2011 Destashing Thread

I know we had some Indy folks on here- 9-5 today and 11-5 tomorrow Marsh pharmacies are taking unwanted drugs, so great weekend to destash the medicine cabinet.

I am on a mad rush to de-clutter the daily stuff that piles up on our main level. DD offered up our house for homecoming pics next Saturday. Yikes! THe main level looks decent but a little lived in, kwim? So I am busy touch up painting & putting away my school and work files. This will be good though because since we are hosting Thanksgiving, I'll have a head start on making it company ready.

I had Kohl's cash so I went and bought a new throw rug for the kitchen to hide our icky tile floor, couch pillows & a welcome mat to freshen things up. I re-purposed the old ones to the garage. I also need to de-stash the small stack of toys that DS has piled in the upstairs hall from his room.

I'm glad to see this thread pop up again. Our bedroom has become a disaster zone again esp since I have all the kids gifts in here and no place to hide anything else.

Before T-giving I need to do a hard sort on the kids' toys again. I'm so sick and tired of spending hours cleaning them up.

The garage is also on my never-ending to-do list. It's also become a disaster zone again. Not sure why this keeps happening. I think I need to just start purging again in there. No reason to just have this stuff pile up just to be given away a year later.

I'll have to go check the medicine cabinet to see if we have any old RX's in there. Thanks for posting about Marsh's drop off thing this weekend.

I have been cleaning out papers from around my desk. It's amazing how quickly they all add up. I have a pretty big bag of recycle ready to go.

I also have a bag of things to donate. I have been adding to it today.

The landlord's insurance company called and they want to take interior pics of the house. :scared1: I'm waiting for my landlord to call me back to verify it's legit, but just to be on the safe side I'm doing that deep cleaning I've been putting off. Have shredded a ton of paper, (on my 2nd large trash bag) and went through DD's summer and fall clothes that no longer fit so they'll be passed onto a friend. I also found all of her holiday dresses from years past, so those will be passed on, though I admit it gave my heart a bit of a twinge.

I have made major progress. I have finally found the strength to part with lots of things I had been hanging onto. I have taken 6 bags to Goodwill and had about the same amount of garbage. Part of that was purging my spice cabinet. Oh my, why would I have 3 bottles of a spice I don't use in any of my recipes? Oh well, it's cleaned out and I made a list of spices I need to re-buy to replace ones that I pitched. Yeah, only 2 on that list. I am realizing how much bigger our house is when there is not all this clutter taking up space!

How is everyone else doing?

OMGoodness, I had forgot about this thread Comicguy LOL
We are now about 6 months away from moving to Florida so yes I have made great progress.
Destashed (sold) the Fenton Art Glass I did not want. Gave away ALL my Princess House Crystal and glass knick knacks.
Trashed lots of clothes, got rid of some Wii games, also gave away lots of holiday dishes; plastic bowls and baskets.
Sold the Dodge Dakota (course we then bought a V10 2500 truck but it will pull the camper ;)

Enough about us, how have you been doing Comicguy as well as all you others? :confused3

Work has been really busy, not too mention looking at schools on various weekends with my son. I have recently gotten rid of about 6 books and 4 DVD's, not a lot but considering how busy everything has been, I count it lucky that I was even able to get rid of those items.

There really is more I can get rid of, but other projects got in the way since this summer. I did drop a WDW Christmas sweatshirt and a WDW Christmas tshirt off in a clothing bin. I had pulled them out meaning to ebay them a few months ago. Never got to it & just got tired of looking at them reminding me I needed to do it, so donated them instead. Easier.

we got rid of dd's old barbie jeep Shes now 13-lol!
sold fridge and stove made about $205.00

Trying to get rid of
entertainment center
desk
lots of dd's clothes but havent had ttime to go through it all
toys. I'm off on winter break but not sure if anything will sale since its x-mas time. I just really want the big entertainment center and desk gone. Those two items would clear up a lot of room

we've made major progress in the house. The garage has been reclaimed (yet again!), I've gotten rid of the excess furniture, excess stuff and donated a ton of things.

The kids rooms are still my major issue. I can't seem to get those under control and the ton of little toys don't help the issue. We did pull another 2 bins worth of toys out of the boys room yesterday and trashed a few as well.

My next 2 projects this week are the linen closet and the tupperware cabinet. I'm taking the tupperware cabinet for my big kitchen appliances and moving the tupperware to another cabinet where they can't fall all over the place and escape to dark corners.

If you can't sell or give the entertainment center away, try giving it away to someone who wants to make their little kid a play kitchen. I've seen people turn them into play kitchens online with very little work. Just provide them this inspiration & let them go to town.

I bought my DD an Ikea Trofast storage frame with bins for her bedroom. It's customizable and perfect for all of those little toys. Plus, the slim design doesn't take up much room, all for about $90 or so. It's really made my life more organized!

I'm not really destashing, as trying to not bring more stuff into my home. I try to do donations multiple times a year; really makes a difference. I probably could give away an umbrella stroller or two, though, since someone just gave me a nice used stroller. I'll look around the house... less stuff means more organization for me! And I really like buying less in the first place.

I have deep cleaning each room over the past week (one room per day). I have 6 bags of clothes to be donated. I also have just pitched stuff so I don't have to look at it anymore.

Tonight my mom and I went through all of our Christmas decorations while putting them out and got rid of a ton. I will take the box up to Goodwill tomorrow.

Tomorrow I hope to get all our kitchen drawers cleaned out and better organized.

I just started in my craftroom. It the room I have the hardest with. Everyone throws everything in there. I would love to get rid of it all but having yardsales or selling on CL comes in handy for extra cash for lil home improvements around the house. I know its to close to x-mas to sell clothes on CL. Anyone sell after x-mas and how soon after jan, feb march?

This is our problem room too. Most of the time I walk in there, turn around, and walk back out.

Thats a huge issue here, too!

We have too, TOO many.

All the kids have their own boxes of ornaments, DH and I have boxes, and then all the other misc decorations. Many aren't used every year but in the back of my mind, I contemplate one or more of the kids wanting certain things (although i'm not sure what) when they move out. So I hold on to them, year after year. And yet wonder why :lmao::confused3

I've been craigslisting like mad we've made over $700 mostly on little things. It makes me feel so accomplished - something leaves the house and we get $$ for it - how cool is that? It makes decluttering so much fun!
