I currently have a May split stay booked: 2 nights and Beach Club, 2 nights at Riviera (resort view) and 4 nights theme park view at contemporary. I am trying to modify to 4 nights at Riviera but have not had any luck even even though I check availability multiple times a day. Is there a better time of day to check for availability or is it mostly luck? No one wants to move 3 times :(

Night time works best for me.

With that said right around 30 days people cancel to avoid holding so be sure to check often around that time.

I also check for that specific room type a lot and I have not found any special time I have had more luck.

I have extra points so sometimes, I have been able to grab one of the two nights I might need and then adjust the waitlist down to one. Obviously can only do 31 days in advance

I don't have any extra points😢

Are you trying for a resort view RIV studio? I think you'd have better luck if you're willing to switch to preferred view at RIV. I had a resort view 1 BR booked for a June trip. In early February, decided we wanted a 2 BR, and really wanted a lock-off, not a dedicated 2 BR (invited the in-laws). That means I needed a 1 BR and a studio available in inventory. I quickly determined it was very unlikely I was going to get a resort view 2 BR lock off and just coughed up the extra points for preferred view. Even there, I couldn't get all 8 nights I wanted and had to spend a few weeks with waitlists and website stalking.

That said, you're only looking for a couple of nights, so if you want to play the DVC slots game, go for it! When I've stalked the website, I have seen availability change at all times of day. You can take screenshots each time you check, and you'll see days change here and there all the time. I've never discerned any pattern personally.

We are looking for a two bedroom Riviera resort view lock off to match with the two nights that we have. We don't have enough points for the preferred view and that probably wouldn't help us because we'd still have to move rooms since it's not in the same category. Right now we have two bedroom beach club for two nights, two bedroom resort view Riviera, and then four nights at contemporary.

Got it. TBH, I think lock-offs in either resort or preferred are going to be pretty tough at this point. You have to have both the studio and the 1 BR become available, and the problem this short out is that even the 1 BRs are pretty booked up.

If it were me, I'd probably resign myself to having to do a dedicated 2 BR and target those instead of a lock-off. But, you never know, and if you want to play the game and are persistent enough, maybe you can get it. Either way, good luck!

What I may do is put my second waitlist in for a dedicated and then stock a dedicated as well. I suppose it's easier to move within the same resort than from beach club to Riviera. I appreciate this.

For a big trip last May/June, we changed hotels 7 times. It was absurd and we won’t ever do that again, but I will say in the worst case scenario packing cubes are your friend. We pre-planned every outfit to make it as simple as possible.

In terms of finding specific times of day, I have only gotten lucky stalking at random times. I can’t recall any specific pattern, it u suppose persistence? That’s how we’ve ended up with a Beach Club studio for 3 nights in July this year.

If it were me, I would not consider a move from RIV->RIV particularly helpful compared to BCV->RIV. Are there any 2BRs anywhere in the system available for all of those first four nights---for example at SSR?

If so, this is what I would do: Book the SSR 2BR, then waitlist a 2BR at RIV for the four nights. I would set those waitlists up to confirm *after* 31 days---the RIV reservations require more points, so you won't leave points in holding if you switch, and that maximizes your chances.

I happen to like SSR, so if I were "stuck" there I would not mind. YMMV.
