2010 promo information is here! "Give a Day. Get a Disney Day."

Can you tell me what the voucher looks like? Does it have names/birthdates on it? (see my earlier post of why I'm asking.)

btw, I'm outside Seattle in the burbs. I'll be giving my day on Monday in Kent.

I'm in So Seattle- just a hop, skip and jump away from you!

The voucher has the participant's full name at the top. There isn't a birthdate, but it explicitly says that you must bring government-issued ID or a birth certificate (if under 18). There are 2 bar codes on the bottom. Hope that helps!

Have fun volunteering!

Thank you so much for the information, Rainy Day (hey, it's actually not raining right now!) It was very helpful.

I am so frustrated. After fighting with the website for probably a total of 5 hours on the 1st, I got us signed up for an activity Jan 23. Now I just got a call that my information did not get to the volunteer organization in time (partly my fault) and now the slots are full. Even though I have a confirmation email!!! Now there are no other opportunities that have openings that would work for us.

I need to complete this by Feb because I have a trip planned in March and one of the days is blocked out for our Deluxe APs. I was planning on using the free ticket for that day. Guess I'll just have to check the website every day to see if anything opens up.

I don't know if this applies to you, but thought I'd throw it out there just in case:

One-day, 1-theme park ticket must be used on the same day as redemption. Ticket
is not valid for admission on February 13 - 14, March 21, June 21 - 22, July 4,
November 21, and December 11 - 12, 2010.

In addition to that, this may get you quicker results:

From page one:

"Here's a helpful hint from LiseG: If you are have trouble finding enough or appropriate volunteering opportunities, look for the following in a blue box on the bottom of the page of search results. Follow the link, and you will be presented with the names and contact information of other groups in your area for which you can volunteer."

You might find your local YMCA on the list. You can also ask any local charity if they'll sign up. Good luck!

Okay, so for those of you who live in the Los Angeles, Burbank, Glendale, San Fernando valley area and wanted to participate in the Project Linus - That chapter (LA Chapter) is NOT participating in the Give a Day, Get a Disney Day promo. They ARE listed on the Disney website as a participant, but I emailed them and received this answer:

Hello,

You have contacted me because you are interested in the Disney Give a Day Program.
For whatever reason, my chapter has still not received the information from HON that I would need in order for you to get a ticket to Disney. And I fear that very shortly the tickets will be gone – when you register – a ticket is held for you and the response Nationwide has been overwhelming.

I would love for you still to make a blanket for Project Linus but if you want to get a ticket to Disneyland - PLEASE return to www.disneyparks.com – select the Give A Day Program – enter your Zip Code and choose another opportunity before the tickets are all gone.

You have to register, select, promise, and be verified by the opportunity you have chosen in order to qualify for this program.

Thank you for your interest in Project Linus and I hope you will consider helping us in the future. We will NOT be able to participate in this Disney Give a Day.

I have read you do not need to participate in a volunteer program in your area, it can be any area. So I guess it depends if any other chapters accept the blankets through the mail. The next closest one to the LA area is Bakersfield, I will be emailing them and seeing if they are participating.

The Good news is that once you volunteer, you will get your voucher within a few days. I was afraid that our wouldn't come in time because we had exactly 2 weeks between the volunteer service and our trip and our vouchers were available to print within 3 working days. Hang in there, hopefully you will be able to get something set up soon.

Way to go Disney for setting up such a great promotion! :hippie:

We did our volunteer activity this morning- sorting new clothes at a warehouse for distribution to other charities. It was actually a bit of work with bending and moving boxes around. We have APs so will use the voucher to get the fast passes instead.

It's a great program by Disney. Many of the charities in our area have had SO many people try to sign up that the openings fill up really quickly as soon as the opportunities are posted.

We did our volunteering this morning. We helped out with a food drive in South Seattle. We stood in front of Safeway with some Americorps volunteers and passed out flyers asking for baby supplies/food and canned food for a local food bank. It was chilly but fine. Approaching strangers is not easy for me, so I actually thought this would be a good way to sort of stretch my comfort zone. It ended up being a great experience and we helped collect more supplies and food than I thought we might. The next set of volunteers showed up right on time and we were on our way-it was very very well run and a great experience. We'll see how long it takes to get our vouchers.
We're trying to decide what to do with the voucher-we want to go to DLR for our 5th anniversary this summer, which will be July 17th (also the 55th anniversary of Disneyland, as it so happens-yes, we were married on the 50th!). I want to wear the 'bride' ears and get us our anniversary buttons and have an anniversary meal at the Blue Bayou. :lovestruc We're going to drive down for the first time and then come home along the CA coast. So, the decision is:
1)Because we're going in the summer should we get the FP to save us some time?
2)Originally we did this to get the free day-but we want to go for at least 2 days-should we make it 3 so we can use our vouchers to upgrade to a 3 day hopper which would give us a magic morning on Saturday, our anniversary? We LOVE magic mornings...we were only planning on doing 2 days though, not 3...decisions, decisions...I have a feeling there are many people who will be in our boat (just as Disney wants it!)-the idea of a 'free' day gets expensive quickly!

We did our volunteer activity today and I wanted to share with you guys how much fun it was. I picked our activity because it was a convenient location, the timing was right and it had spots for all four of us to volunteer. Little did I know that our activity (painting and gardening at James Denman Middle School in San Francisco) was a stop on the Disney "Give a Day, Get a Disney Day" tour. Heck, I didn't even know there was a tour! I guess I should have been suspicious when we had to sign a release waiver giving Disney the rights to our images and sound in all media, throughout the universe, in perpetuity but I just assumed this was part of the regular volunteer procedure.

At check-in, we were all given WWYC? sweatshirts and giftbags with mouse ears and chocolate dipped mickey shaped rice krispie treats. Sweet! When the four of us go to the parks in under two weeks, we will be taking a picture with our ears on. :)

The day started with an assembly in the auditorium for all the volunteers and guess who was there to see us?!? Mickey ::MickeyMo and Minnie ::MinnieMo and the Jammitors!:banana::banana: There was also a pretty cool set up on stage.

PR types from Disney and Hands on Bay Area greeted us and then we all got on stage to have our picture taken and some video of all of us saying "Give a Day, Get a Disney Day". Then it was off to weed for several hours. Spent alot of time pulling and things looked great when we were done. I hope they put some mulch down to stop them from growing back. Mickey and Minnie came around while we were working and we had our picture taken with Mickey.

(No comments on this photo...I had been working hard for several hours and let's just say it's not my best photo.)

After we finished our projects, we went back to the auditorium and were treated to a very cool performance by the Jammitors. These guys just rock. Best moment--one of the performers was rapping about volunteering and dropped this line: "Everybody knows volunteering is the bomb/ you can find more information at Disneyparks.com" Straight dope.

The day ended with the Disney PR team giving us our park tickets!!:cool1: These are the actual plastic cards; not a voucher!

All in all it was a great day. Volunteering with our friends was pretty special and taking them to the parks for the first time will be special too.

Ok, for those of you that made it through my super long post, do we have to upgrade our 1-day, 1-park tickets before going into the park or could we do sometime in the middle of day?

That sounds like a GREAT day of volunteering! How fun! I bet if everyone thought that Mickey and Minnie would show up, and that they would get treats & goodies and get their tickets right there on the spot, more people would be signing up left and right!!

Sherry, it was really fun! We met a nice woman who worked for Radio Disney and a manager at a Disney store and students and families from the middle school. I know you weren't that thrilled with the opportunities close to you. Have you been able to find anything?

Well, I was thrilled with the location of some of the opportunities when I first saw them, as they were right round the corner from me, literally. But the actual things that are needed in my area seem to be ongoing positions - almost like part-time jobs, but without pay - and very specific titles, like Case Manager or whatever. (This makes sense to me, as I know someone who does a lot of charity work with these organizations around the corner from me, and she said they pretty much do have regular people volunteering part-time for specific positions on an ongoing basis.) There was nothing like a day of painting or a day of gardening (which I think anyone could do for one day and just be shown what to do) or a day of this or that in my immediate area, but I will keep checking periodically because you never know what could pop up!!

It does seem like a bit much to ask folks to do an ongoing job. Fingers crossed that something comes along for you. :goodvibes

We just got our vouchers today. We would like to redeem them for 4-day park hopper tickets. Can this be done online somehow? Or do we have to do it at the gate? How much are tickets at the gate compared to online?

I tried to read how many hours you need to do it but i can find any thing.. we are working four hours on Monday:cheer2::cheer2: my youngest who is 11 is looking forward to it :cheer2::cheer2: since i also have to work that day..

Hawleys, what a great bonus surprise to your day of volunteering! Sounds like a wonderful day! (You never know what great things can happen when you take the time to help others, huh?) Thanks for sharing!
