2011 Beach & Yacht Club FAQ

Can't say that I am happy about this! According to AllEars:

"Routine maintenance is underway at the Yacht and Beach Club's Transportation Dock. While this work is being completed, FriendShip boat transportation to Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios and neighboring resorts will not be available from the Yacht and Beach Club. The dock is set to reopen March 14. Bus transportation will be provided to Disney's Hollywood Studios from the Yacht and Beach Club bus stops. You can reach Epcot, Disney's BoardWalk Inn and Villas, and the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels by walking."

I guess I would have appreciated some advance notice!

boats are not down yet. those dates are wrong ... they put it back ... check Dee's front page for the new dates

We'll be split staying here and AKV 10/19 - 10/24. Then to Jambo for 10/24 - 10/29. Can you add me to the guest list? Thank you!

I'm so excited for you! If I recall correctly, the cab was approximately $15 plus tip and entirely worth every penny! (It may have been a little more to the CR for California Grill.) We had a 7:30am Ohana ADR and then spent the day in MK and took the bus back to BC. We'll still rely on Disney transportation when getting to/from the parks, but for resort to resort, I'm really glad I took the cab advice!

Thanks! I'm so excited too!!

I think a cab will be the way to go if I can talk the rest of the group into it.

Hello! First, I want to send my very best wishes to Teena for a smooth course over the next few months. I'm glad you are feeling more confident about the medical care/advice you are receiving. Keep up that positive attitude!

We're getting more and more excited about our first stay at the BC...just 2 nights March 18/19 before our Disney Dream cruise! Our twin boys (age 12) are happy because their favorite park is Epcot and they think it's great we'll be able to walk there. Easy transportation is key for us as one of our boys uses a wheelchair.

Between arrival time on Day 1 and the price of 1-2 day tickets, I think we'll only get 1 day at the parks, so Epcot it is. One of our sons is desperately disappointed about this...he'll really miss getting his Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Main St. Bakery chocolate cake fixes!

We're thinking of having dinner at Beaches & Cream on the first night. Any idea of better times to go to avoid the longest waits?

Thanks!

Staying at the BCV for the first time this July:cool1:. It will be our first stay at DVC members:yay:
Stayed at BC in 2003 and it has been far too long since I have been there...can't wait to get back!

For those of you concerned about the boats being out of service for dock refurbishment, My dear friend Bob Q. over at the Dis Photography boards has come up with a solution to all of your problems.

Tinkerbell and Sorcerer Mickey have been busy constructing this:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=39972990#post39972990

The folks at the Swan may have to deal with smaller rooms and missing walls but hey! Us folks at the Beach Club gotta get around too. Construction should be completed shortly after the docks have been refurbished.

~ Actually this is an example of some of the fantastic photography work that people like Bob are capable of with photoshop.... so no folks, a Monorail has not sprung out of the Swan hotel... but it's a thought!

The sunken treasure has been raised! Well, not really, but it makes an appearance on the Community page of the FAQ section.

I have uploaded 20 photos of the BC Marketplace in a thread in the resort photo thread. Pixarmom- I haven't credited you with the photos in that thread, wanted to check with you first. Let me know.

This is what is now posted on page 1 (Amenities and Services). Disneymomx7 was looking for this info to help her choose items for gifts for her kids.

Here is a link to 20 photos taken by Pixarmom in February 2011 showing some of the grocery items, sweets, treats, gifts and merchandise available in the Beach Club Marketplace

WOW great photos. If I do decide to stay an extra 4 days I'll probably pick up a few items to use for snacks or quick breakfasts. I was trying to decide whether to make a grocery run or pack a jar of PB and my favorite crackers. Now I think I'll just pick up a couple of things at BC it'd be worth a little more for the convienence. Thanks guys!

Looking to book the YC for June. We are usually a family of 4, me, dh and two teenage dd's. However my mom will be coming with us this time. I really want to make this trip special. My dad passed away this past November. My mom was his caregiver for several years and very rarely got to go on a trip. I was just wondering if 5 is going to seem too crowded. 1 bathroom with 4 girls seems scary. Can anyone who has done 5 in a room at the YC give me some feedback. I would greatly appreciate it.:)

Thank you, Pixarmom, for the Marketplace pics! (Sorry about your plumbing bad luck:sad1:) & Thanks to Dee for loading the new pics. The detailed pics are very helpful for planning (esp. for those of us who haven't been in a long time) Can you post all the prices now too?;):lmao:

We're a family of 5 and we stayed at the YC for two weeks and never felt too crowded. It really helps that YC/BC has a lot of drawer space and the shelves under the double sink.

Have a wonderful trip!

Sure! They look much better on the thread than they did on my camera screen! I was concerned that it wouldn't show detail, but I think you can get a sense for the items offered. Robyn, sorry I didn't get to the PM, but hopefully the photos in the link help! Still happy to answer any questions!

The Sunken Treasure story: After a bit of a wait at Hurricane Hanna's, I asked the bartender if he knew how to make one. He gave it some thought and said, "I remember!" I didn't expect it to be so green! At first it only had a lime in it, so I asked him to add the cherry because it added a bit of color to the photo. Despite my initial concern about drinking something so green, it was very yummy and I highly recommend it! :) I think it rivals the Grey Goose Lemon Slush in France.

I would say it would be about a 25 minute walk at a casual pace.

Does anyone know the approximate distance from either the BC or YC back entrance to HS entrance?

First, I love to walk - I lobby for the walk to DHS over the boat every time! Sometimes we walk but sometimes I'm outvoted and I reluctantly board the boat. I wish I had kept better track of the exact time, but I'd say the walk is 20 minutes or even less, although our pace is rarely casual. I think Dee is right about 25 minutes at a casual pace.

We are very excited about our first stay at BC in August :goodvibes Loved looking at all the photos, made me more excited to go.

I'm going with one of my adult daughters, and booked a Garden View room. I've made a couple of room requests, Full Balcony & 2 queen beds. I understand there are some rooms with 1 queen & pull out? Don't think daughter would enjoy sleeping on the pull out :rotfl:

I don't know the locations of GV rooms, but was wondering if I should request a certain location? Or just leave it with what I've requested?

:confused3 anyone?

Hi Sue! I can share some thoughts about location requests, but everyone has different preferences so it's hard to say what might work for your family. We usually don't make any requests but sometimes we request a full balcony. We requested bunk beds once at WL before they were a bookable category. But I've never requested a location at any Disney resort.

Of all the Disney resorts I've stayed at (BC, Poly, WL, and CSR multiple times each and once each at CBR and Sports) BC and WL seem the most compact to me. As a result, a location request at BC has not been important to us. Either we're 1) close to the lobby, BC Marketplace and the buses; 2) close to Epcot and the path around Crescent Lake (if we have a location close to Epcot and the weather is nice, we often take the path to SAB and the lobby.); or 3) in between. I think Teena timed the walk from the far end of BC to the lobby and it was something like 3.5 minutes.

Hope that helps a bit!

Sue--I'd leave it with what you have requested. I believe the make up of the rooms are 2 queen beds or a king bed or 2 queens and a daybed. Someone else may chime in here with a different configuration.
