2011 Destashing Thread

He was a ferret actually. But he acted like a puppy. He was wherever I was and always wanted to be snuggled. I just can't believe he's gone.

Is anyone else still plugging away?

I am still plugging away. When I visited my mom I even had her drop off my 2nd wedding dress to the thrift shop. No reason to keep it and I hated the dress anyway! LOL (DH and I had 2 weddings...one JP and one church...I was 7mths pregnant at the church wedding so I wore a very altered dress I picked up on ebay)

I did keep my 'real' wedding dress which I love and we decided to hang onto the dried flowers from my wedding but I told her if she got a bug in her to clear that space that she could toss them. I didn't even know she still had them to be honest.

I have not kept up with this thread, but I have been destashing like crazy! We decided to put our house, which we have been living in for 16 years on the market, and things are happening really fast! I have been trashing like crazy, dropping off tons at the Salvation army, and giving, giving, giving away! Had thought we would have a yard sale, but that would take a whole day away from packing and going through stuff which I can't afford right now, and besides, there's more in tax deductions than I would make in a year sale anyway! I even gave away my wedding dress, since my dd didn't like it anyway and it was just taking up space!!

This is becoming addictive...can't wait to see what I can pack up tomorrow!

I have been slowly working away. I have lost more weight so I went through all of my clothes again. I now have two boxes full of clothes to take to the local consignment shop next weekend.

I have also been working in our spare bedroom sorting out things. It is kind of the catch all in our house so it will be a relief to clean it out completely.

Been busy sewing this weekend, but hoping to clean out some junk around here tomorrow. BUT, last weekend, I sorted through some stuff and ended up with 3 trash bags to get rid of.

Today I destashed 2 board games, a 3ring binder, a handsfree talkie thingie for a cell phone and yet another bag (luggage).

I bought space bags and got rid of another cardboard box of clothes.
To save more on space I bought some camera cards and going to scan pics onto them.

I spent this week in a frenzy of decluttering our bedroom. It had become the drop zone for everything that had no home. It's not perfect yet but it's nearly there! I have 3 more little bins to go through and then it's done!

It's much more peaceful and restful in there now....and dust free! LOL

I am retiring in March 2011 and going way up North to live with my daughter and her family. I am taking no furniture with me, so have started the job of decluttering and getting rid of alot of stuff. When I get back from my trip to Disney in September then I will go full force. I am going to visit in December and taking a load in the car. It's a 10-1/2 drive from where I live now. (I live in Southern Ontario) Been going through my closets, cupboards & drawers etc. How many purses and pairs of black shoes does one person need LOL. Most of the stuff is going to charity, and am selling a few things online.

I am still working away. My biggest accomplishement this week was to get my mom to finally gp through her late cousin's 200 cd collection that she left her. She kept about 20 and the rest we sold at half price books for $45. We still have her vinyls to go through but getting rid of the cd's got rid of 4 boxes from our spare bedroom and garage.

I was able to talk dh into having a garage sale this coming weekend. Just one day, but I am hoping to get rid of some stuff and make a couple $ for our upcoming trip. Had a sale last year and it was a flop, it rained.. Forecast for this weekend looks great, so I'm hopeful. Now, to get it all ready in just a few days.....

I'm in a 'forced' decluttering state right now. School superintendent decided that our entire floor needs to change classrooms....and I've been in mine for 21 years I have decided to do the same at home, though. Stuff is going in a few different piles: currently used resource books/supplies, give/sell, and GARBAGE! It's really hard to let some of the stuff go, but I know that I will be better for it, and, (GrannyEv ) when I do decide to retire, it will be that much easier for me!

I went in DDs room a couple of days ago and came out with 2 garbage bags full of toys - they all went to the SA the very next day
I also donated a bunch of book to the library, they have a big book sale every couple of months.

I am beginning my 3rd day of closet cleaning of toys. I cannot stand to do it all in 1 day and my son is more generous in eliminating toys if we spread it our. We spent 2 hours in the hall closet yesteday our main stash of toys. Just downstairs to do today. Packed some away and a large stash for our next yardsale. Hopefully, I can price them all next week.

Well, I'm destashing today, but in a very disorganized manner. I go to one room to grab something to put in the goodwill bag and then get distracted by something else that needs to go somewhere else....Sigh. Progress is progress, even if it's slow, I suppose.

For me, nothing today as it was a work day for me. Tomorrow, I hope to do some more though. Have I mentioned previously how much I those space bags?

Sure most of you are working today but this is my Saturday. Got lots of general housework done and have destashed to a friend some photo paper, to my son one of those pillows you use to sit up in bed that DH just HAD to have for years..., and some dog food to a friend that is left over from when we used to dog sit, a crib sheet that DS did not like for our DGS and scrapbook items to my mother.
Next, want to get rid of one of those rolling draws, now to get rid of some of the stuff in it so I can fit what I want to keep where I want to keep it, LOL

Went to school for a couple of hours to move more of my stuff to my new classroom. DD went with me. TWO bags of recycling, TWO bags of garbage, and TWO bins of teacher resources that DD took. Now, fingers, toes and eyes crossed that she gets a job-even onto the supply list, would be okay.

I did get a lot done and destashed despite my aimless roaming over the weekend. Seeing the empty space is so motivating to keep going!

I got distracted this past week so I haven't done much. Did I mention what happened when I dropped a load of toys off at OUAC? Well they were having an extra 70% off clearance so DH managed to spy an air hockey table that was $15 after discount. Wanna guess where the money from the dropped off toys went to?

Plus I got a huge bag of home depot& craftsman play tools for YDS for $5! Put those aside for Christmas. Plus they had just gotten in a big dollhouse bookcase that they told me was $20 so I decided to get that for YDD to put back for Christmas but it was actually marked $25. I held them to the $20 price though and I'm shocked they said ok!

So I got out just a few toys and managed to bring in some giant items! Not exactly the grand plan! (but I paid just $22 for all of it after they took off the money they owed me for the toys so still quite a bargain)

I need to work on the garage again as it has magically become a giant pit even though I haven't been in there at all!
