

The morning after the party, i have us booked for a Cape May character breakfast. And, we'd relax by the pool a bit. Then, before heading home, we'd get the kitchen sink! Seems like a sweet plan, right?

Sounds like an awesome plan! Transportation will be fine to the Halloween Party. We went last year from YC, and it went smoothly. We didn't have to wait for the bus that long and the ride isn't that bad. Of course a monorail resort will get you there faster, but it sounds like you will really enjoy the resort while you are there for your overnight stay - I wouldn't change it! If it were me, I'd stay YC/BC over the monorail resort :)

Thank you Teena and Mickie and Minnie's Mom for the information (and Marlton Mom thanks for the laugh and the vision of the lavendar pool noodle beating :lmao:). My biggest concern is for nap time. Without a nap my son will not make it through evening activities. He doesn't nap much at home but at Disney we find that he needs a nap (or at least a rest time). During this nap I usually hang out with a beverage and a book and get "me" time. My greatest concern is the noise during nap and/or the inability to have a relaxing place for this "me" time on vacation.

I do understand that all resorts need upgrades and fresh paint, etc., to stay the quality we expect. However, with that said, I also don't want to save and look forward to a vacation and find when I get there it is a construction area. One day near our room, ok, I can hack that but for the week I would be very upset.

I'm just concerned because I won't be able to gauge the situation myself until I am there so I do thank you all for the info.

ETA: Ok, someone just slap me around and tell me to get a grip. It can't be that bad right?? Surely if I get unlucky they will move us if I explain why. I need to learn to not worry or at least not worry until an issue is at hand :) **trying to be positive now** :)

This is the second time today I am asking this question, so can someone please respond if they know this answer.

I was just reading a thread where this person said the room they got at the Beach Club was effected by the construction happening outside which caused a lot of noise. Well I was wondering are their Lagoon View - Club Level rooms effected by the construction currently happening and what are the odds it will be finished by August 31, 2011 which is the day my family and I are checking in?

It sounds to me like the construction is moving around the resort so no one knows what dates or areas will be worked on when exactly. I feel your pain and sorry that I don't have a better answer. Our trip is before that so if I can find out for you when I'm there I will (unless I worry to much and change resorts) but again my guess is that it will be hard to get exact answers. *Maybe* you could get an estimate end date??

Thanks for your reply and I guess the good thing is I already know our room will be on the 5th floor since were staying Club Level, so hopefully being on the highest floor will help. Still if anyone else has an answer I would like to hear it.

Good point! We are CL too so perhaps that will help. I'm sure the men/work may occasionally be on the upper floors but the equipment won't be on the doorstep.

Please see my answer above. I doubt very much it will be done by August 31. There is no way of knowing where they will be on August 31st and whether any of the fifth floor rooms facing the back (the lake - that's the water view rooms) will be affected while you are there. Because people keep asking when it's going to be done, I asked two managers a few weeks ago. I got two different answers. One was the end of this year and the other answer was in the Fall. They both said weather is a huge factor as to when it will be done plus the fact that they have no idea how long each area will take until they actually get to that area and see what needs to be done. Some areas need much more work than other areas and they don't know the amount of work at each area and therefore the amount of days it will take to finish that area until they get there and start the work and assess the area. Obviously if they are working anywhere in the back of the resort, which is the area facing the lake, those rooms (whether they are on the first floor or the fifth (club level)) will be affected. However, they could be working in the back area where there are no fifth floor rooms (the fifth floor rooms do not go as far towards Epcot as other floors) or they could be in the front of the building and therefore no water view rooms would be affected.

In other words, unfortunately, there is no definitive answer to your question.

Also, the noise will only be between 9 AM and 5 PM.

I just wish the reservations desk or CL staff or someone would mention the construction when you book the room. It's just that now I'm a little over a week out and I just find this out. I booked the room under a discount so my odds of getting another similar room (CL level, deluxe resort) under this same code may be slim. I know I should just wait until I get there and check-in and see if I'm lucky or unlucky but what if I'm unlucky. On one of our stays to the WL we had an issue with the room and when we went back downstairs and asked about changing we were told there was not another room but we could check back the next day. I'm just afraid if I wait and see how it is I may be out of luck (I'm a worrier can you tell?? I also am the planner so I also feel responsible).

I hate making requests after requests. I'm already requesting for a day bed. I can just see the face on the CM now when I request a daybed and the need to be far from construction. I do LOVE the BC but a vacation without sleep and/or naps could be very bad for all.

Teena - please don't take my venting personally. You are so kind to answer questions and give us information. I am just a little upset because I just heard about the construction and there is no way to know how much it will impact us.

I think if the construction issue was bothering me so much I would check to see what might be available elsewhere with my pin, maybe you will be pleasantly surprised and find a CL room available with your pin at BW or YC. Then you would not have to get so stressed out before getting there.

I plan on not checking in until I arrive, then checking to see where my room is located, my concern is the dust as I have asthma and copd and do not need to have either flair up while I am on vacation

I hope you can work something out to give you peace of mind about staying at the BC or some other resort.
