2011 Destashing Thread

I did it! Emptied and transplated desk and sewing items from 3 drawers into 1! :cool1: Gonna wash it down for the next person.
While in what we call the Cat's Room, found a dictionary and Thesauraus, figuring I should just "recycle" them as now we use spell check/online searches. Any ideas on what to do with them other than the recycle bin? :confused3

Yesterday I took a bag full of 2004 and 2009 Disney guidebooks into a lady I work with that will be taking her grandchildren to Disney in late September/early October. (I kept the PassPorters ;) )

Need to get back into the bookcase either today or tomorrow. :hippie: and have decided to get rid of some more craft and desk supplies.

What about you? What did you do over the weekend? :surfweb:

How about donating them to a school or library? My kids still use the paper copies in school. Nice job on the progress!

We have been on vaca and Im finishing a 2 day drive home. I've had lots of thinking time and am so ready to do some manual labor projects. The basement will be first due to heat in garage. We want to move next summer so I am extremely motivated to be ruthless! I have a list of declutter areas and items to sell. Can't wait to get started!

StephMk, I had no idea paper ones were still used. Thanks, I will check into that :)

LOL, forgot to finish my last post. We did not get what I had planned on doing today BUT DH destashed "his closet" where all his tools and such are. No less than 11 trash bags were taken out. I had NO idea there was SO much stuff in there! The house feels MUCH lighter tonight :thumbsup2

I went through my dresser this morning & got rid of a small stack of t-shirts & a pile of unmatched socks. I'm about to hit the bookcase & built ins & see what else I can pare down. Trying to look at each little area as separate projects so it doesn't get overwhelming!

Garage is clean and took a pick-up truck full of stuff to the dump and Goodwill. :goodvibes I enter the house through the garage, so when I come home it just feels so much happier now.

I have Fall and Winter clothes the kids have outgrown ready to go to consignment. I will be so glad once that is gone! I donated a bag of shoes, clothes, books, and games today. So I made a little progress.

I really need to go through the kid's rooms once more for Fall and Winter things. I'd like to get rid of everything that can't be used any more.

Yesterday I pulled out 12 books to donate/sell and spent 2 hours going through a basement closet. I put some stuff away, collected a shopping bag full of recycling paper and organized some of my developed photos by date. I hope to put them in albums but for now I'm happy to have some of the years in some sort of order! These pics go back to the early 2000s.

I have another bin to go through in that closet then on to the kids' dress up clothes. DH is going out tonight so I think I'll play a netflix movie & spend another few hours on the basement tonight!

I need to do some painting but figure that has to wait til it cools off some outside. I talked to my mom today and she is so excited that there is a chance we might move back. That motivates me to get the house ready to sell!

Right there with you. DH got rid of his spare wood and some spare cardboard boxes in the garage and it helps SO much! Looking forward to the weekend! Time to destash some more!

Worked on organizing photos last weekend and back to it this weekend.

Co-worker sent an email looking for a clarinet for her daughter so I think I'll be passing mine from HS on.

Cleaned out my youngest DD's bedroom and came out with 2 kitchen garbage bags full of stuff. YAY!!!! That was all crushed shoe boxes, birthday bags that are ripped and paper cut up on the floor. kids!:sad2:

Still have to go through her toys and donate what she doesn't play with. Started on her clothes and making a donate pile of one's she outgrew.

Trying to get as much done before surgery next week. It's going to be 2 weeks before I can vacuum.

I have not been doing as much as I like because it has been hot here and our air conditioning died. It is suppossed to be better here later in the week so i might try and get the crawl space in the attic done.

My 3 siblings have 4 ex spouses among them. My grandmother has entrusted me with all the photos of them since they don't want them. Should I keep them? No kids involved that are going to want pictures of their folks later.

Put them on CD's on on a memory card  That is my winter project, already have the memory cards. Just waiting for the cold/snowy/winter days popcorn::

I gave a set of barstools to a friend of mine today. They had been in my garage for 6 months collecting dust.

Didn't read the whole thread, but I wanted to make sure you all know about itsdeductible.com. It's a website associated with Turbotax that allows you to keep track of your donations. I started doing this a few years ago and discovered that I had been WAY undervaluing my clothing and other donations. For example, a pair of casual adult shoes in medium condition are valued at 25.00! Who knew? As long as you get a receipt from Goodwill or wherever for each donation, you can itemize as you go along all year. Happy destashing!

The weather finally cooled down enough for me to work in the attic crawl space. I found some treasures but most of it was either trash or stuff to donate. Now I can re-use the space for storage.

Thanks for that! I may need to pay more attention to our donations this fall!

I tackled the garage on Sat. We end up making piles of stuff in between the cars. I cleared it all, put stuff away & threw out a bunch. Next I need to take our misc. cans of paint to the recycling center and work on the back of the garage.
